Mine seem to have not Sad
They should be up by now, right? This would be their 3rd year, 3 plants. Nada.

I look almost every day and I don't see them!

I only planted mine about 2 weeks ago ( a bulb ? Corm ? from Wilkos ) and it’s about 2 inches tall ( South Wales )

TheSpottedZebra · 19/03/2023 21:10

And just like that, my peony-optimism has faded again.

Gosh, this is a rollercoaster.

I waaaaaant it.

Stop looking and they might appear. It works with weeds...

Flamingnorahs · 19/03/2023 21:14

Mine have sprouted, about 4 inches or so. I'm in the north east of Scotland and its vey vey cold here!

Cotswoldmama · 19/03/2023 21:21

Ours are quite tall already about 5 inches, we're in the south west.

Hedjwitch · 19/03/2023 21:21

Yes. Its in its second year and already much more vigorous than last year. Central Scotland.

Cuppa2sugars · 19/03/2023 21:26

No mine haven’t appeared yet. Mid Wales. But everything is slow here 🤣

NightNightJohnBoy · 19/03/2023 22:04

@Veryfishy how exciting, I'm v envious! I planted one around 2 weeks ago too (also Wilko). No sign when I checked today. Might have to try again next year.
London.

Rollinghill · 19/03/2023 22:06

Most of them but not all of them - the ones in shadier positions haven't come through yet.

Kerfuffler · 19/03/2023 22:10

Is everyone who has just planted them expecting them to flower this year?

FelicityFleur · 19/03/2023 22:14

Mine have, around 3-4 inches now. It’s a relief because it feels like everything else has pretty much been killed off by the weather. My garden is basically a hebe graveyard.

Uurrjb · 19/03/2023 22:16

I’m south, a few pink small nodules poking through on some others blank nothing green/leafy yet

Oh no (but huzzah for your peonies!).
I've lost a few things too, hence my eagerness for my peonies to spring forth.

I've never lost so many things over the winter. Damn that cold cold snap. I've been fingernail-scratching at so many things, hoping for signs of green life!

My good friend gave me my first paeony , a deep dark pink one , about fifty years ago . The mother plant has moved house with me many times since and I have left its daughters in all my past gardens .
It is finally settled into the best spot in my latest garden ; I don't expect it to flower this year , maybe next . Last year's new paeonies are just showing pink sprouts .
I'm in North Wales .
It is very cold and very , very wet .

FictionalCharacter · 19/03/2023 23:30

Mine haven’t yet. South of England, the plants are a few years old. I hope they’re just a bit late.

maximist · 19/03/2023 23:41

Do you know what variety yours is? Mine are sprouting (on a hill in Lancashire) but some are ahead of others. In my last house I had an old peony (not sure of the variety) which flowered a long time before my Sarah Bernhardt did. Most of mine here are fairly new, so I don't know which will flower first, but I'm sure they won't all flower at once!

justasoul · 19/03/2023 23:52

The one planted on the ground is quite tall, sprouted in Feb. I thought the snow would kill it but no. 3rd year too. The one in a pot has only just got little red pointy bits coming through - bought it last year. I’m in south Wales.

ilovesushi · 20/03/2023 08:51

My lawn is like a bog at the moment so I haven't inspected the back flower bed. I can see some green where the peonies should be but it may be weeds!

HistoryOrHistrionics · 20/03/2023 12:00

IME, peonies come out of the ground about 2 weeks after you've given up all hope Grin

Seriously, some of mine have just started above ground but at least half are nowhere to be seen yet. Midlands.

MrsHamlet · 20/03/2023 17:07

Mine are clearly enjoying the rain!

Mistymoonsinastarrysky · 20/03/2023 17:19

Some of mine are several inches high, others not showing at all so perhaps it varies depending upon species?
I wouldn’t worry yet, some tubers on my older clumps are more or less above ground, barely buried at all, others are deeper.

spidersenses · 20/03/2023 17:47

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm in Scotland and mine are really quite well on. Much further than previous years. The leaves are even fanned out on most of them. The most advanced one is around 40cm high. They're a mixture of year 3 and year 2. I surprised they're so advanced.

Wbeezer · 20/03/2023 17:55

I'll in Scotland and mine have come up but the cold and damp this winter has killed of lots of new things I planted last year, anything that likes a bit of heat basically

PleaseJustText · 20/03/2023 18:04

I'm in Bedfordshire and mine aren't up yet. It's their 3rd year. Cant remember when they appeared last year but I was overjoyed to have 2 flowers and several leaves. In year one I got one stem with 2 leaves.

fatsatsuma · 20/03/2023 18:15

Can I crash this thread full of peony growers to ask a peony question?

Mine ARE coming up (sorry OP...) in central England, and are about three years old, BUT I think I planted them too deep as they come up every year but have never flowered. I've tried removing some of the the soil around them so they feel they are in a shallower position but I'm not sure that has worked. Any ideas? I know they don't like to be moved so not quite sure what to do.
