A safe space for worrying.

DD has just announced that she won’t look at Track or emails before she goes to school in the morning. I may just have lost my temper a little. WineWineWine

Clairetree1 · 15/08/2018 19:55

I'm hoping to be with DS when he looks at tarck, then he is going into school alone for his actual results.

I am scared to death

UrsulaPandress · 15/08/2018 21:05

Some folk are saying that if you miss your offer you have to compete in clearing for the lower offer. That is madness surely?

Nettleskeins · 15/08/2018 21:26

I've had a productive day not thinking about A levels.
Ds has been absolutely useless today, so I've given up on him. A record late rising today. We've issued an ultimatum for tomorrow that from now on he gets up at 10am every day or we are not paying for uni.
I've cleared the Tv room and gone for a long walk to buy cat food. Also put loads more stuff in the car to take to storage and the charity shop.
Another long chat with another friend, this time in Northumberland. the more you meet people who are not getting A level results this year you realise the world doesn't stop turning...

starfleet · 15/08/2018 21:38

Good news Ursula. Let's hope tomorrow brings even more.

DS's course is in clearing but grades aren't showing any lower.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 15/08/2018 22:06

I don't think so Ursula. I think students who specifically chose the uni as 1st choice generally do better than those who put it as insurance and better than those who got it through clearing. So unis know this and would prefer to offer a place to students who put it first over a clearing student.

I sort of gave up on the thread a while ago as DS2 isn't on the same path with his BTEC and now HNC, but I do want to know how you all do so can't resist popping in. Smile

LoniceraJaponica · 15/08/2018 22:20

"Okaaay. Dds course is showing in clearing with BBC. She was asked for AAB. Presume this is good news?"

Same here with DD's course. The one that she is going to decline after tomorrow, because she has changed her mind and wants to take a year out and reconsider her options.

I am disappointed that she isn't going this year, and sad that she will feel rather bored and lonely without her boyfriend and best friend. However, she is a very young (just turned) 18 and will probably benefit from being a year older and more mature when she does eventually go to university.

I'm glad you're back Ursula, and happy to hear that you have been given the all clear.

Nettleskeins · 15/08/2018 22:25

I'm bored now.
Everyone has started bickering.
Dd is crying about Sixth Form choices. I've offered her a Scottish boarding school [only half joking] but she is unconvinced. She says she wants an 8 or 9 in RE and if she doesn't get it her life is misery. She says she hated drawing insects for the textiles gsce and everyone else loved it. And everyone else finds Maths easy (she is predicted an 8)
Perhaps this is why ds is staying in his room. conserving oxygen..

Picnic at Hanging Rock is not helping. so gruesome I had to switch it off.

Nettleskeins · 15/08/2018 22:30

lonicera I think you and dd are Very wise to stand back from the panic and just take stock. A friend's son watched his girlfriend go off to uni and took a gap year with ABC, it was very nice to visit and have an overview, see more unis on open days, apply with his grades properly confirmed (he was accepted by Glasgow) work, travel. She said he grew up enormously and was so ready to study when he went off; also happy to choose a uni far away without feeling homesick. which a year earlier would have been a consideration (distance I mean)

Clairetree1 · 15/08/2018 22:31

I've got a houseful, several others are walking down to the school together tomorrow, and have decided to start from here

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2018 23:05
Gin

I don't know whether I feel sick from worrying or it's my infection that's making me feel so crap. This is awful. I know that ultimately dd will be fine, it's just that everyone is Expecting Things of her. It's too much.

UrsulaPandress · 15/08/2018 23:10

Big sigh. It's raining here. And the nights are rapidly drawing in. Autumn is around the corner, like a hobo ready to pick up the landscape of summer into his knapsack and head off towards the closing of the year. All change.

OP posts:
MsAwesomeDragon · 15/08/2018 23:17

kitten I know exactly what you mean about Expecting Things. DD is feeling that pressure, and she's not even got the pressure of needing specific grades for uni. Everyone keeps saying things like "of course DD will be fine, she always gets really high grades". The people saying it intend for it to be reassuring, but it's piling on the pressure instead and will make it much harder if she doesn't get the amazing grades she wants.

DD is very nervous tonight. I'm worried about her. DH said "she's going to uni anyway, I don't see what all the fuss is about" because he's an arse.

MsAwesomeDragon · 15/08/2018 23:18

It's raining here too. Typing it down!

UrsulaPandress · 15/08/2018 23:21

I do worry that school over egged DD's pudding.

Oh well. The die is cast.

OP posts:
HesMyLobster · 15/08/2018 23:36

Ursula Yessss! That sounds like very good news - Both the breasts and the clearing!

HesMyLobster · 15/08/2018 23:38

Kitten you've gone very poetic.
I know what you mean about the Expecting Things.
DD has had several messages from family and friends wishing her luck. All well meaning and very sweet but I think she'd have preferred everyone to have forgotten it was even happening.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2018 23:53

Poetic Grin

HesMyLobster · 16/08/2018 00:06

It's today Shock

HesMyLobster · 16/08/2018 00:08

Oops! Ursula is poetic.
It's because you're the wrong colour on this thread!
(And probably the gin)

UrsulaPandress · 16/08/2018 00:10

Right. I'm going to try some sleep.

Night all.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/08/2018 00:14

I did wonder whether it was down to my lack of education in literacy things Grin

sleep well Ursula.

HesMyLobster · 16/08/2018 01:22

Goodnight, hope everyone manages to get some rest xx

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/08/2018 06:13

Good morning all :) Fingers crossed for everyone today!
