Mine seem to have not Sad
They should be up by now, right? This would be their 3rd year, 3 plants. Nada.

I look almost every day and I don't see them!

Yes in South Wales

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 26/03/2023 14:06

Mine are spouting. One is ahead of the others - leaves unfurled and one tiny bud - but otherwise they’re just furled leaves.

evtheria · 26/03/2023 15:31

@Kerfuffler They were left from Mother’s Day, must have got rid by now I suppose :( I didn’t actually buy one as I’ve nowhere to plant another, but wish I’d tried it in a tub!

ilovesushi · 26/03/2023 16:15

Waded over my waterlogged lawn to check on the peonies and they are coming on well. About 20-30cm high. Also some signs of my rudbeckias which they look like they have spread, and something else that I can't identify and can't remember!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 26/03/2023 16:17

Ah, yes! I have a mystery plant emerging. Looks like a polemonium in a place where I’ve never planted a polemonium.

TheLastofThem · 27/03/2023 09:17

I just checked my peony I planted last year and it has a flower bud! It's first flower. I have another one that has never flowered - I think it's too deep. So this is very exciting.

I think i see (literally 2 millimeters) of pink tell-tale shoots!
I was super excited...

... or I was until I saw that TheLastofThem has triffid+buds Shock

Oo exciting! I'll have to wade through the bog (lawn) to see how mine are getting on.

Daftapath · 31/03/2023 09:08

Hurrah! I won't give up on my others yet then

NightNightJohnBoy · 31/03/2023 18:24

Omg omg omg - it's through!! Half a cm! I've been in daily peony patrol since this thread started - had given up hope.
What a way to start the holiday ....
Now I'll go through it all again about the flowering

ilovesushi · 01/04/2023 10:06

Those of you that suspect you planted your peonies too deeply, are you going to risk digging them up and replanting and if so when? I'm torn as to what to do.

Also what are you growing alongside your peonies? Mine are near the base of a grape vine, next to some rudbeckia and a bridal shower (I think it's called) shrub. Nothing much grows in that bed but these all do well.

Carlycat · 01/04/2023 13:33

Mine are a few inches high in Cheshire

evtheria · 01/04/2023 14:07

About a foot high now!
Ignore the sad support system I half-arsed last year. Also, 2022 I had about 6 buds, which was v exciting, and every single one was annihilated when DP and DS had a penalty shootout on the small lawn next to this border.
This WILL be my year 🙏🏽

That wasn't a great photo but I've counted 14 buds, I'm so happy.

@ilovesushi Mine is in a shallow and very narrow border. I planted it on a whim 4yrs ago. Besides this miracle plant not much else is happy in this bit, except about a billion hyacinths or a mix of flowers eg forget me nots, poppies, baby's breath.

I was really hoping someone would tell me what to do about them!

I have hydrangeas 'Annabelle' and aliums in the same border, and did have lots of lovely verbena bonariensis last year but no sign of them self seeding again this year as hoped (yet).

Daftapath · 01/04/2023 19:17

Lots of peony plants at the garden centre today

Kerfuffler · 01/04/2023 19:23

I completely forgot about the plant that's been here since i moved in 🤦‍♀️

Buds are a-budding!

SuchandSuchandSuch · 01/04/2023 19:49

I didn't weed mine and there is rought grass growing where they should be coming through. Is this going to stop them sprouting? Should I pull the grass shoots up now or leave them alone?

LizzieBrooks · 02/04/2023 07:54

Mine have and already have big flower buds on them!

They are very old, planted by previous owner and I’ve never done anything to them. Thought they seemed early this year. I’m in the SE.

ilovesushi · 02/04/2023 13:16

Everyone's look further on than my plants and I am in the south. Mine have dark red stems and leaves. No buds yet.

@SuchandSuchandSuch I'd be tempted get the grass out now if you can. It will only get worse. Is it couch grass? That is a bugger to get out.

Kerfuffler · 02/04/2023 13:47

I've got two types growing - one is green and getting bushy already, the other is dark red stems and leaves and going far more slowly. I know they're Sarah Bernhardt and Red Charm varieties, but I don't know which is which.
