Do you know people who will emigrate if labour win?

1000 replies

groyard · 24/05/2024 12:24

This is making me all very stressed. Trying not to freak myself out over future socio-economic ramifications for the UK if there is a wider trend of “brain drain”.

Brother and BIL have both said that if Labour win they will be emigrating with their wives and children.

I’ve heard similar sentiment from others but assume (hope) this is hyperbole.

Just to say, none of the people mentioned are wealthy but just about comfortable. Both highly skilled and in demand internationally.

Ex DPP, a Knight of the realm for services to law and criminal justice. But you find him to be "terrifyingly incompetent ". Where's your evidence for this?

Watching him trying to define a woman or lisping through any interview seemingly without a single policy to inform his thinking on anything!

PJHarvey · 24/05/2024 16:56

Polishedshoesalways · 24/05/2024 16:26

VAT on school fees
sky high taxes
Failing services getting worse
A civil war when they rejoin the EU via the back door
Bonfire of women’s rights
David Lammy putting our global security at serious risk
Capital flight
Exploding debt
A deep Recession
A non existent immigration policy that sees uncontrolled masses arriving
Far left quietly taking over
Housing market crash as country loses the confidence of business
Total fiscal incompetence as their record already proves.

Shall I go on?

What a load of scaremongering tripe! 😂

The histrionics are quite something.

Actually no, business is well aware that the next government will be a Labour one, and they've been lobbying/prepared themselves accordingly.,

Yes by relocating and moving assets! It

Really - that’s exactly what is being planned.

Are you sure you weren't watching Liz Truss?

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/05/2024 16:57

I don't know anyone planning to leave if Labour get in. I know a few wonderful people who left after Brexit.Sad

HeadDeskHeadDesk · 24/05/2024 16:57

I certainly know a few tory supporters I wish would emigrate but nobody who plans to go at all.

Be careful what you wish for. They are currently the ones who pay for most of the stuff. The Labour voting, very high earning net contributor who happily chooses to pay more tax is quite a rare beast, once you strip out the likes of JK Rowling and Gary Lineker.

You tell me Starmer can’t tell a woman from a man… seemingly nor can you.

Guess again, Liz Truss.

Gemz1010 · 24/05/2024 16:58

This is normal rumours when anything changes, people will emigrate but also people will return home.. Brexit was going to see everyone emigrate, some did, many didn't. Things change, better or worse depends on each individual circumstance, always winners and losers in any change of government

Papyrophile · 24/05/2024 16:58

The people who have bought a house in Spain will get residency as long as their property spend was over €500k per person.

Then you won't have any problem showing us evidence for each of those points, will you?

It's got to be a reliable source now, not some opinion piece in the Torygraph.

Has the 'at least Sunak knows what a woman is' brigade arrived?

Polishedshoesalways · 24/05/2024 17:00

It’s not just the brain drain but the whole country becoming third world that’s my issue. We have no idea how lucky we are, the lefties seem to have a sense of entitlement that this will continue forever without considering who is paying for it….

I'm old enough to remember Jim Davidson & Cilla Black 'threatening' to leave the country if Labour got in in 1997. Fuckers stayed, didn't they? Not impressed by this sort of threat - don't let the door hit your arse on the way out.

Paul Daniels as well.

Hopefully spinning in his grave at the thought of "loony left" Kier Starmer as PM.

Bululu · 24/05/2024 17:00

Yes, we included by the end of summer. However, we know we are only wanted here for the taxes. Otherwise, people in this country are very disrespectful and entitled. You just need to wait as all the left wing are campaigning on free sites on Social media so you won’t get a clear picture for now.

Curiossir · 24/05/2024 17:00

Nope, but I will make myself unemployed and claim a shit load of benefits instead of working and paying 50% tax.

Isitsixoclockalready · 24/05/2024 17:00

Some of the scaremongering - I should say 'attempts' at scare mongering are like deja vu. Totally baseless and they sound increasingly desperate. How anyone could still think that another 5 years of Tory rule is a good idea is mind boggling.

MrsKeats · 24/05/2024 17:00

What a ridiculous post.

Civil war?!
How can they have proved their fiscal incompetence when they have not been in power for over a decade?
Bonkers.

A lisp? That's all you've got?
Wow, I feel so out of my depth against that level of political insight, analysis and knowledge...

If only Peter Sutcliffe was standing (and still alive). He definitely "knew what a woman was", and was arguably less of a threat to women than the Tories.

The millionaire donors switching to Labour as Iceland boss backs Starmer

Iceland boss Richard Walker said the Conservatives had overseen a 'total collapse in public confidence' in the government

No one. I live in a very expensive commuterbelt village, lots of £1m plus houses and high earners.

No one planning to leave.

HeraSyndulla · 24/05/2024 17:02

Had this conversation with my elder sister over lunch (she has dual nationality) - her intention is to liquidate her UK holdings and be gone by Christmas, sooner if she can manage it.

I think its just one more negative thing in her mind. As a high earner she knows she'll be targeted plus she no longer feels safe living in London. Thieves have twice tried to break-in ( while she and her daughters were asleep ) and her car has been vandalised for the third time.

It's a shame because she's one of the few female Entrepreneurs, and she's good fun. I'll miss her.
