Just a little fourward planning . We are all looking forward to another thread of fabulous pictures. It can be a quiet time but I am sure some of us will have autumnal colours to share . The trees are starting to turn here . I have just picked an allium from my photo collection to start the thread off .
You are very welcome to finish or visit the old thread . I do not know how to do ... this is the old thread here thing .

@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet
Thank you! The fountain is right outside my bedroom window..it is so fun to watch the different hummingbirds, goldfinches , red finches coming to get a drink and also take a little birdie bath.

Can I join in? The tulips are still going strong, and the rain has just made the borders burst into life. This one used to be mainly hellebores but I had to take most of them out as they had hellebore Black Death (yes, really). But it's actually looking better now - has given the other plants more room to stretch out.

@WobblyLondoner
Look! I've zoomed in on your photo and there IS a blue gnome living in your garden Grin

@Sweetpea1532 Grin Where did he come from?! No gnomes I'm afraid but I do have a little stone toad which I bought when I was 10 (I'm 50 plus)).

Re your comments - I do want more height in my garden. The area towards the back of the picture (pink geranium) has a continus that I coppice each year and should explode into growth over the next few weeks but I'm also wondering about adding a tree on the other side - I was very interested in the discussion up thread about amalanchier and esp the point about pruning out some of the lower branches to give more space to plants below. It's a small urban garden so challenging to find the right trees.

Sweetpea1532 · 16/05/2021 19:37

@WobblyLondoner
I guess the little one was just passing through on his forced vacation..Grin
It looks as if you have a Japanese maple to the left of your garden...I love those...
What we do here in the US is make a 'tree" by cutting all the lower branches of scrubs that tend to have some height, like you've mentioned. We'll cut the lower branches from a rose Bush and turn it into a rose tree about a metre tall.... the same with an evergreen and then trim it to our desired shape.... another is oleander....not sure if you have those where you live. Have you thought about some fruit trees?
They are easy to shape. Especially if you get the dwarf varieties and apples and plums need chill hours.
Have fun!

It is difficult getting trees from garden centres just now . The one I go to had a sign saying August for new supplies.

@WobblyLondoner
How big is your urban garden? It must provide you a relaxing space being in an urban setting.

Sweetpea1532 · 17/05/2021 20:01

Lol, @beautyisfoundwithin
Remember those seeds I planted a while ago? Not one has sprouted but the weeds are doing amazingly...I've now resolved to forego ever planting seeds!
Meanwhile, whilst I was trying to get the zillion seeds I planted to Sprout, this healthy sweetpea decided to grow all on its own...no special soil( mainly gravel) , not a drop of water or careConfused

Those Tulips are gorgeous @WobblyLondoner! I do love purple.

Such a shame you've not had any luck with any of your seeds @Sweetpea1532, I do remember them and I was rooting for them to succeed! On the other hand you are definitely the queen of Sweet Peas, they're sprouting in any old nook and cranny now! 😂

I've been waiting impatiently for some colour to arrive in my garden, there's not a lot yet but finally there's something at least!

I've got loads of Forget-me-nots all over the lawn, and some colour starting to appear in my rockery.

Thanks all. @Sweetpea1532 it is about 45 foot by 15, and north facing. Funnily enough I found the estate agent details the other day from when I bought it 20 odd years ago. I'd written lots of nice things about the house and all it said by the garden description was "narrow and overlooked"! Which is still true, but it doesn't have a single thing in it from that original and very sad garden (apart from a rather fetching metal watering can). It's lost about a tonne of concrete, and gained 100 times more plants Smile

There's lots of change in terms of size and aspect - but I do love it all the same.

WobblyLondoner · 17/05/2021 20:40

Argh - last line should say "there's a lot I'd change" ...

WobblyLondoner · 17/05/2021 20:42

@beautyisfoundwithin they are from Sarah Raven - purple doll and paul scherer. Will definitely try that combination again.

beautyisfoundwithin · 17/05/2021 20:45

My Vinca Minor is flowering too and attracting lots of bees 🐝 😊 and I have lots of these cheerful little yellow flowers (Primula?) all through my lawn and under all my trees.

Thanks for the info @WobblyLondoner, I'd love to try that combination too.

WobblyLondoner · 17/05/2021 20:53

@beautyisfoundwithin the yellow flowers are primroses. They self seed all over the place and can be divided. Ever so sweet. I got two from a friend and they're now everywhere.

MargotandJerrywerehot · 17/05/2021 21:04

I'm really pleased with the colours in this border.

@beautyisfoundwithin
I love all your colours!
I'm envious of your forget me nots! I'm going to go buy a small one and try again...I know they are supposed to self-seed, but mine are "Forget Me Not's for Sweetpea "Hmm
I'll trade you all the Sweetpeas I have for a few FMNs.
@WobblyLondoner, it sounds as if you are really enjoying your oasis..and you've discovered the beauty of your garden that someone else couldn't appreciate all those years ago.Flowers
Look @MargotandJerrywerehot,
Seems as if the little gnome from Wobblys has decided to visit yours, too.Wink
I bet the bees love that red flowered bush!

Thanks again @WobblyLondoner. They are very sweet.

Lovely border @MargotandJerrywerehot.

Thank you @Sweetpea1532. It's funny you say that as I sent my grandmother some photos of my FMNs this week and she was also very jealous as she can't grow them where she is (she lives on Crete). I offered to swap them for all of the Bougainvillea she has there! So, with your trade as well I'd be swimming in Bougainvillea and Sweet Peas and happily give away a whole load of my FMNs! 😂😜

beautyisfoundwithin · 17/05/2021 22:05

Lovely photos @billybagpuss. Is that first photo Lilac? Also love the contrast of colours in the last photo between the foliage and the gravel and fence.
