Thread 22 Covid Cohort - Creeping towards the Future - Personal Statements and Interviews

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 27/10/2021 14:04

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

@OrangeCinnamonCocktail sorry for your loss my thoughts are with you all.

Volterra · 12/11/2021 14:10

Oh Shimy that is so sad and makes me really cross. Both mine have been bullied quite badly and I know how it makes you feel as a parent. He sounds like such a lovely lad and I’m glad he used his CBT but he really shouldn’t have to.

Alsoplayspiccolo · 12/11/2021 14:24

Oh, your poor boy, Shimy! Horrible, horrible, immature behaviour from his class mates - I’d be furious, if I was you, and baying for blood. DS sounds like he did well in handling himself, but that doesn’t change the fact that they shouldn’t get away with bullying.
I hope he can leave it behind and not dwell too much; the idiots don’t deserve his mental energy.

Piggywaspushed · 12/11/2021 15:00

Oh shimy that's horrible. I'd definitely wade in : your DS will not be the only one kids like that bully.

Piggywaspushed · 12/11/2021 15:07

Is it all right if I tell you guys lovely DS has a Cambridge interview? Oxbridge thread too busy fighting to say well done! Grin

crazycrofter · 12/11/2021 15:19

Ooh well done to your ds @Piggywaspushed! That’s amazing! When is it?

Piggywaspushed · 12/11/2021 15:20

2nd December, I think.

singingstones · 12/11/2021 15:31

Well done to piggy DS, great news. How's he feeling about it?

ealingwestmum · 12/11/2021 15:42

And I’m going to say it twice to make up for it, very well done to your boy Piggy!

ZittiEBuoni · 12/11/2021 15:43

Ooh, exciting Piggywaspushed!

Shimy how horrible for your ds. One always hopes most will have grown out of that kind of idiotic behaviour by 6th form but I guess not. I can see why he doesn't want to make waves but it's so hard to know what to do for the best.

DD has achieved a hat-trick of mocks this week! She's trying to think of something she'd like to do this weekend as a treat (within reason...).

Fruitygal · 12/11/2021 15:49

@Piggywaspushed amazing news!!!!!!!!!! When is the interview x

Piggywaspushed · 12/11/2021 15:49

@ealingwestmum

And I’m going to say it twice to make up for it, very well done to your boy Piggy!
Grin

To be fair they have now stopped arguing so distraction tactic worked Wink

Piggywaspushed · 12/11/2021 15:50

2nd Dec fruity.

icanbewhatiwant · 12/11/2021 15:50

Well done to @Piggywaspushed Ds.

@Shimy it's not nice to hear when our dc's are bullied. It sounds like he coped well. ds1 was really quite bullied at primary school and secondary until year 10 or so. He'd been on a school trip away and never told me how bullied he was, but I found an old diary in his drawers, where he talks of "why won't the bullies stop" I haven't told him I've read it, he'd be furious. I actually only read the one page. I felt like I was reading something I shouldn't.

Ds2 however is Mr popular and always has been. I don't think ds3 is bullied. He's very much like ds1 though, but ds1 seemed to be in year group with some particularly nasty boys.

Volterra · 12/11/2021 15:52

That’s great to hear Zitti, hope she has a lovely weekend.

Well done to your DS Piggy, exciting times!

Fruitygal · 12/11/2021 15:53

@shimy sorry that your DS has had this happen - teens can be cruel.

Zebracat · 12/11/2021 15:59

@shimy. That is so shit. These almost adults really ought to know better. I would probably follow your boys lead, but I would want to go in and have them get into deep shit, maybe a suspension and ask how this will look on their Uni reference. I also think it might be worth him stealth recording them if there’s any more nonsense. The deep deep shittiness of it might be more obvious to them and the institution then.
Nothing makes me angrier.

Zebracat · 12/11/2021 16:00

Sorry for the language

Zebracat · 12/11/2021 16:01

The crudity properly expresses my feelings, but the repetition is unforgivable.

Zebracat · 12/11/2021 16:08

Huge congrats to @Piggywaspusheds piglet. And fingers crossed for the interview. Is i5 college specific?

Heifer · 12/11/2021 16:09

congrats @Piggywaspushed i bet you are all chuffed to bits. Is it a virtual interview or in person?

estherfrewen · 12/11/2021 16:10

@Piggywaspushed - great news well done!

Piggywaspushed · 12/11/2021 16:13

It's a Zoom interview with Selwyn College. Two interviews!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 12/11/2021 16:26

@Shimy your poor DS, I bloody hate bullies. My DS was the same when he was being bullied in Yr10 /11 but I wanted to go in with hellfire! I didn't and actually Covid ended it as they were no longer in school.

@Piggywaspushed that's fantastic news!! Fingers crossed that the interview goes well.
