I’m probably too late with the rose suggestions, but I think it’s hard to beat Olivia Rose Austin for an easy to grow, extremely long flowering and floriferous rose

I also really like Boscobel. I think that one is a bit underrated to be honest - gorgeous salmon pink flowers with a lovely scent

And my final favourite is Lady of Shalott, orange-peachy flowers that just light up the garden. Mine flowers properly until late Autumn and then continues to chuck out the occasional flower over winter. It looks amazing next to dark pink flowers, like fuchsias 👌

Crazzzycat · 26/06/2020 15:34

@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet I can’t believe you bought even more roses! Or may be I can 😉😄

That’s really interesting @goingoverground Funnily enough I’ve been feeding this particular clematis tomato food too. I wonder if that’s it?! 🤔

Crazzzycat · 26/06/2020 15:37

Oh that’s lovely @BurtsBeesKnees It looks like bee heaven! 😀

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 26/06/2020 15:44

crazzzycat We usually go to Brittany, France. It's the Hydrangea capital of Europe (that's the main reason I go there) 😂
So the roses are the best possible replacement for that Smile
I'm so glad to see that you recommended Olivia ☺️

Amazing @BurtsBeesKnees

ditavonteesed · 26/06/2020 15:53

Well David Austin don't have a single rose shrub in stock so that's a bit disappointing. Lovely pics everyone, that wildflower birder is amazing.

beautyisfoundwithin · 26/06/2020 15:55

That's amazing @BurtsBeesKnees! I'm very jealous! I did the same thing myself, but the slugs destroyed the entire lot the minute they sprouted out of the ground 😭

ditavonteesed · 26/06/2020 16:27

Never mind must have been a blip on the website, I ordered boscobel and Thomas a beckett.

nogreenfinger · 26/06/2020 16:31

@BurtsBeesKnees wow that looks lovely, can I ask what you have in your pots on the fence pls?

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 26/06/2020 16:37

Excellent choices Smile

My Hydrangea last Friday, and again today. It has become nice and pink, in the space of a week

@nogreenfinger just good old pansies with a bit of ivy thrown in there.

nogreenfinger · 26/06/2020 17:24

thanks @BurtsBeesKnees

BestIsWest · 26/06/2020 17:44

My delphiniums - never succeeded with them before and these came from Morrisons and the dog rolled on them the day I planted them so I wasn’t holding out much hope but they’re gorgeous.

So many beautiful photos! Love the contrast of the rose and the burgundy foliage @AnneKipanki

Beautiful blue @BestIsWest

I'm getting rose and hydrangea envy because my roses all come at once and then leave again quickly, and I love hydrangea but haven't a space for one.

I managed to get out last night to get a shot of the evening primroses before it got too dark, which I've been failing at for the last week. And my succulent is continuing to flower up!

Lovely choices @ditavonteesed! I was going to add Thomas A Beckett to my list earlier, but thought it was getting a little long. It’s an absolute beauty with a gorgeous scent, so I think you’ll like it 👍

I really need to get myself a Gertrude Jekyll. I don’t think I can take these gorgeous pictures any longer @AnneKipanki 😂

I’m loving the delphiniums too. I haven’t tried growing those yet, but am planning to next year. Yours are stunning @BestIsWest

This thread is giving me so much inspiration 😍

goingoverground · 26/06/2020 18:00

High potash feeds will intensify colour, @Crazzzycat, but that is quite a dramatic transformation of your clematis! I don't have a before and after photo of my chameleon clematis but here's a pic of the petals from 2 geraniums, one in a pot fed with Tomorite, one fed with Miracle Gro because it is in a pot with other things that need more N. All my white geraniums are cuttings from the same plant so they are genetically identical.

ditavonteesed · 26/06/2020 18:42

My delphinium has been devoured by slugs I think. I bought a cheeky little fuschia while I was at garden centre getting pots and an up to date picture of the whole garden.

Any tips for changing pink hydrangeas back to blue? They are in pots & were blue originally

goingoverground · 26/06/2020 19:38

The colour depends on soil pH and aluminium uptake, @nogreenfinger.

You need to use ericaceous compost or increase the acidity of your soil with additives, you can get kits to test the pH so you know what and how much to add. If you live in a hard water area and you are watering with tap water that will add lime to the soil and raise the pH so use rainwater. Avoid using feeds that are high in potash, like Tomorite, as that will reduce aluminium uptake. You can get aluminium sulphate additives to change the colour to blue too.

nogreenfinger · 26/06/2020 19:49

thanks @going they are in ericaceous soil but I'm in London so the tap
water is hard. Will start checking the ph

AnneKipanki · 26/06/2020 20:01

Looking good @ditavonteesed 👍🏻

I was just going through phone photos from spring (for a non-flower reason Grin) & came across a couple of amazing transformations.

This fuchsia is in its 3rd year, & it looked so rough in April I thought it wouldn’t be worth keeping, but I pulled out the weeds etc & top dressed the compost, & it’s had liquid feed 2-3 times, & look at it now!

Never give up!
