Mine seem to have not Sad
They should be up by now, right? This would be their 3rd year, 3 plants. Nada.

I look almost every day and I don't see them!

do you cut them right down in the autumn?

Yes, I always do. The growth comes through new and not from the old stems

SuchandSuchandSuch · 02/06/2023 11:21

Some of mine have flowered now but I sprinkled wild flowers between them and that was the wrong thing to do as the ones at the back haven't flowered. Is there something that is good to plant between peonies for before they have sprouted?

I have Lily of the Valley around mine. My peonies have only been in a few years, and I suspect I planted them too deep as one only started flowering last year, and one of the blooms was a fascination flower head. The same plant has flowered again this year, though much taller, approx a metre in height, with a few buds, one again a fascination flower.

Try alliums they look great in with them as the leaves are a bit scraggly but the blooms are fantastic

Thank you longtompot - lily of the valley sounds lovely, I will try planting some of them for next year.

Please can I join in with the peony joy? I have 2 which are approaching 5 years old.
Over the last few years one has slowly rewarded my patience by increasing the number of flowers it produces year on year. The other is very stubborn and other than when I first planted it ( it had a few buds on in the garden centre) it has consistently come up blind every year! I live in hope each year that my patience will be rewarded .

No buds on 5 of mine, single plant has a single bud. But it's cold here (Cambs) so we may just be a few weeks behind

ThisGirlCab · 03/06/2023 19:42

I'm still waiting for mine. It's been ages since the buds appeared!

Mine are nearly there! The alliums are seeding now but looked great as the peonies were emerging

I've just seen that there is a peony farm in Hertfordshire where you can pick your own peonies! Why did I never know about this and, more importantly, how do they manage to get fields full of them!

WellTidy · 14/06/2023 11:41

Any advice please for me with my established peony that hasn’t flowered for maybe 4 years? It was here when we moved in 13 years ago and always flowered. I think it’s a Sarah Bernhardt but I may be wrong. The plant looks healthy, but not even any buds for 4+ years now 😞

Has it got buried a bit under mulch/ compost? They don’t like to be too deep. Dig it up this autumn when the leaves have died back, split it and replant not too deeply.
