Mine seem to have not Sad
They should be up by now, right? This would be their 3rd year, 3 plants. Nada.

I look almost every day and I don't see them!

I think they can take up to 3 years to flower?

SallyWD · 20/03/2023 19:15

I anted mine last year and they've sprouted. I'm in Yorkshire.

Daftapath · 20/03/2023 19:24

Two out of three of mine are barely peaking through the soil with their pink points. The third, nothing yet. They are all in pots and I am in the South.

I haven't given up in the third pot yet!

Velvetbee · 20/03/2023 19:29

No sign of mine (Hampshire). They’ve been in 3-10 years.

ilovesushi · 20/03/2023 20:25

@fatsatsuma I'm in the same position. I moved some beautiful long established peonies maybe about 5 or more years ago and I think I put them in too deep. The foliage is lovely but zero flowers. I've held out disturbing them again as I know they are supposed to be quite temperamental and can stop flowering if moved. But I think I've given them long enough to get over it and I'll lift them out and replant in more shallow soil.

Cieloazzurro · 20/03/2023 20:54

Mine didn’t flower for the first 3 years or so. Lots of foliage but nothing else. Then last year I finally got lots of lovely flowers

piedbeauty · 20/03/2023 21:51

Yes - mine have. Two weeks ago. I'm also in Bucks.

Can I crash this thread full of peony growers to ask a peony question?

Mine ARE coming up (sorry OP...) in central England, and are about three years old, BUT I think I planted them too deep as they come up every year but have never flowered. I've tried removing some of the the soil around them so they feel they are in a shallower position but I'm not sure that has worked. Any ideas? I know they don't like to be moved so not quite sure what to do.

Have they flowered since they were planted? If not, perhaps they planted too deep - they like their buds just below the surface and/or your plant was too small when you planted them, so they'll take a couple of years to establish itself. Is yours given enough room to grow - they don't like competition from other hungry plants. Also, maybe yours are in an exposed cold site? Mine are about 6" tall in a sheltered spot.

Marchintospring · 20/03/2023 22:48

They need a cold spell to flower properly in the summer I believe?

Also it’s good to split them. Maybe dig them up and replant. Can’t do any harm if you haven’t got shoots. At least you can see if they’re rotted or been eaten.

Blu3Salv1a · 21/03/2023 06:16

I d just bought a peony plant, not a hard root. Buds are up. When should I plant out, after frost?

TheClash2023 · 23/03/2023 16:35

Finally seen signs of mine today. Just poking through, so they made it through the frost I

Yay you! It is lovely to see emerging shoots, isn't it?

No peonies for me, not yet. I do see pigeons pecking about down there constantly. Maybe they've pecked them to death?

I'm checking every day. Okay, usually more than once a day, as I really want them back.

They're apparently very Hardy, but I'd probably baby it a bit and not plant out if frost is forecast in the next day or 3...

But, per this thread you may not want to take my peony advice!

just weeded round mine, thinking it’s not sprouting and pulled up a sprout 😳

CaptainMyCaptain · 24/03/2023 10:09

Mine are about 9" high. Near Sheffield.

DRS1970 · 24/03/2023 10:10

Mine have good shoots. Some are 6 years, some are 4 years.

evtheria · 24/03/2023 10:24

If anyone is willing to try a new plant, there were sprouted ones in M&S, £15. Shirley Temple peonies, and I could see some had opening leaves and flower buds already!

GandhiDeclaredWarOnYou · 24/03/2023 11:00

The old one is about 6" tall, and that's in a very sunny spot. The newer ones are in shadier places and haven't come up yet but they are usually several weeks behind so I'm not too worried.

Ooh! Will go have a look to see if there's any near me. Thanks for the tip!

HavfrueDenizKisi · 24/03/2023 12:55

Just noticed mine is sprouting today. About 5 inches high. We're in London.

Sparklynewname · 24/03/2023 20:00

I bought a white one last year at the beginning of the summer and it was really unhappy in the front garden. Cats kept pooing on it I think. I moved it into a pot and it started growing again on my patio and then got eaten by something. There is no sign of anything in the pot now so I wonder whether to empty the pot and see if there is any sign of anything there?
I also bought a red one at the end of last summer and it limped through the heat wave. Then the dog sat on it and snapped it off at the base but now I can see some tiny pink sprouts coming up from it so I really hope it will do something this year!

Veryfishy · 24/03/2023 21:52

I’ve found a bonus peony !
We moved last October , the new house has a massive overgrown shrubbery border which we’ve been clearing and I’ve found a peony sprouting and loads of hellebores and snowdrops ( double bonus )

Kerfuffler · 26/03/2023 13:29

No joy with finding peonies in any of the m&s round here @evtheria - sounds like you got lucky!

I keep looking at sites that sell mature plants ready to flower this year and having to stop myself clicking on checkout.

Daftapath · 26/03/2023 14:03

Garden centres will have peonies and they will be much cheaper than m and s, I would have thought

Still no shoots in some of mine. Still hoping
