Don't be fooled by the "indpended" enquiry as the leader has the final say

Why has a decision not been given to Ms Abbott??

Worked out who you are voting for yet 😂

MagnetCarHair · 28/05/2024 14:01

Abbott is a liability while Labour tries to keep the moderate left to the front and centre, and the anti-semites and Corbyn crowd in the hazy background.

EffieeBriest · 28/05/2024 14:06

Yup and tories keep the extreme right at the front and then the mish mash of Nat Cons, neo liberal US obsessives, ERG remnants, sex pests, and who ever else hiding in the background.

LlynTegid · 28/05/2024 14:11

I thought Diane Abbott was planning not to seek re-election. Not that it justifies the delay.

I'm a no fan of Ms Abbott as its often a case of foot in mouth. However, like her or not, she is a very well-known, longstanding MP and still respected by the majority in her constituency and many beyond

Mr Kier Stammer when asked a couple of weeks ago said something like - see below from a independent newspaper.

I guess Mr Starmer is lying low

------
Sir Keir Starmer has been plunged into a fresh row over Diane Abbott’s suspension after it emerged the investigation into her was completed five months ago.
The Labour leader has repeatedly refused to say whether Ms Abbott, the longest-serving Black MP, will be able to stand for the party in the 4 July general election.

Diane Abbott fury as Starmer suggests her suspension is nothing to do with him

More than a year after Ms Abbott was suspended, Labour will decide whether she can be reinstated in time for the 4 July general election

I don’t understand your concern tbh. Is it genuine or just shit stirring ?

Undecided but definitely not Labour, nor Tories and FYI, up until the previous voting, I and my family were ardent Tory voters

Why is Starmer not responding to press reports re Ms Abbott??

Good question OP, I thought that this morning when I read this. I have heard lots of senior Labour party members (including Starmer) being asked when will she get her decision and when she will get the whip back, they all say "we can't interfere in an independent investigation, it's still ongoing, can't possibly comment". Have they been lying about this for months??!

Bumblebeeinatree · 28/05/2024 14:41

They don't want the outrage from some if they say she can't stand, but don't want the backlash if they say she can stand. So say nothing.

SofaThrow · 28/05/2024 14:50

Have they been lying about this for months??!

It certainly looks that way.

Christ that's bloody unacceptable!! Starmer needs calling out on this!

EffieeBriest · 28/05/2024 15:05

You’ve got me @DistinguishedSocialCommentator I’ll vote Tory because of the injustice Diane has suffered. Plus I’ll tell all my friends about it. Satisfied 😂

SofaThrow · 28/05/2024 15:12

Well, he has predictably enough pissed off Momentum...this could cost him votes.

EffieeBriest · 28/05/2024 15:13

@SofaThrow surely a good thing ? Why are you bothered that he’s pissed off a few far lefties ?

Yes absolutely. Was just pointing out the very predictable Momentum comments. Starmer is not exactly looking good here though.

MagnetCarHair · 28/05/2024 15:28

I don't think I could be described as a leftie by any modern runaway definition but it's not very democratic or fair to her constituents to conclude an investigation in December and keep everything under wraps.

Looks like they may have judging by whats been printed but Starmer can put an end to this speculation right now by coming out and taking to the media

Importantly, this "independent probe"it is not if I am to believe a radio interview this morning around 10am onwards Can anyone verify this ie the so-called independent report will make a recommendation but the final say lies with the Whip, ultimately the leader of the Labour party - is this correct??

Just read this - see below

Where is Starmer today???

Why is he keeping very quiet???

Labour is the political party of integrity etc, top down.

See quote and link below re member pledge, code of conduct, update😂

" treating people with respect is at the core of who we are." (What does Diane Abbott have to say on this??)

"These values are embodied in the Nolan Principles of public life. Selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership."😂😂

Statement on new Member's Pledge – The Labour Party

The values of honesty, decency and high standards in public life are the cornerstone of the Labour Party we are creating. These values are embodied in the Nolan Principles of public life. Selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness,...

Mr Starmer on Sky new - live at some event and has asked the audience to ask him questions - lets hope there is one on this subject

He’s not Mr Starmer.

BIWI · 28/05/2024 16:44

They will be announcing the candidates soon - I think next week? - so we'll find out then.

SofaThrow · 28/05/2024 17:12

BIossomtoes · 28/05/2024 16:37

No. He's a Sir. 😄

And he's in hiding whilst he backtracks on the VAT on private schools plan.

EffieeBriest · 28/05/2024 17:36

Let’s see if he has Labour activists in the audience not asking any tricky questions eh @SofaThrow or he might even hide in a fridge 😂

duc748 · 28/05/2024 18:56

As far as Diane Abbott is concerned, it's another classic case of 'the process is the punishment'.
