How confident do you feel that the Tories will lose?

1000 replies

pinklite · 23/05/2024 23:04

Do you feel confident? Going off what I see on social media, there is no way that they don't lose by a massive majority.

However I worry that this is just a small snapshot of the public and is not an accurate representation.

It really wouldn't surprise me if we don't have a Labour majority.

What does everybody else think the result will be?

100% theyre out. No way will they get in unless Labour massively cock up with their manifesto. But I don't think it will be as big a landslide as predicted. If you look at MN as a benchmark, it's easy to think labour are going to win with huge majority, but I know lots in real life, usually vote tory, but arent voting for them this time and choosing alternative parties to labour. You won't find many die hard tories who will switch their vote to Labour.

Or Rayner is arrested for tax fraud.

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/05/2024 10:04

Not going to happen. It was a stitch up.

They didn’t arrest Zahawi, did they?

I really hope people vote the tories out but I read an article recently where someone said they couldn't vote labour because "although they're clearly the best party with great policies they might have a u turn and get that bearded bloke back in". You can't legislate against stupid, sadly.

she is a very unpopular figure.

Debateable. A lot of people have great respect for her achievements.

While many might respect her achievements, myself included, they do not want to see her in a high level position within the party as she simply can not stand up to scrutiny on policies when she is questioned being able to shout about changes that can be made is not enough

people won’t forget and if they have shall be reminded of her Tories are scum outburst. It’s too reminiscent of Corbyn type politics which as we know is not popular with voters

she will be back on the back benches within a year or two and Starmer can finally rid himself being surrounded by the left of the party

Or doing a community sentence.

Yes if he is elected I think that she will be moved pretty quickly which will be a good thing.

But that bearded bloke has been kicked out of the party and is now standing as an independent so will shortly not even be an MP any more.

Polishedshoesalways · 25/05/2024 09:58

Well no one is saying ‘when’ Labour win, because we all know the risks and when it comes to it will the country have the stomach for such a big gamble?

I think not.

Lots of people are saying 'when Labour win'. People have been treating Starmer like a Prime Minister in waiting for a while.

I would hope that Islington North has better sense than to elect the cantankerous old man who nearly destroyed the Labour Party, but I guess there's no accounting for taste.

However, him standing as an independent and being expelled from the party has certainly done Starmer a favour.

Except the party is still riddled with the far left.

RobinStrike · 25/05/2024 10:41

Corbyn if he is elected will be sitting on the opposition benches across for a possible Labour government which is very good optics for Starmer. Unfortunately if Richard Burgon etc choose to vote with him on occasional policies that may not look so good. Also, Sam Tarry, Angela Rayner's "ex" partner is also standing as an independent and will have a good chance. I don't think k any of this will cause too many problems for Starmer but there will be occasional embarrassments that will be newsworthy.

SofaThrow · 25/05/2024 10:41

I definitely agree that he is better gone from Labour as he ruined the party and I could not vote Labour when he was Leader. There is much recovering still to do.

I think he will be re-elected though.

RobinStrike · 25/05/2024 10:42

@Polishedshoesalways some small pockets of far left still there, but not enough to control the party just embarrass it. Lots of the Corbynista seem to have left to join the Green Party.

Rayner is the deputy leader….

RobinStrike · 25/05/2024 10:47

Rayner is also politically astute and ambitious. I don't believe she's split from Tarry. But I do believe she's pragmatic enough not to rock the boat. As deputy leader of the party elected by the party Starmer can't get rid of her from that post, but she's not guaranteed any particular cabinet post and once the election is won Starmer could push her into an obscure corner if he chose to. She won't want that so she will stay within reasonable lines

Livelovebehappy · 25/05/2024 10:47

Polishedshoesalways · 25/05/2024 10:01

Or Rayner is arrested for tax fraud.

Really hoping Rayner will be ditched if Labour do get in. She's a liability. Suspiciously muted the last few months, but I suspect will be unleashed once they get in.

RobinStrike · 25/05/2024 10:47

John Prescott didn't do Blair any harm.

RobinStrike · 25/05/2024 10:49

@Livelovebehappy I think the opposite. She's in a position elected by the party and Starmer has to live with that. But the Cabinet will be his choice and he can remove her then after an electoral victory as he will be far stronger then

SofaThrow · 25/05/2024 10:53

Ah the Greens who expect to be taken seriously on the science of climate change but who are obsessed with and riven by gender ideology beliefs and woman hating. 🙄

Is it? Oh, I'll vote Suella Braverman then. Her political opinions seem great Hmm

I'm not a Labour supporter, and I certainly don't have any time for the likes of Clive Lewis or that twat from Brighton but Starmer is going to have such a big majority that he isn't going to have to pander to them in the same way that the Tories have pandered to their right-wing nutters over the years.
