Mine seem to have not Sad
They should be up by now, right? This would be their 3rd year, 3 plants. Nada.

I look almost every day and I don't see them!

Mine are up. Hallelujah! I was getting worried because I'm in Bedfordshire and so many of you are further north.

ilovesushi · 02/04/2023 18:20

Here is one of mine. No sign of any buds.

Here's mine! 7 buds. And some other bits just sprouting next to it.

This peony was in the garden when I moved in 13 years ago. Always flowers beautifully . I'd like to split it if that's even possible, when should I do it?

Are yours up a lot, or only just?
I'm just over the border in Bucks, and mine are honestly just showing.

Are we in some mysterious really-not-northern cold pocket?

Mine is getting munched by something 😬

Daftapath · 03/04/2023 09:13

Mine all have red shoots and the ones at the front of the house are about 6 inches tall, whereas the ones at the back are just sprouting or only just showing the start of the fluffy leaf stage. I'm in London

mamaduckbone · 03/04/2023 10:05

I relocated mine from the middle of a patch of euphorbia last year and very happy to see it's survived the move and is sprouting.

TakeMe2Insanity · 03/04/2023 10:14

Yes - London

@TheSpottedZebra mine are only just up, they're about 2-3 inches this morning. We've had a weird winter, all my evergreens except the holly have suffered so I wasn't holding out much hope of the perennials. My 4 year old star jasmine is dead, my 10 year old cabbage tree looks like its melted and I'm not sure if it can regrow, the leaves on my eucalyptus are red instead of green. They've all survived several winters but not this one.

spidersenses · 03/04/2023 12:24

I'm really excited! I have around 6 peonies in pots. 4 of them have buds coming! Last year only 1 flowered (and it wasn't a great show). My obsession with my flowers has grown arms and legs since covid lock down Smile.

Pleased to hear lots of peony success stories!

Everyone's look further on than my plants and I am in the south. Mine have dark red stems and leaves. No buds yet.

@SuchandSuchandSuch I'd be tempted get the grass out now if you can. It will only get worse. Is it couch grass? That is a bugger to get out.

I've started pulling up the weeds. I think it is couch grass but I did throw some wild flower seeds in there so I'm slightly concerned it isn't. I've attached an image of my sprouting peonies plus weeds if anyone can confirm that it is couch grass that would be great :)

OMG! You've just made me check and yes! They are starting to come up again. One is 4 years old and one is 3. They seem to flower in apposite years, if that makes sense. Is that right?

My little cherry tree made it too! But alas, my little magnolia (birthday present last year) succumbed to the horrible winter.

Good luck everyone with your peonies. Such lovely flowers.

Kerfuffler · 03/04/2023 17:21

Looks like it could definitely be couch grass.

Here's two of mine side by side - it's so weird how different they are.

Mine have only just started to appear and are way off the bud stage. There are four - all planted five years ago - plus two planted in 2020 and a further four planted last year.

The older ones usually flower loads every year and are normally further ahead than this.

One of the older ones also looks to have reduced drastically in size thanks to the abysmal weather which has also killed off a massive ten year old phormium, all my euphorbias and a palm as well as browning the leaves on my three standard bays. Rural SW Wales here.

I’m in south Bucks and they are only just poking through the soil.

Kerfuffler · 04/04/2023 15:15

Not sure if this is a flower bud or just more potential leaves...

Had to update! My peonies have little buds on them! I planted them several years ago too deep in crap soil. Fabulous foliage every year but no flowers - until now - hopefully! I was going to dig them up tomorrow and replant but they must have sensed the potential disturbance and decided to flower.

MrsHamlet · 22/04/2023 20:04

I got over excited and thought mine had flowered early. Nope. It's a rogue tulip!

Yes! Some with heads.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 23/04/2023 14:59

Plenty of buds now, but need some warmth and sun to encourage them to open!

Daftapath · 23/04/2023 17:03

Maybe I should plant some tulips in amongst mine for next year! Grin

evtheria · 11/05/2023 13:05

Update!

I'm giddy at my peonies, the plant has just exploded this year! Still annoyed they aren't Sarah Bernhardt (box said it was) but a vase full of blooms will soften the blow, I'm sure...

They are lovely, @evtheria!

I still only have one bud on one plant. The rest are looking very green and bushy though so, I guess I will have to be happy with that

Thank you! I'm only showing off Grin because for 3-4 years it's just been leaves and a couple of buds.
