How confident do you feel that the Tories will lose?

1000 replies

pinklite · 23/05/2024 23:04

Do you feel confident? Going off what I see on social media, there is no way that they don't lose by a massive majority.

However I worry that this is just a small snapshot of the public and is not an accurate representation.

It really wouldn't surprise me if we don't have a Labour majority.

What does everybody else think the result will be?

There's no reason whatsoever why we can't have both. It's not zero sum. We don't have to choose between preventing male predators from accessing women's spaces and tackling other forms of male violence.

I'm not saying that you do, I'm saying its weird how the GC only seem to voice the anti-trans opinions. Never see those same people campaigning on the rest strangely.

Bullshit. Labour have not even had a female leader much less a PM to run the country!! Disgraceful.

I also find that a shocking statistic. And when we look at the closest thing to it, Angela two homes Boris allegedly looked up my skirt and it was me who told the media and pretended I didn’t raynor, they are not doing well in the female stakes. And I’m not even going to start with Diane abbot.

i will take thatcher and may any day over those two, and twice on a Sunday.

I would suggest that the conservatives find it easier to have a female leader because so far their own brand of female leaders have shown that they don’t actually like women themselves. No danger of them actually trying to make things better for women generally(!)

May (who has no children) has made sure that women get treated badly in family court issues and may as well be the figurehead for fathers for justice. Bravo(!)

Personally I would love it if we didn't have to devote any energy whatsoever to pointing out that women are female people, not a feeling in a man's head, and that our rights and needs are just as important as trans people's.

Then we could focus on all the other things.

But we are where we are.

As I said, I don't understand why Labour aren't the party of women's rights. It makes no sense to me.

Bring back Tony Blair.

BIossomtoes · 24/05/2024 15:56

Why the hell are they prioritising a tiny minority over the majority?

They’re not. That’s what you’re asking them to do. The majority of us want them to prioritise repairing some of the damage inflicted on us in the last 14 years.

I mean, that's not at all what you were saying there but ok. And if you're not seeing it, you aren't looking. Did you not see the Roz Adams case this week, for example? Fucked over by the sort of stupid ideology you find it convenient to ignore, and spent her career helping female victims of male violence.

NachoHat · 24/05/2024 16:02

I'll be voting Conservative but I'm almost 100% sure Labour will win.

(I just don't want to have it on my conscience or have to explain to my daughter I voted for a party who are open deniers of basic science. The Tories are shit, yes, but voting Labour is like voting for flat earthers!)

TiredCatLady · 24/05/2024 16:12

Honestly, I think it’ll be a hung parliament, a less than ideal coalition (whoever it’s between), a shite four or five years where nothing improves followed by bouncing back to Tories.
The last place I lived, I voted Green because the candidate lived in the area and was excellent.
Where I am now has never been anything but Tory (and a particularly useless one at that) and has a sustained high turnout for GEs. The Labour candidate is an idiot, there is a Reform candidate who looks like he belongs in a low budget horror movie and the Green Party candidate is a healing crystals and sunbeams batshittery type. The only half decent option is the Lib Dem who is hamstrung by being in the Lib Dem’s. I don’t feel represented by any of them and wish I could vote “None of the above”.

but again, how can you make any claim to defending womens rights when you say you'd have to vote Tory due to this one issue? There may be no party in your eyes that are 'pro' woman but bloody hell?! TORIES?!

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/05/2024 16:14

The Tories are toast. They have been since Liz Truss. The only question now @pinklite is how bad is it going to be for them? I mean it's bad already, but I expect them to turn off even more people by the 4th of July.

this gives off so much "not like the other girls" vibes...

when did 'feminism' sound so misogynistic?

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 24/05/2024 16:16

I remember at the last GE social media went into meltdown because some people couldn't believe the Tories had won, and with such a majority. Remember the emptiest vessels make the most noise and the silent voters are never accounted for.

Well at least they recognise what a woman is and have moved quickly trying to safeguard women’s spaces now we have all realised how toxic the trans movement is. Starmer still can not accurately describe what a woman is - so how on earth is he going to safeguard our legal rights and identity?

no other explanation to anyone having a different view than you? maybe different lived experiences?

not that it is any of your business, but i have had my vulva since the day i was born.

i'm not putting women's rights down here, I'm stating there are more pressing concerns that effect far more women than the trans issue. This was down to a statistic showing only 1% of Women will vote BASED ON THE TRANS ISSUE. because they HAVE OTHER WORRIES that affect them greater.

Funnily enough, i don't assume everyone has the same experiences as others but to be as silly as you are on that point, you must be a man because you have a different opinion to me and clearly aren't bothered by the issues i spoke about. (See how ridiculous that is?)

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 24/05/2024 16:21

Looking forward to one line Labour manifesto that simply reads :-

"Trans, to the exclusion of everything else"

At least the printing costs will be kept down.

yes, they suddenly made that decision when they needed a convenient new scapegoat. Can't be brown people now, what with the PM not being White... Benefits 'scroungers' has been overdone. Got to always have someone new to hate.

I have not said I am planning to vote Tory.

The only thing I have ruled out completely is voting Lib Dem.

None of the options are appealing to me.

Where are the safeguards for their own party members who abuse women? AH yes sorry it's only the trans they are protecting you from.

Moved quickly? Are you kidding.

Schools, for example, have been askIng for trans guidance for years and years. We still don’t have it either, only draft guidance which is under review (god knows what happens to that now).

They’ve also left it up to private companies to decide policy for years.

wonkylegs · 24/05/2024 16:24

Since Brexit & Trump I've never had confidence that I know how a vote is going to go. Apathy is a huge problem and people who are unsure are likely to not vote even if they aren't happy with the status quo.
People often don't look behind headlines so unscrupulous lying isn't called out as much as it should be and politics has got awfully dirty in recent years.
I'd love to have confidence but I'm not getting my hopes up. I'd rather be happily surprised than bitterly disappointed.

It's not hate to say that women don't have penises, people with penises don't belong in women's spaces or sports, and that women should be allowed to say no to people with penises even if it makes the people with penises feel sad.

Jesus wept, how has it come to this?

How, literally HOW has this become a controversial thing to say?

What a time to be alive.

You know what, if you really think the number of women who will vote purely on "the trans issue" is so low, why do you care?

Let women vote for that reason if they want to, it won't affect the result will it?

Mischance · 24/05/2024 16:26

Nothing is certain, but it looks likely.

Unfortunately in my neck of the woods the first-past-the-post system is once again likely to result in a Tory MP, in spite of the fact that more people will have voted against him than for him.

Is this democracy?
