That was the deal the party did I believe. She’s an iconic figure for the black community. Might not like her politics but she’s been a trailblazer particularly for black women and was a decent local MP which is essentially what it’s all about. She’s been subject to some horrendous racist attacks, could even call it bullying by the press and those on SM.

I don't agree with everything DA stands for but the treatment from the labour party is vile. She immediately apologised for the article, she did the course she was asked to do. She has been such a long standing MP. and meanwhile, labour welcomes Natalie Elphicke with open arms.

I agree. What she wrote was unforgivable but Starmer has clearly lied about this (and Dodds) and is not being quizzed over it - why not?

It's all a bit odd. On Twitter she says she's, 'dismayed that numerous reports state that I have been barred as a candidate.' That's a bit different to having definitely been banned from standing. I wonder if she actually has been banned or not.

BBC Breaking News says she hasn't been banned. The list of candidates hasn't been agreed yet.

Re Starmer knowing - ATM, we are not sure if he did know or not but he needs to come out and tell us, if not those that may be wanting to vote for him, that the press got it wrong. Why he is ducking this question as are his side-kicks I'm not sure

If I was the leader of any political party and one of my MP's were out of order - depending on what was said and how they reacted when challenged and was this a first mistake or not - I be clear if I was going to boot them out or not

As I said, I am no fan of Ms Abbott, but a backbone from labour is missing as they are failing to respond to what many of their members want to know. So this is how they treat them and many will still vote labour, come what may

Why this obsession with “the back door”? Nobody’s slipping anywhere through the back door. The next government will, like every other, be democratically elected in a transparent process. We’ve had two Tory governments in the last 14 years that failed to get enough seats for a majority, one formed a (disastrous) coalition, the other relied on an alliance with a minority party. Even those didn’t involve any back doors.

I wouldn't assume the current story is true either - its simply someone reporting that Starmer says she hasn't been explicitly banned and he can be quite economical with his words.

Diane on the other hand has been hearing that she is and the NEC have been pushing people out of safe seats to put their own lacklustre favourites into safe seats without going through a selection process (this has been covered for some time now by Crick who is not party aligned). Labour doesn't need to issue a "ban" to prevent her standing. If she isn't "selected" I hope she stands as an independent and hammers the NEC clone.

I suspect they will hastily find a new years honours peerage for her to go quietly.

A lot of interest in Labour re. Abbott, yet the Tories did not return the huge donations (£10 million last year) to their donor who made racist and sexist comments about her.
