General election 2024

Seeing as it’s anonymous… where is your vote going?

My views -

Conservative - Potentially had a tough ride with Covid & brexit aftermath to navigate. However, looking at the state of the NHS & the ever increasing price rises in almost everything… how could I vote them in again?

Labour - Almost feels like the only likely alternative. Change is as good as any? But Keir starmer does precisely 0 for me. I cannot get passionate about him.

Greens - Won our constituency a while ago, whilst I appreciate what they stand for the changes they made locally have had a negative impact on the average citizen IMO.

Reform - Nigel Farage is DIFFERENT, I don’t think that can be denied. Part of me thinks bold and controversial is what we need and the other thinks he is a brilliant campaigner and is just playing up to the people trying to act like ‘one of the working class’ to garner votes.

Where is your vote going?

@NCNC10000009 I really think you have to be a troll. Or a bot.

Is the monster raving looney party still in with a shot..? They'd get my vote!

Haha my thoughts exactly Grin

What's the 14 years significance?

Well if you don't even know who's in power and don't even care about informing yourself I expect you wouldn't have noticed that the government changed in 2010.

NoseNothing · 10/06/2024 21:25

Can I ask a genuine question? Those who don’t like Starmer. Why? What’s wrong with him? Is it just that he’s “boring”? Or is there more to it?

LizLooney · 10/06/2024 21:25

Every time Labour has left power unemployment has been higher than when they were elected. And they don't know what a woman is - neither do Lib Dems or Greens. Nigel Farage is a racist. I don't live in Scotland or Wales. So that's all the parties taken out apart from the Conservatives. I will hold my nose and go for them.

NoseNothing · 10/06/2024 21:26

With respect to @NCNC10000009 if you don’t know anything about politics I would suggest you don’t vote. It’s very rare that I say that, but I don’t think people should vote if they don’t understand what they’re voting for.

Largely I can conclude from extensive research (Mumsnet) the concensus is he's boring and a loony leftie.

I think the British public have been so bamboozled by bombastic incompetent liars, we cannot accept someone who is just honest and competent.

NCNC10000009 · 10/06/2024 21:28

@Justkeepswiimming I promise you that I am neither. I wasn't brought up discussing politics. I genuinely have v little interest. I admit that I'm ignorant to it. Regardless of which ever party gets in:
We will still have to pay £££££ tax
Nhs waits will always be too long and too late in some cases
Council house allocation will continue to be totally unfair
Tax on goods will always grow and be high
My council tax bill will continue to be stupidly high
I will still have to pay 40% on earnings over 50k

I can't believe how Nigel Farage has been able to pull the wool over so many people's eyes again. Amazing. Sad.

Or perhaps some people just have different political views to your own. I won’t be voting for Lib Dems or Greens, but don’t presume those that are have somehow been hoodwinked.

Charlie2121 · 10/06/2024 21:28

I live in one of the safest Conservative seats there is. There has never been anything other than a Conservative MP here.

That means my vote doesn’t really count for much and nobody around here really gives that much thought to their own vote although like most other locals I could never vote Labour under any circumstances.

That’s simply not true.

@1dayatatime spot on!

Wheresyourvote · 10/06/2024 21:29

@NoseNothing When I watched the debate between him and Rishi, he just seemed quite wishy washy & weak to me. Avoiding answering direct questions (don’t they all) & constantly going on about what conservatives had done wrong (I mean fair but even I got bored.)

If I met him in a cafe I’d probably think what a nice man but as pm? I wasn’t sure. However this thread has potentially shown me a different side to him, someone who you can passionately get behind is great, Keir might not have the charisma but maybe he does have the core values?

Nose hold, Lib Dem.

Justkeepswiimming · 10/06/2024 21:30

@NCNC10000009 I'm a civil servant also. I think from personal experience of 10 years working in this sector, it would be pretty unlikely you could possibly work in this area and have no idea whatsoever of who is in government.

yoshiblue · 10/06/2024 21:32

Labour - Education and NHS will do better under them. I quite like Keir and his boringness. I don't need personality, we need stability and someone sensible in charge. I strongly believe he has a moral compass unlike the utterly corrupted Tories.

That's just my opinion based on what I've seen and heard from Farage over the years. You may disagree, but I find him a master of lying and manipulation.

Wibibo · 10/06/2024 21:33

Probably the local independent, feeling politically homeless at the moment, think locally it will be between Lib Dem’s and snp or labour as usual and not happy to vote for any of them (or the conservatives)

ThePoshUns · 10/06/2024 21:34

Labour

NCNC10000009 · 10/06/2024 21:34

@Justkeepswiimming I've been a CS for 25 years. I genuinely had no idea that the Conservatories were in power, until I read it up thread. How would I know, just from my job/ being a CS ? I don't report direct to the PM !!

Rainbow1901 · 10/06/2024 21:35

@NCNC10000009 You could do no worse than to try this and see which party aligns closest with your personal views and feelings. Bear in mind that this is awaiting an update for 2024!!

Thanks @Wheresyourvote and I agree he didn’t appear to do well in that debate. I think he was too quiet - that’s probably his nature as a barrister - relying on evidence and the other party tripping themselves up (e.g. letting Sunak repeat his £2k lie over and over again and Starmer revealing the truth after the event, allowing him to call him a liar).

I don’t think he can be described as weak though. He is an incredibly successful and respected human rights lawyer and headed up public prosecutions. He is clearly fiercely intelligent, extremely capable and I think you’re spot on - what he lacks in charisma he makes up for in core values. I’m absolutely fine with that personally.
