I'd love to join the thread. Love David Austin Roses. Bought Roald Dahl last weekend and a few flowers are about to open so will share when I do. I don't actually know what my other David Austin's are ....I will need to try and match them!

AnneKipanki · 12/06/2020 07:24

Don't worry about that @Pootle40 .
We look forward to seeing your 🌹.

My first Evening Primrose flowered without me noticing. The ones in the back garden I think are done for, and the one at the front not as big as previous but looks healthy

Beautiful pictures Smile

Yes, please post pictures of your roses @Pootle40
Maybe we can ID them for you... I have the book 💁 Grin

It has been wet and windy here all week and the roses should have taken a battering, but they're still going strong. Remarkable Shock
@AnneKipanki
Thomas AW is more of a red/burgundy shade, but yes to pink Smile
I will take more pictures when it stops raining HmmConfused

That emoji was meant to be blonde. Very important that I correct that 😂

The geraniums are beautiful 🌸

Looked what just arrived, they are a little brown round the edges but the smell was amazing when I opened the box

I'm a rose virgin so any help offered will be wonderful

Oldraver · 12/06/2020 11:32

That would be great @AlwaysOnABloodyDiet! I have 4 already - frankly I dream of a huge garden with every single David Austin variety in it ! ☺️

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 12/06/2020 11:39

No photo from @Oldraver and I'm not blonde. I will contact the tech team immediately Wink

OldRaver I see it now. It's stunning Smile

Here goes.

First one is small bushy variety and quite a lot of flowers. Only 2-3ft tall and 2ft wide.

Second one is prob now 6ft tall but not necessarily a climbing rose - has been left to grow.

Third one is the tree out the front. It was neglected by me in Spring so has been cut now and hopefully will be ok.

I also have a fourth, white one which I need to move in my garden. For some reason I think it’s Glamis Castle. Lovely flowers but not as abundant.

I did look at the online catalogue last night but I honestly can’t remember. I have a feeling the yellow rose tree could be Golden Celebration but I can’t read the tag anymore

Your first one looks like Gertrude Jekyll. This is a picture of it from the book

Although your leaves look too shiny/glossy.
Ahhh I should never offer to ID. I never get them right 😂

Pootle40 · 12/06/2020 11:57

Lol!!!

Pootle40 · 12/06/2020 11:57

I'm going to have another look as well-it was too late when I was looking last night !

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 12/06/2020 12:23

It also looks a bit like Princess Anne but it also looks like 10 more 🤔😂

The 3rd one does look like Golden Celebration.
Although it's a bit pale (the yellow)?

Anyway, they are all very beautiful Smile

Crazzzycat · 12/06/2020 12:26

I’m going to buck the rose trend and post a picture of my climbing fuchsia 🙈

Having said that though, I’m sure I recognise that 2nd rose you posted Pootle, but can’t remember what it’s called. I shall ponder it some more 🤔

OldRaver the only advice I have it to feed and water your new rose lots! I use a special rose food, but failing that I think they’re pretty happy with any food. I don’t spray my roses and I read somewhere that you need to compensate for that by being extra nice to them so that they are strong and healthy enough to fight off diseases and pests themselves. It sounded like sensible advice to me 😊

I think to ID roses you need pics of buds and a couple of different stages of opening flowers as well as overall bush habit and foliage. I am thinking from its unusual height it may be Queen Elizabeth but that is a hyrid tea . Felicia is a possibilty if it is a shrub rose almost as wide as it is high.

Sorry I lost a bit of that post to Pootle40. Lovely roses. My attempt to ID refers to second pic
