Scream away Zanda! After what she has endured, that is fantastic news, but not a surprise given how you have described her...well done 👏👏

crazycrofter · 23/07/2021 18:58

Well done to your Dd @Zandathepanda, that’s amazing!!

In more minor news, Dd got accepted onto the Access to Southampton scheme. She’s mainly interested in the potential £1k if she completes it and goes there - every little helps!

Zandathepanda · 23/07/2021 19:16

Cheers WineWine
crazycrofter good news for your Dd - yes £1000 a nice welcome indeed.
Happy friday and holidays everyone x

EwwSprouts · 23/07/2021 19:42

Zanda Shout away! Fabulous grades.

Crofter Well done to your DD. Nephew went there and loved it.

icanbewhatiwant · 23/07/2021 19:59

@Zandathepanda well done you your dd.

I only ever wanted a girl...I always joke that if ds1 had been a girl I'd have stopped at one. Now I just can't imagine having girls. I hear from some that boys are easier, others that girls are. So I guess it depends. Ds3 is something else....he's really hard work. Ds2 has always been fairly laid back.

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 23/07/2021 20:08

Well done @Zandathepanda’S dd and @crazycrofter’S dd: great news both! I love that this thread is a safe space to celebrate!

Alsoplayspiccolo · 23/07/2021 20:14

That’s wonderful, Zanda!! Well done to your DD!

Great news for yours too, Crazy!

Zebracat · 23/07/2021 20:30

Good news @Zandathepanda. @crazycrofter, Ours got accepted too, she seems totally underwhelmed. Must have another look at what it all means and try to sell it.

Fferny1 · 23/07/2021 20:40

Really well done @Zanda's DD.Showing such resilience and mettle in a really difficult year🌺💖

Well done to all the other successful applicants of access schemes.

DD went off to London for her course in a very short denim mini. Luckily DH didn't notice until she got out of the car and by then it was too late🤷🏼. Her Ucl room looks lovely and seems to have a brilliant view of the rooftops.

crazycrofter · 23/07/2021 20:55

Well done to your Dd @zebracat, maybe they’ll come across each other at some point. Honestly, I think the £1k if you go there is the selling point! But the things they’re putting on sound useful too.

@Fferny1 hope she enjoys the course. DD’s skirts have been getting shorter and shorter too, I hate them but am trying to pick my battles. She’s waiting on dh to say yes so she can get her nose pierced tomorrow! And ds is growing a mullet! I don’t know which are harder, boys or girls? We’ve had a huge amount of school related grief with ds but Dd has had emotional/mental health issues which are also stressful. And of course neither of those things are gender specific.

Fferny1 · 23/07/2021 21:09

@Crazycrofter that all sounds very familiar 😂. But no nose piercings yet.
Ds1 now has a man bun and weight training plus protein powder means that he's doubled in size and in muscle over the last year.

DD2 has multiple ear
Piercings & hair colours that she changes regularly ( she got her twin brother ds1 to streak & cut it earlier ).

Ds2 is going through a very difficult time with m.h. issues but is balancing out dd1 who's happy & content at the moment.
It's all a ⚖️ act.

Seeline · 23/07/2021 21:24

Congratulations zanda - great results!

Birmingham currently looking doubtful - having driven home from Norfolk holiday my ankle has swollen to double its normal size. Not fancying 4 hours to Brum tomorrow.

crazycrofter · 23/07/2021 21:25

It’s all good fun isn’t it! Ds has also turned into a muscle machine in the last year, with daily gym and weight training.

Dd pierced her own ears with an extra 4 holes on each ear in lockdown! Every time I saw her there was a new one, I was worried she’d never stop! She’s let one or two close over since then though, thankfully! She dyed her hair black last week and doesn’t like it so that’s another drama!

Sorry to hear about ds2 @Fferny1. 2 to worry about is hard enough, not sure I’d cope with any more!

Shimy · 23/07/2021 22:33

Great news Zanda what a way to end the week. Congratulations @crazycrofter & @Zebracat wishing them all the very best of luck on the course.

Shimy · 23/07/2021 22:36

@Piggywaspushed We decided not todo Birmingham anymore tomorrow, DS had not remembered to book himself on any of the talks and felt it was too far to go and not be able to participate in anything. He’s decided when more Unis are doing face to face from September onwards he’ll go instead.

Monkey2001 · 23/07/2021 22:50

Congratulations on the good news @Zebracat, @crazycrofter and @zandathepanda, nice way to start the holiday!

Piggywaspushed · 24/07/2021 06:44

Oh no seeline. Hope you are OK!

We will head off in a couple of hours. This is the nearest of DS's choice, apart from Cambridge.

We are going on holiday to Barnard Castle (!) on Monday and have just discovered the pub in the village is not open on Mondays! Really annoying as it is DS1's birthday. Another pub 10 mins away also not open - understaffed. I have seen its ads asking/begging for staff to train up. Ironic as DS1 cannot get a job round by us despite applying for about 20!

Oblomov21 · 24/07/2021 07:22

Well done Crazy, Zanda, and Zebra.

Orangecinnamon21 · 24/07/2021 07:26

Fab news @Zandathepanda after all she has been through

Congratulations @crazycrofter & @Zebracat I hope they enjoy the activities. Quite good of them to have a contextual scheme that doesn't just make provision for entry. I know Southampton are good with schools liaison in better times too. I'm a firm believer that Universities should give back to their immediate stakeholders and communities.

After Ds2 deciding he was going to university, then wasn't going, now he wants to again....we have booked an open day at Sussex. He wants to do history with philosophy with a year abroad. He seems to think only Sussex offers this. But there are others.

Fferny1 · 24/07/2021 10:05

DD was waiting for the maintenance man gone 11pm last night at UCL. As there was no water in her room. She'd informed reception earlier but apparently they had sent him to the wrong room.
They're not allowed to go into each others rooms apparently. I think there were some organised games laid on last night for them. Hence she was shattered & desperate for her bed.

crazycrofter · 24/07/2021 11:16

Oh dear @Fferny1, I hope she gets her accommodation sorted.

@icanbewhatiwant that doesn’t sound the most niche of subject combinations so there must be others? Although there’s a lot to be said for knowing what you want. We’re looking at Plymouth on Monday, on our way to the festival in Cornwall.

Monkey2001 · 24/07/2021 11:34

Sorry to hear that @Fferny1, hope it has not spoilt the course

icanbewhatiwant · 24/07/2021 12:07

@crazycrofter he seems set on Sussex. Ds1 was set on UEA our nearest university, that's where he is. DH's dd and family live near Brighton, so Ds has spent time down there. It would be nice to go somewhere completely new. I will try to persuade Ds to look at other places. Ds1 does regret staying so close to home, he has been living in Norwich, but it's still a city we knew already.

crazycrofter · 24/07/2021 13:01

Yes, there’s no way Dd would consider Birmingham, however nice the campus, as she wants to go somewhere new. I’m trying to convince her that 2 hours away is preferable to 4 hours though!
