Women voting for Labour?

bearsbritches · 04/06/2024 09:40

To wonder why women would be voting for Labour when they support trans rights over women's rights? I am concerned we are going to descend even further into all of this 'woke' madness and it is women who bear the brunt.

Starmer has back peddled on the self ID policy all of a sudden before the election, shock, but we can't trust that.

I certainly won't be voting for the Tories and can't bring myself to vote Labour for many reasons. Where does that leave disillusioned voters?

I would like to vote labour for all sorts of other positive reasons (although will be tactical voting LibDem instead in the hope that labour do get in). I don't agree with every single policy of any party, most people won't.

The moral superiority of this post is breathtaking.
You stick to your echo chamber - then wonder why Reform will get a toe hold in the election.
But least you don't have to (shudder) engage with one of those people.
How clever you must think you are.

Do I think people who vote for Reform are morally inferior? Well, yes, obviously. I make no apology for that.

But I certainly won't wonder why Reform will get some votes. I'm under no illusions about the morality of some of the electorate. Unfortunately there isn't much that I can do about that. Pretending that I respect their abhorrent views is not going to change their minds, so what's the point?

Edited

I haven't taken the time (yet) to probably get myself up to speed with the reform party yet.

what have they said that's bad? I'm being serious id like to know. I'll probably vote labour anyway I always do

Lol. Do you engage with benefit claimants ? Shudder.

IamaRevenant · 04/06/2024 15:46

I'm not voting Labour because I have a viable alternative (Carla Denyer is my local Green candidate). If I didn't I would be voting Labour even though they have disappointed me on several counts, as the alternative is just horrendous.

I believe that people should be able to identify as whatever they want as long as that does not take away the hard fought for rights of others. I have been called a TERF for my views although I personally identify as a feminist, simple as.

As well as being a woman and a feminist I have experience of poverty, homelessness, mental illness, disability, racism. My friendship circle includes single mothers, people with disabilities, people on benefits, people who grew up in care or were abused and pretty much any other form of disadvantage you can imagine.

Strongly as I feel about women's rights that is far from being the only or main issue that needs to be fixed in this country.

I think I will be voting for Reform after reading their policies.

Oh ffs. Wish I'd read all the OP's posts before bothering to try to engage. I'd assumed OP had some level of intelligence which was obviously a mistake. Grim.

Well, start with the fact that they're now led by Nigel Farage, who is well known for his bigoted views. Then you have their Deputy Leader who said that we should just leave migrants to drown in the channel etc.

You really don't have to scratch far beneath the surface or do much research at all to see who they are and what they stand for.

Housing illegal immigrants in hotels has cost 1.3bn a year! Not to mention the strain on other services.

If they are being housed they are not illegal immigrants.

God, the misinformation being spread by NF and his chums is infuriating.

Well NF wants to abolish the NHS and bring in an insurance based system.

He thinks Muslims want to take over the UK and blames them for all the UK's ills.

That is just for starters. He and Reform are, to borrow a phrase from Angela Rayner, scum.

They aren't illegal immigrants until their asylum claim has been processed and rejected. Until that moment, they're asylum seekers.

But I'm not surprised that this is a distinction you do not wish to make.

Because there are a multitude of other more important issues? A point you've agreed with! Why have you posted this if you know the answer? 🤔

Remotely · 04/06/2024 13:06

Well, you could spoil your ballot if you feel that strongly.

Personally, Labour have enough (note, not all) policies and history that align with my beliefs to get my vote.

Same. Tory police’s don’t benefit women in anyway and they are just paying lip service on this issue because they know it’s divisive. Whilst getting the balance with this issue right and protecting women’s rights in that way is important, we have some other massive issues that disproportionately affect women. Remember the mess we have now is after 14 years of the current corrupt bunch. Single issue voting is a fools game. The Tories just want to maintain power to keep
those with privilege in the manner to which they have become accustomed. They don’t actually give a shit about average women.

Yes. Or ‘those seeking sanctuary’ is another term but way too humanising for the racist bigot brigade.

Reform won't get a toe hold because of the trans rights vs women's rights issues. They will get a toe hold because ignorant racists will vote for them.

Personally, I don't want to engage with Reform voters who support NF. It is a waste of time.

Oh okay, that's all I need to know. If baffles me how some people don't see immigrants as people? How can you not care people are that desperate they're willing to die trying to find safety, heartless bastards.

and losing the NHS as flawed as it as would be the worst thing that could happen to this country. We'd be lost without it

Proudofitbabe · 04/06/2024 16:11

I find it incredible anyone would disregard Labour's nutty and yellow-bellied stance on this. It's not just women's rights, it's the broader issue that Starmer is prepared to repeat the lie with a straight face that some women have dicks. That says to me he's not the man to take charge of any of our other many issues - but I wouldn't vote Labour anyway, and agree the Tories have been appalling.'

Gemmahearts94 · 04/06/2024 16:17

I think it comes down what's a bigger issue.

labour- Big on trans rights

Tory- Big on favouring the wealthy and trying to draft our kids into war

Reform- Big on racist and privatising the NHS

ill choose the lesser of the evils.

we aren't all gonna agree but thats the point of a democracy

Unbelievably, Ben Habib made the comment about leaving migrants to drown the day after a small child had died in the Channel.

And yet he is still Deputy Leader of the party. I think that should tell anyone what they stand for really. Sickening.

How? Simple. We believe trans women are women and don't agree with you.
Of some people think there are far more pressing problems facing the country.
only 1% of people polled thought this was the most important issue.

😂

Earwiggoearwiggoearwiggo · 04/06/2024 13:26

Can I ask, OP, do you actually have any lived experience of trans rights impinging on your own? I don't myself. Seeing as I don't plan on going to prison any time soon, and if I end up in hospital I'd be more concerned about dying in a corridor than who else is on my ward, I genuinely can't foresee a situation where the issue would have any impact on me at all, actually.

Widening social divisions, crumbling health care, social services and schools, unaffordable child care , unaffordable food, unaffordable housing however do all affect me....

So you don not give a shit about any other women and girls but yourself then? Got it.

ActivePeony · 04/06/2024 16:50

bearsbritches · 04/06/2024 13:31

So because someone has a different view to you, that automatically makes them a government spy, because you couldn't possibly comprehend the idea of a different opinion unless it is from someone with skin in the game. That's called living in an echo chamber.

Yes OP - some of these people are just dickheads I'm afraid. Ignore the abuse.

@Gemmahearts94 I don’t think Labour are that big on ‘trans rights’ tbh. There’s a lot of trans people saying they’ve no one to vote for as essentially Labour and the Tories are singing from the same hymn sheet.
