Straightforwardly, I think the GE will see a Labour victory, but not a Blair landslide victory. Which would actually be the sensible result. We need a moderate path right now. I know we all hate current politics and politicians and nothing is adequately funded, but Rachel Reeves is not suddenly going to start handing out money that is taken from doubling tax on your uncle's small electrical contracting company.

Doesnt matter who wins - all politicians are cunts.

👏👏👏

Anyone here thinking of voting Green?

Yes. Very disappointed Labour ditched the green new deal and their more tory than the tories stance.

Please do not fall for the lie that all politicians are the same. Vote for the one you may hate the least, but they are not all the same.

One of the very few positive things from the period of Margaret Thatcher's time in office is that it demonstrated that politicians are not all the same and can change things (in her case, largely for the worse).

The police should turn that music down
It's disrespectful :(
What a farce

You think the police are playing it..........?!

So, you don't need or expect it to get better under Labour?

What are you on about? They need to have a chance to govern first to have the evidence. Conservatives had all the time in the world and we are where we are, there's enough evidence of who they are. Ever since Brexit, they have been blinded and disastrous. It's only fair to give the other lot a chance now, they cannot be worse.

I'm just asking what you think that they intend to do to improve things? I've certainly seen a lot of stuff that they have been clear that they will not do, I've listed them up thread. I'm asking what you think they will do that will make a difference? Why are you hopeful, on what basis?

SofaThrow · 22/05/2024 20:50

MagnetCarHair · 22/05/2024 20:00

Yes, all of this.

Are they sticking to the green pledge? No.
Changing bedroom tax? No
Third child policy? No
Reimplement SureStarts? No
Improve benefits for those with disabilities? No can do.
Insulating the NHS from privatisation? No way, says Streeting, more privatisation and making staff work even longer will fix everything.
Build more houses? Yes, they say. Where are all the trades coming from? 🤷they say.

But you can have all the same shit with a side plate of gender woo! Yay!!!

👏

GivePeaceAChance · 22/05/2024 20:51

This is to stockpile stuff for major disasters like cyber attacks, floods etc.

Not because Sunak is our saviour 🤣🤣🤣
it refers to the National risk register
Heres the first page of that.

Errh @PurplePansy05 I'd really prefer to be told, explicitly, with price tags on, their plans for improving all our lives. Because the way elections have worked in my 67 years have tended to play to the "give us/me your vote and we will improve your life by throwing someone else under the bus". I am now in the category of people most likely to be the roadkill because I am retired, with a pension. Fortunate enough to be a survivor of cancer, thank you NHS, but not minted.

I agree
Being told by Labour we’ll tell you after we are in Government isn’t good enough.
Starmer has said he’ll consider what spaces, if any, he’ll concider women have a right to be safe in, but he won’t say until after he’s in power.🤣🤣🤣oh OK then.

I'm getting the fizzy wine, crisps and chocolate fingers in for that night.

Haha so specific, hadn't thought about getting chocolate fingers for it but I will be now

I might be being incredibly cynical, but its handy that compensation for the Post office scandal and the contaminated blood scandal will need to be paid out by the next government ?

Papyrophile · 22/05/2024 21:03

It will need to be paid by any government that is elected @Dymaxion . By the state which was at fault, which is not a party political thing.

MagnetCarHair · 22/05/2024 21:03

I don't think it would be paid out before December in any case, would it?

True I see what you mean
but as they are both cross party issues I can’t see anyone believing the payouts will be a Labour success story.
That would be very naive. !!!

The former prosecutions started in 1999 and the blood scandal 1970s and was known about in the 80s.
Both investigated now under Conservatives and will resolve under the next Government. 🤞

Actually I'm not sure if hopeful is the right word. I don't have much faith in Lab or Cons at all. I don't support either. But Conservatives' governance has been so appalling, they've continuously acted to the detriment of our country. What I think is that Labour cannot do worse than the Conservatives already have, just look at the shitshow they are leaving behind in virtually every area of public life and finances. As such, the status quo or better is still a better choice than the Conservatives who will inevitably fuck most of us over even more.

It's not the point of a success story. Cons are leaving Lab in a hole, forced to pick up and pay major compensation, we are talking billions of pounds.

Infected blood scandal was created by Margaret Thatcher's government when Ken Clarke was a decision maker. Blair and Brown could have started the inquiry, as could probably around 10(? thereabouts?) Conservative governments we've had since. Nobody but Theresa May had the balls to do it. I actually rate May quite highly overall, albeit she also had some shambolic moments.

The Post Office scandal came to light during the more recent Conservative governments and it was also being brushed under the carpet for a long time until now.

Papyrophile · 22/05/2024 21:23

Some folk wil spin them as Labour successes, regardless. I really have no time for either major political party, and none for any of the fringe parties either. That said, I really don't expect my life to improve at all, regardless of how I vote. Nor do I expect my DC's life to improve, simply because we are all in the miserable, easily- taxed middle on PAYE.

Labour in power 64-70, 74-79, then there’s the Blair and Brown years. Other yrs Conservative
Blood infections from nhs importing blood when the uk didn’t have enough was 70s and 80s.. Both parties agree theres cross party blame.

Post office scandal started in 1999 with the first prosecutions during the Blair years 97 - 2007.

Infected blood scandal started in late 70s and continued throughout the 80s until 1991. Thatcher and Clarke signed off US untreated blood.

Post Office prosecutions started during Labour years but it did not come to light that Horizon was faulty and they were unfairly prosecuting subpostmasters themselves until later on.

Of course both scandals are cross-party.

I assumed it was that he knows he won't win so having the election in the July means he gets the summer off. If the election was in the Autumn he wouldn't be able to enjoy the beach.....
