General election 2024

Will Labour pay Jnr doctors the ridculous 35% they are demanding?

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 29/05/2024 12:24

This is unaffordable and that is a fact
So what promises are the Labour lot making, that is if they have the time to discuss this other than what 's happening to Dainae Abbott

If us the taxpayers could afford the 35%, then I'd be happy to sanction the rise but we can't afford that

FIVE days of strike - this will have another massive impact on those waiting for appointments and those having them cancelled. The doctors knew what the pay and conditions were when they decided to take the job and the strikes should be outlawed. The police can't strike, the armed forces can't strike, so why are doctors allowed to strike??

But £22billion on a test & trace app to Tory party mates, which didn't work is fine though right?

Have a day off!!

"go to the table" and offer them what??

I could got to the "table," and listen to them and give them my support and say sorry, we are sorry, your demands are unreasonable - you get my drift - IE ANYONE can "go to the table" and that is a fact

There comes a point that going to "the table" is a waste of the governments time.

The reason the Tires are not giving them the 35% they are demanding and many votes is the fact the are putting England first for a change and their taxpayers. and not unrealsitic pay demands

IE ANYONE can "go to the table" and that is a fact

Well not anyone. You couldn't for example

I have seen several of your posts on a similar subject of "will Labour do x".

My question to you (based on the fact that the answer to all of your questions is "probably not in the way you hope they will, but they will probably be better than the current shower who couldn't really do worse for the country") is:-

What are you hoping to achieve with all your posts please?

I haven't worked out whether you are a hopeful Labour voter trying to work out whether they have a plan (no evidence of one so far), or whether you are trying to dissuade people from voting for them somehow (Unlikely without any specific point)?

I don't mean to sound provocative, I am just bemused.

I'm hoping that at least some Lab die-hards open their eyes and not that there is very little difference when it comes to begging for votes - a lot of what they offer and promised is total BS and they know it

FYI - and I've been open and honest as always, I was a life long Tory voter - not now as Truss f/d up millions with the hype inflation and interest rates duein her 4 weeks at number 10 - Sunak made enegency, breaking new seeches re Rawanda when all along he was chatting total shit

Look at Labour and the NHS in Wales

This socialist leader of Englands labour party, socialist, he needed to look up the definition. The way they have and are treating Dainae Abbott is disgusting. FYI, I have no time for her. However, it just shows how labour is very split and fighting even before the elections are over

Both are a pile of shit, chat shit, most of them from all sides are in it for themselves or will be soon after becoming a MP - Lab and Tories cant be trusted and the Libs are a running joke - they load of them have manage to get away with it as people lacked info - info is to hand now

Even the media is not asking Starmer what and when did he know the probe in to Abbott was completed - If I was in starmers shoes and the press was saying stuff like they have re Starmer and Abbott, I'd come out and put them straight ASAP

What I am hoping to gain you ask - save people from being made into fools again vy false promises, promises they have no intention of keeping or are just not feasible

So what will labour do re jnr docs?? If they get 20/25/35% - I bet you that will open the flood gates and the paye lot like me and millions of others with their own property, savings, and private pensions poss a BTL will be shafted even harder without lubrication, if that makes sense.

We could afford it if we didn't pay for other useless shit like rainbow badges and diversity and inclusion officers, if we stopped sending aid to corrupt countries, if we didn't waste billions on a stupid train line that was poorly thought through in the first place, if it wasn't given as side handouts to mates and old school friends.

Tories seem to find money for things when it suits them.
£15 an hour is a disgrace.

Stop taking BS
You need to take into account the allowances, the daily/regualr overtimes, etc - and its well above 15 quid, bud

I'm challenging you to post a Jnr docs payslip at 15 quid an hour for their basic, 35 hours, you wont be able to and we all know why

The bottoms line - Are the junior doctor's fools - not they are not!! Were they aware of the pay rates before they decided to become doctors -YES THEY WERE == = FACT = FACT and FACT again

What allowances? Overtime is unpaid. You know nothing about doctors’ pay.

Howcoldmytoes · 29/05/2024 18:47

Most doctors are deeply in debt when they qualify. Over £100k quite frequently.

the government should pay their tuition, then lock them into the NHS for a minimum of 6 years. Much like a military apprenticeship.

if they weren’t so in debt, they wouldn’t be disappearing off to NZ / Aus etc, desperate to pay back their debts.

Places at medical school are highly contested. These kids are the ones getting top grades, yet they still have a desire to do something worthwhile. Continue paying them so little and they’ll think again and go for the money, then where will we be?

Aria999 · 29/05/2024 18:54

Perhaps the money the tories wasted on probes into Rayner, could have a paid for a few Doc's pay increases?

So where does that leave you? I sympathise as I have voted Conservative predominantly over my lifetime, however I will never vote for them again because of Brexshit. The shenanigans since then have only reaffirmed my opinion. I couldn't vote Corbyn, he was unelectable.

Realistically, one should vote for the candidate who they believe will serve their constituency best. I have spoilt my paper for the last few elections in protest, however this time it is too important. Realistically. The choice is between Labour or Conservative, and in my area it will be hard to unseat the Conservative candidate. Annoyingly, I've met him and he is quite a capable, likeable chap. Shame he is on the wrong team.

Quoting Labour and the NHS in Wales is a non argument. As someone pointed out above, you have to look at what they inherited. It undermines your credibility to not look at the facts.

Ditto junior doctors. The fact that they are called "junior" is misleading as they are called that right up to consultant. I would be mighty pissed off if I'd spent years studying, accruing debt and then earning less to save people's lives than I'd earn stacking shelves in Tesco. Not that stacking shelves isn't honest work, it is, but it certainly isn't a medically trained doctor.

So, back to my point about the administration of the available funds. The current shit show haven't done well, so about time for a change I feel.

The fact that they are all stepping down, and that Sunak has called an election now as he wants to go and live in America tells you everything you need to know about what they think their chances are.

Everyone thinks their passion or career is the most important and worthy of increased spending, whether that’s education/justice/health care/defence/benefits.

We can’t do everything for everyone, we are no longer v wealthy

Edited

Ok let them go.

They have possibly the most responsible job in the world.

Why wouldn’t we pay our doctors a high wage? They save lives after all.

We’d be shafted without them. Why should they be paid shit wages?

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 29/05/2024 19:47

This is a long thread but I am correct in assuming that no one but no one has answered the factual question of:

When doctors decide to go to uni and more importantly pass their exams to become a doctor - Are They Not Aware What the Pay Rates Are???

Many years ago I wanted a job where I could drive my sports car to, park in or close to the workplace, able to work in the office and go out for visits and be back home by 4/5pm and not work weekends and a wage that we acceptable to me and a relatively easy job as far as jobs go. I therefore made an imofrmed decision to work for a council and I got what I had wanted - it is really as easy as that - I never cried re my pay, even when this stupid gov froze our pay for years and took away the car allowance elements

Therefore, if the doctors are unhappy with their pay - get another job

OP posts:
DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 29/05/2024 19:49

BTW - this 5 day strike, it is disgusting.

Look at it like this, if the Tories wanted millions of more votes, all they have to do is give the docs 35% and open the flood gates for pay claims an hyper inflation soon after - Is this what Labours promising - pay the doctors what they want???

OP posts:
MoominGang · 29/05/2024 19:54

So you are happy to pay car mechanic or plumber over £30 an hour. Yet someone who can potentially save your life gets half of this?
