Slugs and snails are rife in our garden, I've been going out daily after the kids are in bed, army style, picking them all out Grin

I've lost many lavenders to kindness. I've just sown a load more seeds and will treat them mean until I plant them out as a hedge next year. My drought ridden gravelly south facing slope is heaven for lavender.

My first Claire Austin and courgette flower of the year, my first Niobe clematis planted this week.

French lavender is fairly delicate IME - it’s never survived even a mild winter in Lancashire (& my yard is pretty sheltered)
Shame because I love it Sad

Ooh are you going to batter that and deep fry ?

Dreadful weather today 😣 It’s funny how quickly rain becomes boring, even if you’ve been waiting for it for weeks!

Anyway, sharing a snap I took yesterday of one of my Lavatera’s. I really like these plants, DH hates them...The challenges of gardening together! 😂

@Pogo...Is that a Henrii honeysuckle ?

Ive just bought one with those colours for my red/yellow/orange corner but it's not flowering yet, and it isnt in the ground

Noflora · 06/06/2020 11:57

I like Lavateras too. I had one for years before it gave up and the 2 I have tried since in the same general area needed too much watering in what is an inaccessible spot. I honestly think our summers have become drier in the last 35yrs I have been in this house (on and off).

Not a drop of rain in my waterbutts and this wind is so drying, every day I need to water even the stuff in the ground. I think we've had one decent rain in over 2 months and that was weeks ago.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 06/06/2020 12:08

I have and like them too crazzzycat They remind me of my granny's garden when I was a child ❤️ So it's probably more for sentimental reasons rather than appearance. Mine have gone out of hand though, I think I have 3 and they're all about 8 ft high x 6ft wide, and leggy. We should probably hack them back in autumn/winter?

It's the first year my Peony has flowered, and there was only one flower so it's the first time I've seen this, but I've found it fascinating how much the colour changed from the bud just beginning to open, to it blooming, and now it's faded to almost white!

I've posted the bud and the bloom before, but reposting as you can really see the difference when the photos are next to each other!

Do all Peonies do this?

Our philadelphus is Belle Étoile . It is scented .

OP posts:
GiantKitten · 06/06/2020 22:36

@beautyisfoundwithin no! That’s incredible!
A FB friend bought some light red peonies in Sainsbury’s and those turned much lighter - maybe the same variety as yours.
Mine are creamy white throughout & I think the deep red ones stay the same colour too?
Pic here of my creamies in a vase (I am delighted with them Smile), plus my blue clematis again - can anyone tell me why some flowers have 4 petals, some 5 & some 6? Confused

I am envying the proper flowerbeds here very much. Pots are nice, but need so much supervision/watering, & occupy a lot of space relative to contents!

@AnneKipanki my philadelphus is supposed to be a Belle Etoile...it’s quite clear to me now that it was mislabelled 😬

I look forward to seeing photos of yours when it’s flowering! Does it attract a lot of insects?

Bees mainly!
There is one bud ... nearly there!

@GiantKitten can you grown clematis in a big pot with an obelisk? I really want a clematis but unsure where to put one and that would solve a massive problem. @Davethecat absolutely lovely, I am also a novice and I'm really enjoying watching things mature.

ditavonteesed · 07/06/2020 08:12

Today’s offerings. I now appear to have a whole geranium corner which I’m loving. There is Johnson blue, Rozanne and one that my mum gave me a cutting of no idea what it is. My Salic that my mum got me for my birthday, it’s beautiful but doesn’t appear to be as pink as the others I have seen. And my lovely wild strawberries which take over every year. I am so happy with how the garden is coming together. Can’t believe this is all since lockdown, it was a functional garden before this.
