Beautiful pictures from Harlow Carr. And very impressive edgy edges Shock

Thomas A Becket today.
It should be in full bloom in another few days. It's enormous, with very promising looking buds

It is raining heavily here today Sad . At least I don't have to water stuff.

We have not had the sort of rain that waters the garden for 3 monthsSad . It is getting unbelievable really after all the downpours up to March.

EducatingArti · 10/06/2020 13:10

We've had a few good downpours in the last week or so, lasting for an hour or so, but the ground is still pretty dry and plants are suffering.

Oh the lawn edges, Always? Not having any grass I didn’t notice. They are very neat!

Your Thomas a Becket is glorious. Harlow Carr has few roses, I was quite disappointed, but this pink one we passed at the end smelled wonderful.

A couple of vistas for you too. It is beautifully laid out Smile

You found a Harlow Carr rose Smile And their roses are planted with Nepeta too 😊
It looks stunning, thank you for sharing Smile

Raining heavily here too, has been for the last 3 days ☹️ very unusual for this time of year. It's useful not having to water everything, although I have had to move some containers under cover as they're now too waterlogged 😬 It's been a shame not to be able to spend time outside though, plus the slugs seem to have declared all-out war!

Lovely photos @GiantKitten, I particularly love those turquoise Himalayan poppies.

And lots more lovely roses too!

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 10/06/2020 14:54

First of this clematis to bloom Smile

That was a Harlow Carr??? How funny! I didn’t see a name plaque but there must be one somewhere. I’ll look again next time Smile

I think it is a Harlow Carr rose. What a strange coincidence this all is 😂

Here's mine last summer, and today (in my hand) it has already bloomed and gone, just about to bloom again

I thought that's what you meant when you said Harlow Carr has few roses, I thought 'mine too' (the rose)
Super confusing Grin

The Harlow Carr confusion continues, Always Grin

HC the place has very few roses, but HC the plant (a huge bush) had loads of buds. I think plants up north are in general quite a bit behind southern ones, it’s always noticeable in spring with blossom & daffs.

(It must be a HC rose, mustn’t it, it looks just like yours and it’s right by the main building! But I will look for a plaque to check next time - we’ll be going again in a few weeks)

GiantKitten · 10/06/2020 16:10

Oh - I think I might be mistaken about roses there in general. Apparently there is a Scented Garden which has lots Confused

DH picked up a guide but I didn’t look at it. NEXT TIME Blush

Crazzzycat · 10/06/2020 16:54

Did someone say Thomas A Beckett? Here’s mine. It’s only been flowering for a week or so, so it doesn’t seem that we’re that far apart in rose flowering time AlwaysOnABloodyDiet?

I’m loving all the clematis on this thread. I could quite happily buy them all 🙈

Another reason to go back @GiantKitten Smile

I think you are a couple of weeks ahead of me Crazzzycat
I'm still waiting for some of my roses. I wish they would hurry up!

I was looking at the David Austin roses at the garden centre this morning Smile (nipped in to pick up a naice plant pot for Dad as an early Father's day present), they're all sooo lovely. I've got my eye on a Desdemona come payday.

Our front garden is supposed to be just white flowers (except the bright red peony that is currently doing it's thing, and daffodils in the spring) and I think I've got space under the cherry blossom (the blossom is supposed to fade to white but it's deffo a bit pink) tree for one more rose. Pic of tree from last march Smile
