Mine seem to have not Sad
They should be up by now, right? This would be their 3rd year, 3 plants. Nada.

I look almost every day and I don't see them!

I've got one bud on mine and thought I was doing well!

Marchintospring · 11/05/2023 18:36

I’ve got some all of a sudden! Here’s proof because unfortunately last year the ants ate them all. I bought one plant the summer before lockdown. I’ve split them into three but only two have made it.

Gorgeous! I read an article a while ago which suggested that ants don’t actually eat the buds but are harvesting the nectar which the buds exude.

MrsHamlet · 11/05/2023 18:49

I don't think this one is going to do very well 🤣

Maybe it’s just biding its time until it amazes you with its floriferousness?

Oooh, so many lovely peonies on this thread!

I bought two Sarah Bernhardt corms for 90p each in the clearance section in B&Q yesterday, having never grown any peonies (or in fact really anything else) before. If I put them in a big pot today/tomorrow, just below the surface, do you think I stand a chance of anything coming up this year (am in Scotland so our growing season seems to start later), or should I expect to just wait it out until next spring?

MereDintofPandiculation · 14/05/2023 20:16

Just wondered whether everyone knows that Peony is in the buttercup family? Makes a lot of sense when you look at the flower bud

I would think you'd get a bit of foliage but nothing for a couple of years. Although. I planted one last year and it has one flower this year which has been eaten by a caterpillar: my other one has taken three years to get three flowers and are about to open.

ilovesushi · 15/05/2023 08:05

@MereDintofPandiculation that makes a lot of sense!

Mine are about twice the height this year. I wonder if it is to do with the strange sunny day, rainy day alternating back and forth we've been having here or it's just that after three to four years in the ground they have decided to actually do something. Can't wait to finally see the flowers. From the buds it looks like they might be a deep pink.

gettingolderbutcooler · 15/05/2023 08:07

Nope!

viques · 15/05/2023 09:16

Just spotted this and it reminded me that when we visited Kew a month or so back we discovered that they actually have a peony garden - you know what it’s like with Kew, you always find bits you didn’t know about, it’s like the V and A - so must nip back next week for a re visit.

(Gardeners World Two for one ticket holder so won’t be eye wateringly expensive. )
