My flower is not like that . Your one is like a double frill .

I’m a bit puzzled by my Philadelphus to be honest. I wondered for years if it actually was one, because it is such a painfully slow grower, which I don’t think is normal for this type of plant. The new growth looks healthy, but leaves are tiny compared to the ones on “normal” mock oranges.

Now that it’s flowering, it does look more like a mock orange, but it’s definitely not the variety I thought I’d bought as that’s supposed to have simple, single flowers. It’s also not particularly scented 😬

It’s in a key spot in my garden and I’d like it to be a bit more than the 3 sprigs that are currently sticking out of the ground. Not sure what the best thing to do is; keep fussing over this one and hope it will take off some day, or rip it out and start with a new plant 🤔

I shall ponder it some more...

They do sometimes mislabel things.
We bought Johnston's Blue geraniums a few years ago and they definitely were not that .
My one is very scented . I have another with yellower leaves and smaller flowers and it is not as scented.

IH Day Lillies are on of my favourite plants. I had about 5 different ones but had to get rid as the cat tried to eat them

Crazzzycat · 05/06/2020 11:35

My floral contribution of the day is this honeysuckle. Apparently honeysuckle is great for attracting moths, so I’m planning to include a few more in my wildlife friendly gardening plan I’m hoping to get started on my insect hotel next ☺️

My camera is being sent for repair so I can only post very old iphone pics for a while. This is a Generous Gardener bud, plenty to come but I'm not sure I'll get anything as beautiful as tanqueray10 this year. Shame we can't post scent, the mock orange and honeysuckle are really lovely right now.

I put roses at the back of the border for that reason Crazzzycat, half of mine are climbers, the others very tall or my one in a pot which will be moved after flowering. I keep having to talk myself out of buying shrub roses under 5ft because of where I can put them, they get so wide. I may have bought 2 more climbers yesterday.😬

Geraniums are great, I only have one sort, must get more. I have bought veronicas, salvias and a perovskia for my gaps this year.

Gorgeous pictures Smile
Some of you live in the most incredible places, I think we need a scenery thread as well as nature and gardening Grin
I fell in love with Scotland a few years ago when there was an ad released here from your tourist board. It was called 'Surprise yourself, visit Scotland'. I've not been yet
I will search for it again on YouTube tonight Wine
Southern Germany.. We've been to the Black Forest Smile

@AnneKipanki I remember something about black flowers on the previous thread. I can't remember if it was my son or somebody else's son. They are very unusual, I've never seen them. And I visit a lot of garden centres 😂😂😂

I will post pictures over the weekend. My carpet roses are coming into bloom, finally. They do spread quite wide, but I like that. The leaves always look much healthier than most other roses too Smile

I love Honeysuckle @Crazzzycat, bet it smells lovely. I did have one that had been going strong for around 4 years, and then suddenly it just completely died. Went all crispy and brown and that was that. Such a shame.

I'm quite partial to a Silvaner myself @AnneKipanki 😊

I like the idea of a scenery thread @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet!

@WitchWindows I'm jealous of your Snapdragon popping up out of nowhere! I've been trying hard to grow them from seed but they are constantly completely devoured by the slugs.

My picture contributions today: another hanging basket of Petunias and an Azalea (I think!!)

Beautiful photos

Lots of pretty flowers, how do you all keep your roses looking so beautiful? Mine isn't very happy this year

I’m ok with roses. My last garden was very difficult N/E facing and things wouldn’t flower much except the roses. West facing now in new house and they are prolific (I do the usual stuff prune pretty hard / clear middles / rose food / clear spray and dead head nearly every day / water a lot)

But I’m both gardens I’ve killed lavender. How can that be?! In pots this time. I love French lavender and feel determined to get it right but I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.

AnneKipanki · 05/06/2020 16:51

Only photograph the good bits @MarshaBradyo !

Ha true!

I’m going to have to replace with new ones. See if I can do it, third time lucky

popgoesperfection · 05/06/2020 17:02

Grin love your thinking Annekipanki !! Last 2 years it has flowered, so far there are no buds whatsoever Confused

Ah , I have forgotten about my pots ... planted 2 recently , no anti slug stuff .

OP posts:
Crazzzycat · 05/06/2020 17:10

@MarshaBradyo what compost did you use for your lavender? I find lavender is happiest in really poor soil that drains fast. It might be worth adding something to your pots, like some horticultural grit to help with drainage?

MarshaBradyo · 05/06/2020 17:24

Witch and Crazzy thanks you’re right, not enough drainage. Will change it up for next ones.
