Thread 22 Covid Cohort - Creeping towards the Future - Personal Statements and Interviews

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 27/10/2021 14:04

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

@OrangeCinnamonCocktail so sorry to you and your family for losing your mum but I’m glad she was calm and peaceful at the end.

BlueMarigold · 12/11/2021 08:29

BlueMarigold · 12/11/2021 08:30

(Sorry, for some reason I thought my first message hadn’t sent so I sent it again)

Fruitygal · 12/11/2021 08:30

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn are you using the cancellation apps? To find another test for your DC?

EwwSprouts · 12/11/2021 08:30

@OrangeCinnamonCocktail I'm sorry for the loss of your DM. Look after yourself. Flowers

EwwSprouts · 12/11/2021 08:33

@Zebracat Has anyone seen that the Government has just belatedly issued guidance that exam year students should be tested trembly in public exam conditions so that there is more evidence for teacher assessment should real exams not go ahead.

The Guardian has an article today. DS is underwhelmed.

Fruitygal · 12/11/2021 08:34

@estherfrewen been there with DS1 first term of uni - let’s hope they can whip it out and get him better and home quickly. We were lucky his bloods were so horrific that it was taken out same night. It’s a funny fresher story (for another day) when told in detail but fairly scary at the time. Sending a hug

estherfrewen · 12/11/2021 08:48

Thanks very much everyone. He has seen a Doc this morning so waiting on scan.

Am very sorry to hear the news about your DM @OrangeCinnamonCocktail.

Heifer · 12/11/2021 08:49

sending you a virtual hug @OrangeCinnamonCocktail (very rare) and hope you have some time to chill and reflect. It's a hard time and its so easy to forget about you own needs.

@estherfrewen 30 mins isn't enough time is it. Hope your DS is ok and gets things sorted soonest.

Before I move on to next thread I've attempted an update of the wonderful list @singingstones. Can you all let us know if updates/anything missed?

@OrangeCinnamonCocktail

DD has had a couple more offers Nottingham AAA, and Kent BBB

ZittiEBuoni · 12/11/2021 08:57

So sorry to hear your news, OrangeCinnamonCocktail Flowers. Take care of yourself.

EstherFrewen fingers crossed for your DS that he can be swiftly and effectively treated. I don't think I could cope with the restricted visiting hours. Covid can go to hell.

crazycrofter · 12/11/2021 08:57

Flowers @OrangeCinnamonCocktail, I’m so sorry about your mum Sad

crazycrofter · 12/11/2021 08:59

@estherfrewen I hope they take it out, there was such a lot of indecision when dd was in but I think that’s because there are more other possible causes with girls.

Oblomov21 · 12/11/2021 09:05

So sorry Orange Thanks.
Hope he's operated, out and home soon Esther.

Fiddlersgreen · 12/11/2021 09:05

@OrangeCinnamonCocktail I’m so sorry to hear of your loss Flowers

Wheresthebeach · 12/11/2021 09:09

@OrangeCinnamonCocktail - Sorry for your loss. Very hard on your DD.
Sending hugs.

Alsoplayspiccolo · 12/11/2021 09:10

Bad start to the end of a stressful week here.
DS has his academic scholarship exam for 6th form entry this morning. I am immobilized with a trapped nerve in my shoulder, so DH Dan both DCs to the school bus stop. No sign of bus...We should have had a text last night to say it wasn't running.
Cue a dash home again to pick up wallet so that DH can get petrol to drive them the 35 minute trip in.
DH is commuting from Cardiff to Oxford this week for work, leaving after lunch and getting home after half last midnight. a close work colleague has just messaged him to say he's tested positive, so DH is waiting to hear if he has to isolate.
School can't tell us whether the bus will run at the end of the day.

This weekend is also busy - DH working in Oxford again tomorrow, DS is at music college all day tomorrow (another 35 minute journey in) and has all day GCSE drama rehearsals on Sunday, with a dash across the city for a lunchtime audition and back again.

Any suggestions for freeing a trapped nerve and getting me back to being able to drive again? Confused

Horace123 · 12/11/2021 09:14

@OrangeCinnamonCocktail so sorry to hear about your mum - hope you have the rest of your family around you at this time.

@estherfrewen thinking of your DS.

I am flying back to UK today - it’s been interesting seeing covid in another country which isn’t a tourist / holiday place. Kids missed a lot more school than ours and for the majority of the population online isn’t an option so that’s almost a year with no education. Also 100% mask wearing indoors - no exemptions and the person who reminds you to put one on has a gun so quite persuasive!

20newnames · 12/11/2021 09:14

Sorry to hear your news @OrangeCinnamonCocktail Flowers

Hope your DS gets operated on today @estherfrewen 🤞

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn hope your DS’s jaw becomes less painful soon. Has he had to have it wired? A good friend had a broken jaw as a late teen and he had to have it wired for 6 weeks, it was a very difficult time.
