Do you know people who will emigrate if labour win?

1000 replies

groyard · 24/05/2024 12:24

This is making me all very stressed. Trying not to freak myself out over future socio-economic ramifications for the UK if there is a wider trend of “brain drain”.

Brother and BIL have both said that if Labour win they will be emigrating with their wives and children.

I’ve heard similar sentiment from others but assume (hope) this is hyperbole.

Just to say, none of the people mentioned are wealthy but just about comfortable. Both highly skilled and in demand internationally.

Some of the scaremongering - I should say 'attempts' at scare mongering are like deja vu. Totally baseless and they sound increasingly desperate. How anyone could still think that another 5 years of Tory rule is a good idea is mind boggling.

Well they will secure fiscal competence and our National security and at least have an immigration plan so we can get a grip on the housing crisis. This country may never recover from a Labour shit show.

This is normal rumours when anything changes, people will emigrate but also people will return home.. Brexit was going to see everyone emigrate, some did, many didn't. Things change, better or worse depends on each individual circumstance, always winners and losers in any change of government

And many that rushed over to the EU before the cut off date have come home again, disillusioned and bedraggled, having lost a fortune on renovating a derelict farmhouse in a squillion acres in an area of France where even the French don't want to live. And the ones who are still plugging away at it are now feeling a bit foolish for complaining so loudly about the wickedness of the Tories, given that they will soon have Marine Le Pen as president.

It’s not just the brain drain but the whole country becoming third world that’s my issue. We have no idea how lucky we are, the lefties seem to have a sense of entitlement that this will continue forever without considering who is paying for it….

Unhinged.

Maybe you should step away from the internet for a bit. Go out and get some fresh air.

Ginkypig · 24/05/2024 17:03

No I haven’t.

iv heard multiple people say this regarding several different GE’s over the years going back as far as my school days (so a long time 😩) but no one who has ever actually gone through with it. No matter if the decision went the way they wanted or not.

it was the same during the brexit vote too.

I suppose some people do mean it but I’ve never met them.

That would suit you but no people need to know the truth.

Civil war?!
How can they have proved their fiscal incompetence when they have not been in power for over a decade?
Bonkers.

I think that some people are still going on about a Labour government from nearly 50 years ago.

whistleblower99 · 24/05/2024 17:04

Yes but then they I mix with high earners who are highly taxed. They are all highly skilled, talented and educated in global, modern day careers in engineering in tech. Contrary to popular belief on MN - many worked hard for it and weren’t born into privilege. State schools. A wide variety of backgrounds like military and similar. Many fed up of paying huge amounts in to be abused as rich and getting nothing back. On top of the fact salaries are shit.

Bululu · 24/05/2024 17:05

@DirectionToPerfection · unhinged are you Sadiq Khan? We all know someone who got attacked by criminals lately so denial much.

cestlavielife · 24/05/2024 17:05

Dies that "threat" influence your voting ?

Mechanicalengineer · 24/05/2024 17:05

I work in engineering and I’ve also heard similar from colleagues.

I don’t really know why though. It all seems a bit dramatic to me

Polishedshoesalways · 24/05/2024 16:35

No, Labour have already said there isn’t the money to increase funding or did you miss that?

I guess that must be in part due to all the millions spent on PPE contracts for their mates. Fact is services are on their knees already, and it’s due to the government who’ve been in charge for the past 14 years.

Tryingtobewellbalanced · 24/05/2024 17:06

The iceland boss was on TV not so long ago saying he was going to run as a Tory MP.

I like him, so glad he's had his head shook and done a u turn.

50 years ago they were much better. The current Labour shower are not remotely capable, competent or polished. No policies. No values. No plan.

Araminta1003 · 24/05/2024 17:06

Yes I know a lot of people leaving - but it started just after Brexit and is just constant. I am in London. Not sure it has anything to do with who wins the Election though, there is just a better quality of life out there for young professionals and families in other countries now and yes, definitely a few to Dubai again and this year a lot to the US and Singapore. Still lots of European professionals going home for Education, seems to be Uni now for their kids. I know a lot of international families though. A lot came in the 90s and pre Brexit and married a Brit type thing.

Wasityoubecayse · 24/05/2024 17:06

The statistics have been proven repeatedly there is the highest level of outflows in living memory. Not among the easily replaced. You cannot hire some skill sets easily. There are less people than the last biggest generation. This is simple economics. And no actually, countries actively recruiting English professionals do not offer roles to the stupid. Like come on man why do you need that to be true.

EasternStandard · 24/05/2024 17:06

groyard · 24/05/2024 14:30

How rude. I have absolutely no affiliations with the Tory party.

It’s standard on any post not fully Labour approved on mn atm

SJ1991x · 24/05/2024 17:06

horseyhorsey17 · 24/05/2024 16:55

Actually no, business is well aware that the next government will be a Labour one, and they've been lobbying/prepared themselves accordingly.,

What ‘business’? I have a relation who works in stock market trading in London (huge multinational company) and another who owns a large business - neither are ‘well aware’ that Labour will be successful - did they miss the memo or are their business not business enough?

frankentall · 24/05/2024 17:06

PJHarvey · 24/05/2024 16:58

Then you won't have any problem showing us evidence for each of those points, will you?

It's got to be a reliable source now, not some opinion piece in the Torygraph.

Even the Torygraph wouldn't publish that load of old bollocks

Well they will secure fiscal competence and our National security and at least have an immigration plan so we can get a grip on the housing crisis. This country may never recover from a Labour shit show.

It isn't going to recover from the current, entirely Tory-driven shitshow.

The best we can hope for is future governments ameliorate the damage somewhat, and manage the continual slow decline of the UK as best they can.

Given the only thing the Tories have shown any ability to manage, is to shovel public cash into their pals pockets while watching the UK burn around their ears, it's a laughable nonsense to suggest this will somehow be accelerated by voting Labour.

DirectionToPerfection · 24/05/2024 17:08

Edited

Yes, it is unhinged to claim the UK is about to become a third world country.

Nothing about crime in that post so I'm not sure why you're bringing it up. It's hardly something the Tories have a strong record on though, is it?

Quirkyme · 24/05/2024 17:08

Sounds like men throwing their toys out the pram tbh

Polishedshoesalways · 24/05/2024 17:08

I hate to say it but this is most definitely one of those times when one has to say you make your Labour bed, you lie in it. This idea that it’s all going to change and the uplands are coming is really beyond a joke!

PJHarvey · 24/05/2024 17:10

Polishedshoesalways · 24/05/2024 17:06

How can you say this with a straight face after the chaos the Tories have given us?

Liz Truss crashed the economy but no, scary Labour! 🙄
