OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 27/10/2021 14:04

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

Tiny bit of positive news, we finally have a driving test cancellation for a few weeks time!

Alsoplayspiccolo · 12/11/2021 16:54

Wow, Piggy, fantastic news!

Zitti, what a way to end the week - brava to your girl for her hat trick 👏🏻

Fruitygal · 12/11/2021 17:03

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn amazing news!!! It’s just great getting the test out of the way - DD visibly relaxed. I’ve had my own chauffeur this afternoon it’s fab!

@Piggywaspushed

Is it all right if I tell you guys lovely DS has a Cambridge interview? Oxbridge thread too busy fighting to say well done! Grin
O my goodness @Piggy. Your ds has done so well to get to even this stage. You must be so proud of him. Wish him all the best and thanks for your comforting words re: DS.

Oh that's brilliant. Really pleased for you all.
Shimy · 12/11/2021 17:10

@Zebracat

Sorry for the language
Please don't apologise. Love the language in this context, it is shitty! I was surprised to be honest, as others have said I'd imagined they would've grown out of this type of behaviour as they're all turning 18 but then I remembered all the bullying threads I've read about Uni and realised it's n to over yet.

Thanks to everyone for their kind news. Piggy's news has lifted some of the gloom here though which is nice Smile. I'm sure DS will be fine, he's been through a lot and is a tough cookie.

singingstones · 12/11/2021 17:12

Fabulous news, @ZittiEBuoni
Is she thinking about what the future might hold?

whoamitojudge · 12/11/2021 17:12

@OrangeCinnamonCocktail So sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your family

whoamitojudge · 12/11/2021 17:13

@Piggywaspushed Congratulations that’s brilliant news

crazycrofter · 12/11/2021 17:15

Dd has just had her interview with Sainsbury’s - only for a Christmas job initially but she seems to think she’s got it?! She’ll hear on Sunday.

How does ds feel about zoom interviews @Piggywaspushed? I’m thinking it might make it a little less intimidating?

@shimy my sister was bullied at uni, and I’ve experienced it at work, so it’s good that he’s got some techniques to stand up to bullies, as you can never avoid nasty people full stop, they’re everywhere unfortunately. It’s so horrid though Sad

crazycrofter · 12/11/2021 17:15

@ZittiEBuoni so pleased your dd got through her exams! 👏

Nard75 · 12/11/2021 17:26

@Piggywaspushed Well done to your DS that is fantastic news.

@Shimy no one should have to put up with bullying. I'm sure these boys wouldn't be so cocky if you told the school. I don't see why they should get away with it.

Shimy · 12/11/2021 17:27

@crazycrofter It's true you never really outgrow bullies, they're everywhere and in every age group. Sorry about your dsis you having to go through it at work too. Hope you Dsis was all right in the end?

Shimy · 12/11/2021 17:28

@Nard75 I might try and get a some names from DS.

crazycrofter · 12/11/2021 17:41

@Shimy she got through it thanks, she just had a particularly miserable second year.

Piggywaspushed · 12/11/2021 17:45

I think Zoom interview might stress him out about technology a bit.

Decorhate · 12/11/2021 18:02

@Piggywaspushed Excellent news for your Ds!

Monkey2001 · 12/11/2021 18:16

Shimy, that is so sad, kids can be so thoughtlessly cruel. I think something should be said to the kids so they understand the impact of their behaviour, but totally get that your DS doesn't want to be the snitch. I think whether you can talk to anybody depends on whether you can trust the school to handle it appropriately.

@Piggywaspushed great news! I suggest you practice questions over Zoom from another room to see how it feels and practice where to look etc - or camera or interviewer on screen. Have they given you the names of the interviewers yet? I think Cambridge usually do. Some people find their interviewers have written books they have read!

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn good news on driving test. I am still hoping we are not going to be releasing 29th November and making someone else happy!

Piggywaspushed · 12/11/2021 18:21

Yes, we have interviewers' names. Quite intimidatingly intellectual...

icanbewhatiwant · 12/11/2021 18:32

Do we have another thread? I missed the link last time.

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 12/11/2021 18:34

New thread here

Not sure it will last until Crimbo. Many thanks for list @singingstones

EwwSprouts · 12/11/2021 20:50

@Piggywaspushed Whoop! Fabulous to get an interview.

@Shimy sorry your DS experienced this. Bullies do need to be stopped and I know it's hard. I moved DS at primary age after going through the school procedures. I wish I had not bothered with the pointless procedures and the useless headteacher. I would have got him out 6 months earlier.

AnneOfCleavage · 12/11/2021 21:44

So sorry to hear your sad news Orange My thoughts are with you all at this time Thanks

Piggy awesome news on the Cambridge interviews Smile👏

You must be so proud if your DD Zitti. I hope she feels very proud too.

Sorry to hear about DS's school trip and the bullies Shimy but kudos to your DS for his strategies. Scary to hear bullying carries on after school finishes at Uni and beyond when you'd think they'd have grown out of that but I guess there will always be jealous or horrid people that we all come across and learning to stand up for ourselves is a vital learning curve. I learnt it much much later in life.

AnneOfCleavage · 13/11/2021 12:36

Been feeling a bit rubbish last couple of days and been around two different people who later had a positive PCR in the week so I went to a test drive through yesterday. It's come back positive. I feel very rough so it's not a surprise. DH and DD have gone to same drive through now so we'll see.

Was meant to be going to Oxford Brookes open day today.

In better news DD has had two offers come through for interviews and a further one will be sending out info in the next couple of weeks. Her fave Uni hasn't come back to her yet and she's meant to have an open day next Saturday there. I obv can't go but we'll know if her or DH are ill in good time to cancel. We are v happy in the Cleavage household although I am coughing too much to say very much.
