General election 2024

Farage has announced that he'll be making an announcement...

Westfacing · 03/06/2024 12:16

... an 'emergency' announcement, no less.

Presumably to announce he's finally plucked up courage to put his money were his big mouth is and stand for Parliament, after bottling it!

8th time lucky?

stuckinapothole · 03/06/2024 16:42

Do the people of Clacton really want an MP who may well be out of the country for most of the Autumn aspiring to be BFFs with Trump and doing little constituency work?

TheShellBeach · 03/06/2024 16:31

@TabithaTimeTurn3r
Why on earth are you supporting Farage?

I agree with TabithaTimeTurn3er.

The question is why an earth does she have to explain her view..... Free speech

Notreat · 03/06/2024 16:44

TabithaTimeTurn3r · 03/06/2024 16:30

The point is people have had enough of the lying fuckers that are the conservatives and the moronic Labour twats who think a women can have a penis.

Good luck to him, he’s got my vote.

(I’ll expect the usual abuse from mumsnet, the free speech site where no one can actually speak freely, unless you’re a leftie, without being shouted down as a moron).

You can vote for whoever you want
But I honestly want to know why you would choose Farage?
He is a complete fraud who pretends to be a man of the people but is anything but.
He complains about a lack of democracy but Reform isn't a democratic party it is a private company and he is the majority share holder.
He is arrogant and self serving.
He has just boasted that he 'got rid of May' who whether you like her or not was the democratically elected prime minister.
He would be a terrible MP and I pity any of his constituents who need help.

Westfacing · 03/06/2024 16:45

Maybe it's not a bad thing that he's now an official candidate - I don't know what the rules are but surely he now can't be given unlimited air time, as it would be unfair to the other candidates in the constituency.

And there are rules about coverage of the party leaders.

But the media is obsessed with him so I expect he get more than his fair share of publicity.

Interesting times

Standing for Clacton! The arsehole of the UK. How apt.
And taking over as head of Reform.

Lovely.

Many of my best childhood memories are with my grandmother in Clacton. But the frothing of the intellectually challenged when it comes to politics does love a good sneer at entire populations they see as lesser.

I don't agree with Reform policies, or much with Nigel Farage.

But I DO remember exactly where this sneering bollocks got us last time. Farage has never been elected as an MP, but just look at the political whirlwind he creates. Brexit would not have happened without him.

Just dismissing and denigrating people you don't agree with got us Brexit. And it could get us worse next time.

I'm terrified by this and would love to see people calmly discussing things with those that don't agree with them, like actual grown ups.

A lot of the rhetoric on thsi thread is just as damaging and divisive as anything Farage has said.

Never underestimate the popularity or the longevity of Farage.

Ffs he crawled out of plane near me with barely a scratch. He got Brexit done and has been arousing the interests of hard right voters for years.

If only I was first responder to that plane...

If only I was first responder to that plane...

I don't like Diana Abbots politics either.

I wonder how a casual death wish/threat would go down if I made one about her?

BellyPork · 03/06/2024 16:48

Watching the press conference right now. Regardless of whether you agree with his politics, the man undoubtedly has a shedload more charisma than the other gutless wonders on offer.

People have made valid political points but no one has actually explained why they would vote for Farage. What is it about him and Reform's policies that is attractive to people?

It is both totally predictable and deserves. He’s been gunning for what is left of the Conservatives for over a year. They will regret indulging populism. Farage does that better than they do. Why vote for diet Reform (Conservative) when you can have the real thing?

I don’t like him but he is a political operator. And he will bring with him a lot of far nastier people; people who reckon he’s a bit soft on immigration.

There will be a lot of people who say Reform is diverse and welcomes anyone but it will be old and white in the main. In a way it is the more honest form of Brexit support.

I reported that as I was disgusted to, regardless of whether you agree with someone's views or not. Interesting to see mnhq have left if up so far :(

Charlie2121 · 03/06/2024 16:55

I like him.

After the GE he’ll look to merge with the Conservatives and throw his hat into the ring to become leader of the opposition.

The fun would really start then as he’d annihilate the likes of Starmer and Rayner at PMQ’s.

A right leaning Conservative Party with him at the helm would be hard to beat at the next GE in 5 years time after 5 years in opposition pointing out the failings of Labour.

People will soon see Labour for what they are and will crave an alternative in similar fashion to how many want a change now.

Farage for PM? Stranger things have happened. There’s certainly a route for him to achieve it now.

billysboy · 03/06/2024 16:56

Mr Farage is a great orator whether you agree with what he says is a different matter

TheSandHurtsMyFeelings · 03/06/2024 16:57

Zip-faced cunts gonna grift, I guess.

Lalog · 03/06/2024 16:57

TabithaTimeTurn3r · 03/06/2024 16:33

Any chance of an intellectual, political conversation or are you not capable?

Sure I could talk about how his brand of populism follows the model of establishing a false everyman figurehead in a top down system of leadership whose sense of group solidarity is largely achieved through simplistic scapegoating slogans disseminated via various media, thus differing from the grass roots liberation movement it purports to be in several important aspects not least intent, scope and analysis, rendering the resultant disruption unproductive, socially divisive and with little to no real political and economic benefit.

But, calling him a cunt works just as well.

noblegiraffe · 03/06/2024 16:58

He has just increased the chances of Ed Davey being leader of the opposition.

CaveMum · 03/06/2024 16:58

Is it time for me to roll out my favourite Farage Fact again?

Nigel Farage is younger than Brad Pitt (by about 4 months)

Igotjelly · 03/06/2024 16:59

What do we think Farage will mean for split ting the Labour vote?

stuckinapothole · 03/06/2024 17:00

Farage for PM? Stranger things have happened

Too much like hard work

stuckdownahole · 03/06/2024 17:00

Farage moved the Overton window. Starmer said only yesterday that net migration would need to come down, although he refused to set a target. The Conservatives have been promising lower net migration figures for the past decade. They haven't delivered.

Fifteen years ago, when Labour had been in power for over a decade during which time net migration per annum had quadrupled, Farage was the only "mainstream" politician (i.e. not the BNP) calling for those numbers to be reduced - and yet it was an issue in the minds of voters. Remember Gordon Brown being challenged on the issue when canvassing by a pensioner who he later described as a "bigoted woman"?

I don't agree with Farage but dismissing him doesn't help either. The fact is that the flagship policy he has been promoting for the past two decades has now been adopted by both major parties.

A great orator? 😂

He's a pub bore at best. In it for the money, gives not one single fuck about any of the poor saps who support his company 'party'.

As a resident of East Thanet, I hope the good people of Clacton give him the kicking I'm now being denied.

I'm going to save this post for use the next time someone on here posts "Right wing voters are more accepting of other views and don't resort to name calling"

bombastix · 03/06/2024 17:04

He is not a good orator. He is a bit snippy when challenged and I think that this is his Achilles heel. Not an accountable guy in other words.

But he will hurt the Conservatives. Labour will have done enough to neutralise it by shifting to the centre. They thought about this (and it was coming from space).
