@Fferny1 your mini skirt comment reminded me about a young girl I saw yesterday...he skirt was so short I could see her knickers from behind. Then a few weeks ago I saw a friend with a daughter ds3's age (12) I could also see her knickers her skirt was so short. Made me think, it's just as well I don't have girls because we'd come to blows. I wouldn't let them out in a skirt that short.

Good luck to the west london gang on the immunisations tomorrow. Our last day of school finally today: feels like our school is the only one left: any other dc finishing today? We are off to Cambridge tomorrow for a suss out and to stay in one of the colleges: ds is very unconvinced but wants to at least check it out. And then ds has a week of virtual work experience mornings on cyber security with smallpeice trust - I really hope he enjoys it as it sounds quite full on!! I think both of those were recommended by people on this thread so just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone for sharing suggestions and ideas on this thread: it’s SUCH a great info source!

Fferny1 · 23/07/2021 08:45

@icanbewhatiwant dd's are not quite that short thank god and she suits them. But I've seen some sights around here!
I wouldn't have said minis were the best choice for a work course but dd1 has assured me that's what they all wear now ☺️.
What do I know?!

Shimy · 23/07/2021 09:00

Well, DS has just announced he will not be getting the vaccine. Apparently the has government said, there are more risks to people his age getting the vaccine than not. So he’s not getting it. I could throttle him.

NCTDN · 23/07/2021 09:13

@Shimy he'll change his mind when he wants to go to a nightclub!

Monkey2001 · 23/07/2021 09:23

Thanks government for giving our DC a bonus anxiety factor, just what they needed!

Fferny1 · 23/07/2021 09:24

Well to be fair @Shimy if he's still 17 that's exactly what the JVCI are saying.
Rightly or wrongly ( and there may also be a supply shortage that the government are not admitting to).

Zandathepanda · 23/07/2021 09:35

Icant Having 2 Dds you realise nothing is more political that what girls wear. In the news at the olympics, the committee are telling one female sprinter her shorts are too revealing whilst simultaneously fining a whole female volleyball team because their shorts aren’t revealing enough.

Dd has really long legs and is short waisted so her regulation school skirt looked like a mini. She felt really uncomfortable every school morning as, at the school entrance, the designated male SLT would look her legs up and down, pull her aside and make her undo her blazer so they could see if she’d rolled her skirt up. One day, after another shaming in front of some male classmates, she decided to make a big show of standing upright, closing her blazer up tight then ‘flashing’ open her blazer with her arms outstretched. It only took one more time with every male SLT after that for them to ‘ignore’ her so she could enter the school without hassle.
If you are a girl you’re damned either way. Meanwhile I am seeing all ages of nipples as men and boys walk round topless in the street.ShockGrin

Shimy · 23/07/2021 09:36

My hope was that he’ll be all jabbed up come September so there won’t be too much disruption to his studies (Yr 13). He also has MH issues of which includes high levels of general anxiety and health phobia, so I thought would be best to get him jabbed (pus his mind and everyone’s at rest) sooner rather than later, but he’s also got very strong opinions about things and likes arguing minutiae details and enjoys waving ‘evidence’ around (not bad things in themselves).
Aaaarrgh!

Zandathepanda · 23/07/2021 09:40

Shimy his choice but remind him that thousands of vulnerable 16-18s have been vaccinated already, without any major problems (including my Dd).

Fferny1 · 23/07/2021 09:55

@Zanda that sounds absolutely dreadful that a male teacher is doing that. It's also pointless because said kids will just roll their skirt up after the 'show'.

I was cheering that Volleyball team on. Good for them. Women in Sport are objectified far more than men.

I agree on the volleyball team, but is it true that women are objectified so much more than men in sport? I think a lot of footballers are pin ups and I have heard plenty of women enjoying male physique at sports events.

icanbewhatiwant · 23/07/2021 10:18

@Zandathepanda yes, that doesn't sound good for dd. I have 3 boys, so we obviously don't have anything to do with skirts. Our school have a policy of skirts no higher than the knee. But I don't know whether they enforce it. When I pick up Ds2 now he's driving to school, the girls I've seen aren't wearing short skirts, but we do leave just before school finishes, so I don't see many. Our other local secondary banned skirts years ago. The girls have to wear trousers.

ealingwestmum · 23/07/2021 11:02

So with you there Zanda; DD had same issue with 34” legs/wide hips but shorter torso. Worse was the female teachers shaming her in front of class, whilst she would try and convince them there had been no alterations or rolling of waist band. It’s quite humiliating.

She’s now leading a school project on the back of the abuse website, which has raised the issue of misogynistic challenges girls and boys face across all spectrums, including from those in supposed positions of authority (teachers, sports officials as named here), and how to implement change. And absolutely yes, it’s most definitely across all genders. I have seen some outrageous behaviour from parents of swim kids that think it’s ok to comment sexually on boys’ physiques.

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2021 11:26

I think you only need to read the rules about gymnastics kits to see how objectified the female shape is in sport...

Totally. And if there is still any doubt, follow the Twitter feeds of 2 elite gymnasts, male and female, and note the difference in engagement towards them.
Zandathepanda · 23/07/2021 11:48

Fferny it was actually a duty rota of several male senior leader teachers - to be fair most of them looked very uncomfortable having to stare up and down at girls legs as they walked in.
Ealing good on your Dd. My Dd was delighted a female classmate confided yesterday that she loved her firing back at the boys in the class recently. Dd has been called feminazi etc as the boys aren’t used to their views being challenged.
A couple of years ago there was a serious incident with a boy in her friendship circle where all the girls took his side.
Obviously her subsequent illness has led to that been ‘downgraded’ in ‘crap things to have happened’ - but these incidents do shape them. Hopefully makes them stronger especially when other girls respect them, even if it is said in private.
Ican I used to think trousers were the way to go but teenage girls seem to have tiny waists compared to their hips so added to with long legs it was a nightmare. The elasticated pleated regulation skirts (apart from ironing the 22 pleats when the Teflon stuff wears off) were useful for hiding lumps and bumps of sanitary stuff. Thank goodness there’s no uniform in sixth form. I always imagined I would have boys. They seemed easier to raise but I bet you won’t agree!

I'm absolutely not disputing that this is happening with regards to men as well to a certain extent.
But we don't have men playing football in skimpy pants yet...

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2021 12:02

Anyone at Birmingham tomorrow? Just had an email...not allowedinsuds accommodation which has annoyed me a bit. Also, one guest per student which they didn't specify at booking.

Seeline · 23/07/2021 15:05

We're going on Sunday to Birmingham - well driving up tomorrow for a bit of a look round, and then open day on Sunday. I keep asking DD if she's had any info but being met with the usual eye roll! I thought it said only 1 guest when we booked.

Piggywaspushed · 23/07/2021 15:09

I think when we booked ages ago it didn't say that. Then when the original one was cancelled I didn't read the small print to rebook.

crazycrofter · 23/07/2021 18:19

Hope you both enjoy Birmingham. Looks like it will be wet though!

Zandathepanda · 23/07/2021 18:24

Just because I want to scream it to the world: Dd got A*AA on her report.Star
You lot will have to be my world Grin
I can’t tell you how difficult this year has been for her. She is amazing.

Fiddlersgreen · 23/07/2021 18:34

@Zandathepanda that’s fantastic!! Well done your DD 👏🏼
