We do have a big garden. Which is wonderful, but there's a lot of weeding and a lot of watering to do to!

This year is interesting because DH isn't at Chelsea or Hampton Court, so he's been here and that means he's done more weeding and watering, which means I've done more vegetables than ever before, which in turn makes me very happy!

DonLewis · 29/05/2020 20:49

The gunnera is easily 8ft by 10ft wide. It can get even bigger in wet years!

AnneKipanki · 29/05/2020 20:55

Does that mean he shows at these places, @DonLewis ?

I thought that first photo was very Sissinghurst !

Hey @AnneKipanki he doesn't, he does a very niche job for the RHS at the main shows. I don't think he'd ever 'do' a show garden for himself. It's hugely expensive and stressful! He has built show gardens in the past, but now he oversees the sites, the builds, and other stuff.

It probably sounds fancier than it is. Smile

DonLewis · 29/05/2020 21:00

I wonder if that's terribly outing? Grin

AnneKipanki · 29/05/2020 21:31

Never mind that , I 've just revealed my name to H 😱

My peony is out too! In other exciting news, I’ve discovered a 2nd bud on the plant. Twice the flower power 😂

I love your red roses @AnneKipanki. So stunning!

Thanks @Crazzzycat ! There is a bud on Gertrude Jekyll! Looking forward to that .

I can't wait to see your Gertrude Jekyll. Somebody posted a picture of theirs on another thread, it's stunning. I have to wait until June for almost all of my roses too.

Beautiful peony Crazzzycat

Ooh , which thread?

@Oldraver I love your “lazy bedding plant” Smile

It’s a dianthus? I’m gradually acquiring more & more of the little ones - they’re so tough & tolerant & the flowers very pretty. I wish there was a bit more variety of colours though, mine are just shades of pink

AnneKipanki · 30/05/2020 12:13

Thanks Always , our one was planted last year .
It comes out bright pink at first but fades .

That thread made me wonder if I should add a Gertrude Jekyll to my collection...

The photos look beautiful, but the rumours of massive thorns are kind of holding me back. Is it really thorny in your experience @AnneKipanki?

RedLipsAndRosyCheeks · 30/05/2020 13:07

The rose near my front door. It was here when we moved in, we've lived here 10 years and it's never looked as good (or as massive!)

AnneKipanki · 30/05/2020 14:25

I am not aware of it being very thorny . It is a young bush though.

Just been out , it is thorny.
Comparing it with Rosa Officianalis , it is a devil.

AnneKipanki · 30/05/2020 15:14

Thorny

Yikes 😬 I think that rules it out for me as the best space I have for it right next to a patio.

Thanks for checking @AnneKipanki

AnneKipanki · 30/05/2020 16:06

You are welcome. The Rosa officianilis is a bit bald compared to that but it is a different type of rose.

@AnneKipanki

I didn’t use washing up liquid . I had some liquid soap flakes from Wilko . Someone else advised adding garlic. It was to stop sawfly demolishing my polygonatum. Someone also mentioned neem BUT I do not know what it is

I’ve been using neem oil this year and it does seem to work although I keep finding new infestations in new places. I bought the neem from amazon & got Castile soap on eBay.

Explanation here, & there is a DIY recipe in there too somewhere. Basically 1ml of pure soap, mixed in a bit of warm water, then 2.5ml of neem stirred in, then top up to 500ml in a squirty bottle.

We have 2 baby rowans which got badly twisted new growth last year; I neemed them early on this year & they were fine.
