Artificial grass - yes or no?

I have a substantial garden, some has porcelain tiles but it’s mostly loose stone which looks bare and is difficult to use so I was considering artificial grass.

I know there’s lots of grades of grass, I’d opt for the premium grade but wanted to garner opinion, what (if any) are the drawbacks of artificial grass? Will I love to regret it?

Stones and gravel were not an option either as the dog eats them.

@OddsocksinmyDocs I am pragmatic and I know everything we do upsets the environment to greater or larger extent. Even paving slabs would be better over the longer term.
Its just having your own garden and then killing it ( especially when you have living things if your own to look after) is so counter intuitive. It’s a privilege to have a little piece of nature and to then ruin it is saddening.

'Could' being the focus word.

Real life experiences tell me homes with artificial grass sell just as quick as those without. You carry on with your own agenda though.

You sound like you're in denial tbh...

I don't see how they could implement a higher council tax on fake grass.
What they could do is have a high environmental damage tax on fake grass at point of sale. The tax should be very high though because a lot of money is going to be spent in the future dealing with this toxic shit.
Better still, just ban the stuff now. It will undoubtedly end up being banned, ban it now, save future generations the job and cost of trying to deal with the environment damage down the line.

Agree. Implementation would be costly .
It should be banned outright.

Every single person I know with fake grass has sold their house within days of being on the market.

Conchersbonkers · 06/05/2023 18:56

That says nothing. You don't know whether they got a reduced asking price, or theyd have gotten more, there'd been a bidding war.. I can categorically tell you I offered less and know others who did the same.

I would still buy a house with fake grass. I'd just have to factor in the cost of removing it and repairing the environmental damage.

How do you even dispose of the stuff?

Anyway op, what did you decide?

Of course I know - it's people i know! Everybody either got asking price or more due to several buyers wanting to buy.

God that's depressing that you know several people with shit ugly fake grass. I don't know anyone with it and can't imagine anyone I know being so environmentally careless as to have it.
I was posting leaflets recently for the council elections and did see a few 'gardens' with it. They were in a really sorry state and on I rough council street. It all looked very depressing and deprived, so sad. God I sound like such a snob. I guess some people live very difficult lives and just don't have the head space for environmental concerns though. Put fake grass down, job done, no further thought.

OddsocksinmyDocs · 06/05/2023 22:08

You don't sound like a snob. 🙂 You're entitled to your opinion, same as I disagree with certain decor fads etc.

I still have real grass in the front garden but try and let that be wild so we have lots of creatures there. We also have plant pots in the back garden which attract creatures too. We also have two birds that frequently come and sit on our fence 🙂

OddsocksinmyDocs · 06/05/2023 22:11

@Kendodd Can I also suggest if you did end up in a situation you had to rip up artificial grass, you could put it on Marketplace? Somebody would definitely take it off your hands 🙂

It screams “we have no taste” AND “we are stupid. And selfish”. Easigrass and their advertising algorithm have really got their audience wrong on this thread 😂

Absolutely this.

Maybe it was low priced then. Sorry, as you "know", I "know". It's all anecdotal. Of course some, few people don't care. But majority do. you won't be able to convince 90% on this thread it's a wonderful thing to have... I'd imagine the houses Id see with this would be, emmm, tacky, low class. That's the general impression that comes with it. Obviously that's in isolation, so when buying a house it's not the only factor one would consider. If the house was in a great location, etc I might put an offer, but I'd factor in removal,l in my offer, and it'd be priority in my list.
