I can't wait for all the Portillo moments.

Completely agree. In a way I hope Labour get in so the rest of the country can experience the consequences of a Labour government like we have in Wales for over 20 years.

The problem is that no matter how badly Labour fuck it up, and they will, Team Labour will still blame the Tories.

BringItOnTooRight · 22/05/2024 22:21

"The problem is that no matter how badly Labour fuck it up, and they will, Team Labour will still blame the Tories"

Lol, Tories are still blaming stuff on the last Labour government 14 years ago. Try and beat that.

brunettemic · 22/05/2024 22:24

They’re all shite.

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 22/05/2024 22:27

Fourteen years of Tory rule has been disastrous for the country. Not just in a 'this has made things shit for most people now' way, but the systemic damage they've done is immense and will last for decades.

Brexit, decimation of public services, the state of education, health and justice, the economy and so on.

Can any identify an area of life that has improved over the last 14 years, other than for the already filthy rich? (And even they might appreciate tripping over fewer people sleeping on the streets on their way to a taxi or limo.)

whistleblower99 · 22/05/2024 22:30

MN will be unbearable now. All the pensioners and people who don’t work spending everyone else’s money. Thinking Labour will be the party of free gifts when we already can’t meet state outgoings. I don’t expect any rational or logical posts on here for a while.

Many are jumping rather than being pushed!

For a moment I thought 4th July would be during school holidays, so lots of people on holiday, but don't schools break up around 19th? 🤔

Can't wait to see the back of these scumbags! I'll be getting the wine in for sure 🥳

It's school holidays in Scotland, so quite a few may be away. Also the Euros are on depending on how far Scotland or Enhland progress lies more people away. Government are probably relying on people not bothering to register for postal vote.

I gained qualifications and experience, meaning I could go for promotions in my work. My income has trebled, and I now receive very minimal benefits. All through my hard work even though I'm a single parent, had younger kids at the start and am now classed as disabled (not that that will hold me back). 14 years ago seemed very bleak with the high promises I'd been given throughout my younger years (labour) to the sudden shit storm of their later years.

or but I can see what that major of London has done. We are the stabbing capital of the world. I rather swallow razors than vote for Labour.

DontSetYourselfOnFireToKeepOthersWarm · 22/05/2024 22:51

Two cheeks of the same arse.

What a choice.

Is it really only either him or Keir starmer in the running?

This is my only concern tbf. I won't be voting for either party as I have no faith in either leader or party.

I know I will be disappointed either way with the outcome on July 5th.

This simply isn't true. There are quite a number of places in the UK where knife crime is more prevalent than in London. Gun crime is also worse in quite a lot of places in the UK. In fact, although crime rates have risen all over the country due to the Tory government, in London (thanks to our Labour mayor) they have actually risen more slowly and in some areas dropped. The murder rate has dropped, gun crime has dropped, antisocial behaviour in general is lower than a lot of the rest of the country.

Ooopsi · 22/05/2024 23:11

Ahhh I feel politically homeless currently …either result will be a disappointment

Bululu · 22/05/2024 23:11

Righto! Who do you think you are fooling? London is a cesspit and for the last 30 years it has never been so bad. Some of us have been around for a bit.

London isn't even the knife crime capital of England, that goes to the West Midlands (Tory Mayor until May) or Cleveland (Tory Mayor).

Edited

Yes, we have been around for a bit. I'm well over fifty and have lived in London all my life bar university.

Look up the stats. They speak for themselves. Sadiq Khan has done a good job in challenging circumstances and I expect the forthcoming Labour government to do the same.

Bululu · 22/05/2024 23:20

So do you really think London is safer than when Boris was a major? Or even Ken Livingstone? Honestly how?

What consequences are those @spuddy4 ?

Bululu · 22/05/2024 23:26

Are these the knife crime numbers you want me to see?

In London, the number of offences soared by 22 per cent with more than 14,000 recorded in the year to September 2023.

BlackEyesLikeADollsEyes · 22/05/2024 16:32

Oh yeah - if this is right, I'll be taking the next day off work so I can stay up all night watching the downfall.

If there is no downfall, I'll be using the next day to cheer myself up.

Really? You’d feel cheerful if Labour got in? Unless they’ve changed a lot since last in power, I think the utopia people are expecting with a Labour government may be somewhat misplaced. It makes me nervous contemplating a Labour government. Im old enough to remember what it was like the last time they were in power.

echt · 22/05/2024 23:40

I'm thrilled. I'd lost my overseas vote for a few years but got it back now.

Exactly how I feel. Neither party bring me any hope for the future. I’m worried that whilst the Tories aren’t great, that Labour will be even worse for our country. I worry that the likes of Raynor will have too much influence - she is too far to the left for me, and would take us back to the bad old days of old Labour.

Yeah, those functioning schools and hospitals, bloody nightmare eh? So scary seeing all those kids with enough to eat and those clean rivers, too <<shivers>>
