How confident do you feel that the Tories will lose?

1000 replies

pinklite · 23/05/2024 23:04

Do you feel confident? Going off what I see on social media, there is no way that they don't lose by a massive majority.

However I worry that this is just a small snapshot of the public and is not an accurate representation.

It really wouldn't surprise me if we don't have a Labour majority.

What does everybody else think the result will be?

Labour are allergic to success and ambition. It’s not difficult to see their sneering woke agenda on here, the be kind brigade that are anything but.

Edited

You are such a cliche, ‘sneering, woke and #be kind in one sentence.’ It’s like the country has travelled back 50 years in social attitudes.

I don't think council tax fraud is out of time.

There’s been no mention of council tax fraud that I can find. Of course, with your impressive cut and paste skills, you may have done better than me.

I am talking specifically about the posters going on and on about the impact of this Labour policy on the tiny minority of children who are privately educated who, as I’ve said, clearly don’t care about the impact of Tory policy on the majority of children. Until, of course it might impact their children who may end up in those underfunded, under resourced schools that they have happily ignored for years.

And you are completely ignoring the impact on state schools of thousands - hundreds of thousands of unfunded pupils.

RobinStrike · 28/05/2024 15:44

@Polishedshoesalways instead of sneering at Labour, please can you list Tory successes over the last 14 years? I can list what Labour did last time they were in government but I'd really like to know what you think would convince people to vote Tory?

Clavinova · 28/05/2024 15:45

BIossomtoes · 28/05/2024 15:38

I think you need to reread that.

We will invest nearly £1bn of the money raised implies to me that it will raise more than £1bn and this is how some of it will be used.

I don't think I need to reread it - the other posts from the pp said that state schools will welcome the extra £1.7 billion funding. Is the full amount going to state schools or not? The policy paper I referred to mentioned housing and other policy areas.

Mel Stride just said today they can raise £6b in plugging tax evasion gaps -so why haven't they already done it?!

RobinStrike · 28/05/2024 15:57

Just been announced that police have dropped their inquiry into Angela Rayner -whatever it was for, as they didn't ever say what they were investigating. Could have been council tax, could have been registered address for electoral register. It was all unclear.

14 years hasn't been long enough for them to address this so give them another 5. 😉

Alexandra2001
Plus Reeves has said no fiscal event, should Labour win, so nothing will change (if at all) for at least 2 years.

Not until mid-September according to this;

“The OBR requires 10 weeks’ notice to provide an independent forecast ahead of a budget and I’ve been really clear that I would not deliver a fiscal event without an OBR forecast,” she said. That timeframe would mean no budget until mid-September.

pointythings · 28/05/2024 16:07

So no further police action against Angela Rayner. Some people on here can now put away the 🍿.

BBC -

Rayner investigation details shared with HMRC - police

Following that bit of breaking news about Angela Rayner, we've just received a statement from Greater Manchester Police.

They say, having "completed a thorough, carefully considered and proportionate investigation", officers concluded "no further police action will be taken".

However, the force adds that "matters involving council tax and personal tax do not fall into the jurisdiction of policing" - and details have been shared with HMRC.

The statement ends by saying:

GMP has liaised with Stockport Council and information about our investigation has been shared with them. Details of our investigation have also been shared with His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC)."

It was the government using the police to distract the public and harass the politcal opposition. A frighteningly authoritarian tactic that they've used before.😒

Does Angela Rayner owe money to HMRC and Stockport Council or not?

Or you.

You still go on about Keir’s curry.

Also, I’m surprised you’re bothering with the election, even Gove has jumped ship.

And miss all the fun - no chance.

Luckily I do have a holiday booked immediately after the election (private school holidays!). I might have to find a new hobby if Labour get in though.

frankentall · 28/05/2024 16:21

The stench of desperation from the Tory posters is getting really strong now. It is sad for them that their turn at being in charge is over, but it really is.

Oh yes good let’s talk about paying personal taxes as that will put Sunak in a better light with voters. Oh hang on…

Your link says Sunak's wife is voluntarily paying tax she doesn't have to. Labour had plenty of time to scrap non-dom status when they were last in government.

herecomesthesun24 · 28/05/2024 16:28

Yep it really warms people to man of the people Mr Sunak. He and his family know exactly how it feels to be going through a cost of living crisis.

Same as the Tories then. 😂
