How confident do you feel that the Tories will lose?

1000 replies

pinklite · 23/05/2024 23:04

Do you feel confident? Going off what I see on social media, there is no way that they don't lose by a massive majority.

However I worry that this is just a small snapshot of the public and is not an accurate representation.

It really wouldn't surprise me if we don't have a Labour majority.

What does everybody else think the result will be?

That's how I feel too. I do wish they would try to claw back some of the money doled out to Michelle a one and all the other cronies during covid too, and maybe do a bit of a reset in creating a Parliament where the Nolan standards are observed.

It would be much cheaper and effective to retrieve money from the beneficiaries of Tory sleaze than carers.

GordonBlue · 26/05/2024 00:09

Oh Christ amen to that.

That is an absolutely despicable turn of events.

My predictions:

  • The Conservative Party will lose by a landslide…
  • …but, whilst decisive, there will still be a lot of Conservative MPs returned, perhaps more than people are expecting.
  • The vote will be anti-Tory, rather than pro-Labour. The scale of Labour’s victory will depend somewhat on local conditions, with many voters looking at which candidate is most likely to defeat a Conservative incumbent. Thus, it might be anything from a hung parliament to a solid Labour majority, and it’s hard to predict from polling at a national level.
  • Once in, Labour will be very, very disappointing…

I think you are spot on.

Well now that Rishi has announced that his big idea is bringing back national service I think we can all be confident that he's doomed.

Proof there is nothing left of the barrel to scrape. How old is that bunch of guff?🤣🤣🤣

I’m getting more and more confident. We are only 3 days in but it feels like they lost their minds already.

dreamstates · 26/05/2024 01:12

Not very confident.

I asked my boomer parents about voting today. I said I'd probably go Labour this time.

They were utterly horrified. We live in a traditionally Tory safe seat

  • remember Blair! Remember the one that left no money.
  • Liz truss was ok - she may have been right after all
  • we love Maggie thatcher!
  • labour will ruin this country etc etc
  • labour will mean your small business will shut down

Even after all the current lot done they are the lesser of two evils in their eyes

GordonBlue · 26/05/2024 02:21

Have you had your parents assessed wrt dementia? My mum has dementia with lewy bodies and comes out with a lot of toot like this - her latest was that she felt sorry for Sunak because he had to stand outside in the rain. I did wonder at the time if the whole thing was engineered by the Tories after they'd done some kind of focus group study about boomers and sympathy towards rain soaked politicians but the most likely explanation is that they're just so inept they can't even pick up umbrellas.

However a lot of the older demographic do have difficulties and even when one's faculties decline one still can vote.

Then you have seriously not been paying attention. I'm not the only poster on this thread who's been accused of being a man, an MRA, a TRA etc. just for refusing to narrow my feminism down to one issue. The moment you respond to one of the 'Labour are so bad for women because gender' threads, out it comes. Every. Single. Time.

No - I have seen this when posters are advocating for men over women on a feminist forum (which is pretty weird in itself). But not just when posters say that they will vote Labour or care more about other issues.

IncompleteSenten · 25/05/2024 21:29

If by "the trans thing" you mean the erosion of women's rights and the removal of women only spaces and the removal of single sex facilities for girls then I for one care very much about that but I still won't vote Tory for it.

I'd rather get them out then carry on fighting for women's sex based rights to be protected.

Anyone who thinks the Tories are the answer re women's sex based protections is a fool.

I tend to agree (but without the insult). I do not think that any party is advocating well for women at the moment so they will not get my vote.

This is so fucking insulting that I genuinely have no words. FFS.

If you care very much about it, have you written to your Labour candidate about it?

I understand your position but I am worried Labour will take their almost inevitable victory as an indication that no one who voted for them disagrees with their stance on this.

Citrusandginger · 26/05/2024 10:02

Returning to the OP, I am feeling much more confident of Tory annihilation after the national service announcement. Squirrel.

There was also a delicious article in the times about Tory economic competence. With graphs to show how we are all poorer/pay more tax for worse public services. Never mind, I'm sure a bunch of teenage volunteers will put us right. Hmm

Yes.

herecomesthesun24 · 26/05/2024 10:22

Given that many Tory MPs are refusing to stand it’s clear they know what’s coming. Spoils the fun really in watching Cabinet members lose their seats.

We have a Tory through and through friend who sent a group message about wanting the Labour Government in as professionally their business has stalled until after the election. I know that’s the whole point of our electoral system but when they are ‘true blue’ I feel like they shouldn’t be allowed to masquerade as other!

No one’s born into a political Party
People can swap around as they wish depending on policies.
In fact it would be better if more people were prepared to do this rather than stick with one.
Your friend has every right to base their choice on personal experience. I don’t see that there’s anything wrong with that.

herecomesthesun24 · 26/05/2024 14:21

@BrownTroutBluesAgain I know that and also appreciate if people don’t change parties there would never be a change of Government. What I am referring to is it’s irritating when people swap because they don’t want to be / be associated with being a loser. A bit like if football fans change allegiance - it just doesn’t work that way! It’s irritating when people are vocally Tory until they can see their horse is losing!

herecomesthesun24 · 26/05/2024 14:25

As with the Tory MOs stepping down, they’ve not stopped being Tories they just know they are likely to lose their seats, so rather than supporting their party through thick and thin they are now jumping ship (when they were all happy to tow the party line over terrible policies/party gate etc. ) Show’s them for the snakes they are I suppose.

yhk · 26/05/2024 15:17

I am 100% sure that the Tories will get battered on 4th July.

Look at the by-elections in recent times.

With the SNP in the ground, more of the Scottish vote will return to Labour.

There will be a Labour government in July.

Thats a pathetic reason

I disagree. I am a floating voter who has never voted Labour or Conservative. I am one of the majority of British people who despise this Tory government for wrecking my country. We are a diverse group and our numbers include previous Conservative voters. It even includes Ex Conservative MPs.Shock

Only Tory supporters are still defending this government despite what they may say to the contrary. Last year I was scolded by a poster for assuming she was a Tory voter. Not only did she turn out to be a Tory voter, she stood as a Tory Councillor.Hmm

This.

Some arrogant people on here cannot understand that a variety of people despise the Tories.
