I got stopped at the airport this summer with a forgotten miniature of Bombay Sapphire in my handbag! Blush Not in a standard issue plastic bag.

Ok, I'm definitely buying something for the return journey, just wake me at Kings Cross!

I didn't drink the g&t at the bus stop by the way. It's still in my bag and the bus never came.

Good luck for tomorrow OYBBK.

HesMyLobster · 28/09/2018 23:00

I find an emergency can of g&t in my handbag at all times is the best strategy Grin
I've even been known to pack a teeny Tupperware of lime slices and those plastic ice cube things.

Its the only way to survive public transport!

LoniceraJaponica · 28/09/2018 23:12

Good luck for the remaining dropper offers tomorrow. DD and I are off to another open day.

marmiteloversunite · 28/09/2018 23:12

Wow Lobster that is impressive forward planning!
Good luck tomorrow to all dropping off. When you see your kids excited and happy it is a bit easier to hold the tears in.

DD went to join the rowing club today but found that it clashes with her music activities which are basically compulsory if you are doing music. She is disappointed but can't do everything. I have been trying to persuade her to find some other exercise to do as it is so good for mental health!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/09/2018 23:13

yeah yeah Ursula....

bloody hell I forgot to buy a lime.
Grin

Thank you.

I think madly knitting a scarf for DS to take to university is reasonable...but madly knitting a matching mini scarf for his soft toy is a bit ridiculous. I thought if I made the effort for hid cuddly he would be more likely to take it, and I think having your cuddly at university is a good idea. I know pretty much all of my mates, male and female, had a teddy on the bed 28 years ago...

GnomeDePlume · 28/09/2018 23:26

Best wishes to this weekend's dropper offers.

We have DD2 back for the weekend for her brother's birthday. She has now given us the full horror of her first night spent in A&E with a flatmate. Apparently not only did they have flatmate to deal with but also a hospital lockdown as a couple of gunshot victims had been brought in and the police were worried that the shooter was in the vicinity!

Probably just an ordinary Saturday night for some but a bit of a shock for DD2.

littledrummergirl · 29/09/2018 01:05

I picked up a message today(yesterday, not yet asleep) from Ds1, it said "can you send my NHS number"!
At least it opened some communication. It was dd birthday and we managed to speak to him which was lovely. He was on the phone when we brought in the cake so joined in singing happy birthday to her-it made her day. He also left a really thoughtful gift so she was so happy.
It was lovely to talk to him. He's out again tonight at the freshers ball. Confused I really hope he has fun. He sounded tired but happy. Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/09/2018 05:40

Did you get it done Panda?

Thanks for the reminder of the nhs number Drummergirl I'll take a snap before we set off. Happy birthday to your dd.

Yikes Gnome, bit of a scary night for your dd.

I'm hoping my insomnia will settle after dd goes.

Good luck to everyone dropping off today.
Kitten - definitely a g&t for the way home!

UrsulaPandress · 29/09/2018 07:09

Mine hasn't improved. I was posting on MN at 3am.

Safe journey.

Downeyhouse · 29/09/2018 07:13

Good luck for today Kitten. I think your dad is the last of this year’s starters to go?

I found the trip home last weekend rather a wet teary one. Felt pretty down and emotional until Wednesday when I had a long chat with ds.

It has got easier since then and it is starting to feel like the new norm.
Even feel ready to tackle his room this weekend :)

Downeyhouse · 29/09/2018 07:14

Sorry your dd not your dad!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/09/2018 08:38

Lol at Dad!

Lobster is taking her lass today too. Journey is going OK so far. I even suggested we could manage the cactus family but dd was a bit worried about trying.

I can't cry on the train that would be awful!

Downeyhouse · 29/09/2018 09:15

Good luck too Lobster - had lost track. Sorry.

Have lovely memorable days both of you. Hitch up you big girl pants - smile and nod like crazy - you can do this.

raspberryrippleicecream · 29/09/2018 09:16

Ms Awesome Dragon's DD is off this weekend too. I think *Lobster's' DD left last week, but is being reunited with her belongings this weekend!

Think there is a few more Panda?

Good luck everyone.

Can't wait to see my DD again today.

Nettleskeins · 29/09/2018 09:33

marmite I loved rowing, but in the end the early starts were too much. She may find a silver lining in that.
Ds told me he had joined the Quidditch society, I scoffed inwardly and I'm afraid outwardly but it turns out that it is an actual sport, not just an enthusiasts meetup.

Some time in the middle of the night I had an anguished call from ds saying he had a letter asking whether the tuition fees had been paid, and what was he to do. It turned out a payment had been declined 3 weeks ago, but he hadn't understood the import of the email, thinking it was crossed wires, as we had sat together and had confirmation that pyment had gone through. And then he ended up in a state about his DVLA application (EU citizen so different process) which i had forwarded to him.

I reassured him on all counts and said I would sort things out today and find out what had happened on the money front on Monday from the finance office. But the middle of the night?? I suppose that is when your anxieties which are kept at bay all day by rushing around surface, and you just need someone to talk to.

Luckily I was having an extremely uncomfortable night on my airmattress (new mattress arriving today, I've just been hoovering under theenormously heavy bed for what seems like the first time in several years) so him ringing me was a welcome interruption from sweaty/deflating/narrow about to fall off feeling.

Nettleskeins · 29/09/2018 09:38

marmite yes, I did rowing for about 4 months (before that rowed all summer recreationally on lakes) and then gave up despair in Feb as it was so cold in the early morning..Choirs are very team building, and there is lots of exercise that you can do solo at your leisure in contrast.

kitten hope you are safely on the Kings Cross train, looking out the window at the fields as you head to the fens.

marmiteloversunite · 29/09/2018 09:51

Yes. I know that the rowing thing is full on but she has been rowing since she was 13 and had won a few championships in the south west so I think I am finding it hard to let go of that. Have spent too many hours freezing next to rivers! Grin

Good luck Awesome dragon!

marmiteloversunite · 29/09/2018 09:53

Btw I am up, showered and dressed! Still a bit sore but feeling much better. Going to venture out v gently for coffee. Have a good day all!

Nettleskeins · 29/09/2018 10:35

marmite oh that is frustrating - I hadn't remembered she had been such a keen rower before, and of course you have it in the back of your mind that x uni will have good facilities for rowing etc.
However, I think like music and drama and art ballet, it is not wasted if you do less of it as you get older, it is part of your education/character formation earlier and then sometimes it has to take second place to some other important thing you do in your life. And it never leaves you that you had that excellence - definitely feeds into your life on some subliminal level later.

I know people whose children were brilliant actors/involved in everything performing arts at school but went onto be medics, or vice versa.

But I agree exercise is important!

Sorted out the financial mixup. Poor ds it must have been so stressful for him, I feel very guilty, but it does prove the point that he needs to communicate with us about admin, we would have known long ago there was a problem if he had only mentioned it.

chocolateworshipper · 29/09/2018 11:12

Good luck for the drop-offs!

Marmite so please to hear that. I hope you have a great day
