Labour leadering ducking and diving re this massive question - when did Mr Starmer know the probe had finished??

Why has Abbotts whip been reinstated but told not be lab MP

From the horse's mouth - I also believe I heard a new castor on Sky saying they had been told that ie she cant stand as lab MP - but knowing how confused, worried lost labour leader is now - anything can happen IMO

Diane Abbott says she will stand in Hackney 'by any means possible'

The Labour MP at the centre of a row over her future in the party claims "the national party" was "insisting" she be banned from running - despite Sir Keir Starmer denying a decision had been made.

the whip has but the stories is and I believe according to media reports that tMs Abbott has confirmed this, she has not told if she can stand as a labour MP

Where is Starmer - why is he not answering questions raised re when the probe was completed and when he first knew of this

Abboot, not my type of ppoliticna but she has a massive left wing following and a large following from any unions and black and ethnic minorites as she was the first black woman MP - she does get for in mouth but she has apologised and what the Labour lot are doing to her is not nice.

The left wing and the unions are up in arms and have demanded answers from Mr Starmer but its all called on deaf ears I guess

If you are voting Labour - lets hope they don't do this to you after the GE, ie ignore you and do as they want

Does Abbot think 'transwomen' are women?

And whatever happened, TFG it did as Abbott shouldn't be anywhere near politics, ever.

FiveFoxes · 29/05/2024 22:25

I just saw the I'm with Diane rally on the news. Diane Abbott didn't seem very well. She was very shaky holding the microphone Sad.

I wonder if the Labour party know she's ill and hoped this would resolve things, hence putting off an announcement and now not necessarily wanting her to stand.

All speculation though. They were saying earlier that she didn't want to stand but wanted to be allowed to so she could say no. It's all a very sad row.

Who cares? Does this have to be on every thread? It’s beyond tedious.

She has not seemed well for a long while imo.

Well, Diane Abbot is really tedious, so I think it's fair enough to add to the tedium.

"new castor on Sky", "Abboot, not my type of ppoliticna"?

Gooseysgirl · 30/05/2024 03:55

I don't think she has seemed well for quite some time. I was staggered at the comment she made last year and thought it was right the whip was removed. Anyone who's had anti-racism training (or a member of the Irish/Travelling/Jewish communities) knows full well what she said was wrong and I was baffled that she said it. It really made me wonder (not for the first time) if she is fully well mentally.

LumiB · 30/05/2024 08:14

Well I always judge by actions and this I'd a clear sign of things to come. Does not fill me with any confidence might look at going towards a completely different party altogether maybe it's time we get someone completely fresh in instead of labour or tory.

Abbott is a liability while Labour tries to keep the moderate left to the front and centre, and the anti-semites and Corbyn crowd in the hazy background.

This. I would be more likely to vote Labour if they moved away from the militant politics of Abbot/Corbyn etc

MagnetCarHair · 30/05/2024 08:35

Yes, I see they have jettisoned to odious Russell-Moyle to the margins with a well-timed suspension.

If they had done this when he was doing his loudest misogynist in Parliament act then I'd have some faith it represented a genuine shift from student politics towards sanity, rather than a refinement of optics.

To remind MN's - I am no fan of DA as her politics are too far left wing and IMO, and at times what she says, she needs to think before opening her mouth

Whether Labour knows" or not, if they don't know, I would be staggered as they have been dancing around hoping she would just go away quietly

What Labour is doing here is bullying the MP IMO, Why was the probe completed last year and IMO it was the media reports the other day that people knew the probe had been completed but did nothing

IMO, Labour fears the left in her party and are trying to get rid of them

However, DA has a massive following from union leaders, her voters and possibly millions of others

In this case, the no policies Mr Stamer has shot himself in the foot by not directly and decisively dealing with the confusion created by Labour re DA

Seems to me Starmer see this (and the LR-M saga) as a pre-election opportunity to do a Kinnock v Militant (which it isn't, of course). To show the GBP that he's "not afraid to take the tough positions". MNers may well see it differently.

CaveMum · 30/05/2024 13:59

Angela Rayner has said she sees no reason why DA can’t stand as a Labour MP.

Labour needs to be very careful right now, this is fast turning into a situation that will result in a split and in-fighting on a very public stage. That will be an absolute gift to the Tories and you can bet they will exploit it (as indeed Labour would if the roles were reversed).

MagnetCarHair · 30/05/2024 13:59

Raynor backs Diane Abbott. And is not happy about anonymous briefings apparently. Keir is currently retrieving the knife from his back.

But what are those 'militant' policies you object to? Can't be Brexit, that's done now, and even the keenest Labour Remainers seem to relaxed about it, or so they say. Nationalisation of the water industry?
