Just a little fourward planning . We are all looking forward to another thread of fabulous pictures. It can be a quiet time but I am sure some of us will have autumnal colours to share . The trees are starting to turn here . I have just picked an allium from my photo collection to start the thread off .
You are very welcome to finish or visit the old thread . I do not know how to do ... this is the old thread here thing .

Lol! Great news...I live in a climate similar to Crete @beautyisfoundwithin...maybe we should should just accept what we are able to easily grow and enjoy each others photosWink

billybagpuss · 17/05/2021 22:40

@beautyisfoundwithin

Lovely photos *@billybagpuss*. Is that first photo Lilac? Also love the contrast of colours in the last photo between the foliage and the gravel and fence.
Thank you Yes it’s been stunning this year, I repotted it and it seems very happy, the Acer has perked up too.
Sweetpea1532 · 20/05/2021 00:09

My wallflower plant is finally coming into its own...I've moved it to 3 different parts of my garden and it is finally happy.
Same with this Black Aeonium Rose...if it doesn't get the right amount of sun it will turn green.

Sad news on the ground squirrel invasion...good thing I baptised them as when I went outside I saw a beautiful red tail Hawk swoop in and grab one for supper...it stayed on the pavement for about five minutes with the squirrel in its clutches until it stopped wiggling.... then off it flew to feed its babies....I was tempted to run out and save the pesky little rodent, but then remembered about the circle of life and all that

Hi Sweetpea, I assume you know, but just in case you don’t, those spent flowers on the erysimum should be cut off. Otherwise the plant will go leggy.
Your garden looks like it grows some exotic plants, you must have lots of sunny warmth.

AnneKipanki · 20/05/2021 07:45

She does @Beebumble2!

😁

Sweetpea1532 · 20/05/2021 11:36

@Beebumble2 thanks for the tip...I did not know that! I shall have my clippers handy.
And like@AnneKipanki says, I am blessed to live in a place with lots of sunny warmth....although May is called May Gray which leads into June Gloom...
It is fine by me because the mornings are cool and then the marine layer burns off by mid afternoon. Unfortunately, we've only had a little over 11cm of rain this year☹

applecatchers36 · 20/05/2021 12:56

Bumblebee thanks for the tip as I think I have the same plant so good to know!
We do not have to water our plants at the moment Sweetpea as have had the wettest May in a long time 🌧️
We are all praying for some warmth to get out in the gardens more!

Sweetpea1532 · 20/05/2021 17:55

@applecatchers36

Please send us some of that rain!

Don't know if you've ever heard of Hoover Dam....it forms Lake Mead from the Colorado River outside of LasVegas....the western US has had so little rain that the lake is down 30 metres!Shock
This is where our water supply comes from...... I don't feel I can waste a drop of it watering my garden! I have to have extremely drought tolerant plants...any time I turn on the tap, I put a washing up pan under it to catch the extra water and then take it outside to give my favourites a drink....especially any food producing plants.
We are PRAYING for some rain here!
What colour wallflower do you have? Does it like all that rain? Did you grow it from seed? Is it a perennial or an annual there?

Lol, just realised that it sounds as if I'm playing the game '20 Questions'! I really am interested, though!Grin

Beebumble2 · 20/05/2021 18:43

I have two versions of the perennial wallflower Erysimum. One I’d purple and the other is a Ruby red. Can’t take a photo because it’s a deluge out there ( sorry Sweetpea ). They are very easy to propagate, although grow slowly at first.
I find the plants are short lived, so I like to have a spare.

Sweetpea1532 · 21/05/2021 16:34

@Beebumble2
I bet the Ruby red is very nice...I've only seen the purple here.

Beebumble2 · 22/05/2021 10:43

Here’s a picture of the Ruby erysimum. I grew it from a cutting and have just planted it in the border.

My Westerplatte clematis has started blooming this week. I planted a 'pot luck' container with unknown plug plants so no idea what colour I was going to get.

Looks like I have a little corner of clashing colours. I quite like it. There's still a petunia to show itself - I'm hoping it's white.

Well all that rain has made the garden explode! A few things have got battered but this is my favourite time of year in terms of colour combinations - zingy green and purple.

@Sweetpea1532 you mentioned acers earlier - I have this one in a pot. It's 30 years old now, and struggles with scale and aphids most years, but so far has managed to survive.

Tumbleweed101 · 23/05/2021 15:47

Working on garden clearance and making new beds this year. Need to sort the back area still and thinking of making a woodland zone behind the caravan where I already have trees.

Sweetpea1532 · 23/05/2021 17:31

@Beebumble2 that red is so nice..it seems very Hardy.
@waltzingparrot your clematis look very healthy...I too like the look of the red and pink flowers together..looking forward to your surprise petunia
@WobblyLondoner wow, your urban garden oasis keeps getting better and better. Your acer is lovely
@applecatchers36 such wonderful colours...is that a rhododendron?
@AnneKipanki I'm not familiar with berberis..very unusual..thanks for starting this thread..I am enjoying seeing plants and colours from other places around the globeFlowers
@Tumbleweed101 I am impressed with your garden..you live in such an incredibly beautiful area and have tonnes of space to work with...whilst being able to put non- living things there, too.( caravan, trampoline, outdoor table) what a relaxing place in which to spend the pandemic lockdowns!

Sweetpea1532 · 23/05/2021 17:36

I'm just curious..don't want to out anyone...I'm wondering how many continents are represented on this thread..I live in US North America and I'm assuming some of you are in the British Isles Europe...any other places being represented?
Do many of you grow fruits and veg?

AnneKipanki · 23/05/2021 18:03

Scotland @Sweetpea1532.
I do not grow fruit and vegetables.

The berberis is a big shrub . It must be about 8 to 9 feet tall .

WobblyLondoner · 23/05/2021 18:36

You can probs my guess where I live @Sweetpea1532!

I have tried to grow fruit and veg but over the years have cut back on that. Not much space, & not much direct sun. The one remaining edible is a tiny apple tree which I think may be dug up to make space for an Amerlanchier this autumn.

WobblyLondoner · 23/05/2021 18:37

Doh - probably guess
