They've left college, now we are trying not to think about a certain date.

We don't have to go shopping now.

DS got an email from UCAS to let him know they are sending him a free razor. They must have seen his beard Grin

YippeeTeenager · 01/08/2018 22:39

Stop with your crazy shopping, house training and lists! You’re all being far too grown up and sensible about this whole thing and making it harder and harder for me to stay in blissful denial.

No planning here or shopping until we know which direction DD is heading in, and even then I’m blitzing it in a couple of days, not prolonging the agony. Not sure how that will pan out exactly. Missing life skills will have to be acquired on the job, and then maybe she can fill in some of my gaps. I’ve been feeling angry all day, not sure if it’s the countdown to R-day getting to me or my crazy hormones.

Why are other peoples dcs getting contact from UCAS and Unis. We have had nothing.

Anyway I don't care as DD has finally tidied her room. . I'm hoping that as she has done it she will know where stuff is located so won't need to pull everything out looking for an essential black garment.

We drink nothing but Twinings Assam on the tea front. I was introduced to it by a young lawyer who had a penthouse flat in Holland Park when I moved to London as an innocent country girl in the 80s. Happy days.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 01/08/2018 22:44

DS2 is getting all sorts of emails from UCAS. I think we failed to tick a box TBH!

YippeeTeenager · 01/08/2018 22:55

Thank you OYBBK. I’ve had work colleagues wittering on about all sorts of petty stuff all day and expecting me to take an interest when it’s glaringly obvious (to me) that the only thing that matters right now is the day that must not be named!

Ursula, would you know if your DD had had emails from UCAS or Unis? I think my DD is enjoying keeping some of this to herself, and then I find out a few days later when she’s ready to share. I’m not allowed to actually read the emails though, that’s a step too far. I like it that she’s taken ownership of the process and her own destiny, although I’m also very nosy and itching to see everything. Congratulations on the tidy room, that’s eluding us too right now!

TheThirdOfHerName · 01/08/2018 23:07

Not sure if DS1 has had emails from UCAS or not.

He told me today that he has forgotten the login and his password (of course he has) for his school email address. The one the A-level results will be emailed to.

I searched through my email archive and thankfully it says he can also go and collect the results in person. Let's hope he hasn't forgotten how to get to school. Hmm

TheThirdOfHerName · 01/08/2018 23:08

Ursula enjoy the afterglow of the tidied room.

GnomeDePlume · 02/08/2018 05:55

DD2 had a set of earphones, friends have had razors. It looks like UCAS has been clearing out some cupboards. Next up they will hit a long forgotten stationery cupboard whereupon our DCs will start receiving typewriter ribbons and carbon paper.

Stress is starting to tell here. DD2 is not finding sleep easy. She and DD1 have been bonding over late night bowls of cereal and boxsets. Though strangely they arent including tidying up after themselves in their bonding sessions.

Ah well, we will start imposing stricter rules once The Day That Must Not Be Mentioned has been and gone. At the moment DH and I are quietly getting on with things (hiding on the allotment).

2 weeks today if you hadnt noticed.

If anyone wants to come over to Facebook there's a very supportive group on there too
WIWIKAU ( what I wish I'd known about University)
Over 1000 members since it started last year. Many of us have had dcs at Uni , or heading off to Uni for first time . Lots of advice tips and just general chat and a friendly support group to offload on
I have/ had 3 dcs at different Unis around the country in England and Scotland and wish I'd known some of the things that have been discussed there before they'd gone
My youngest dsis going into second year in September, so know how you're all feeling....he didn't get into first choice course/ Uni on results day ( needed a B in biology, got a C)....and then decided he didn't want to go to insurance Uni after all
He phoned up the clearing line at the Uni he really wanted to go to and asked what he could study with his results!
He's now very happy on his course at a Uni he loves and has made some great friends already
Just remember if they don't get the exam results they need, there are always options
Good luck to everyone

Can't believe I misspelled stationery. 😱

Right I'm starting to worry now about dds lack of contact. I have asked her. She could do with some new earphones as the horse chomped a pair.

I'm already in that group on FB. There seems to be a deal of upset around unconditional offer holders not getting the accommodation they requested. A friend's dd is in that position. She is a very clever girl but for some reason has accepted an unconditional offer at an ex college. She just got her accommodation through and it is neither on campus nor en suite.

In other news, I have booked for DD to have her Meng ACWY jab when she visits the asthma nurse next week.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/08/2018 08:06

That'll be a joyful visit then Ursula! dd had hers at school, but now I'm doubting myself.

dd had a giant mega data sim card through UCAS - a marketing thing.

Will the doctor have records of injections? I've lost track of what she's had. Since we stopped using the Red Book!

She hates injections so I have to go with her so she can crush squeeze my hand.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/08/2018 08:26

Should do, that's an idea. I'll get her to give them a call if she doesn't remember.

Ursala Dd got a print out of her injections for camp america. Everything was on there. We have also had her hep b added which she had privately but will also need for Uni as she is doing a health course

bruffin · 02/08/2018 08:44

Dd s btec certs arrived yesterday so her results are official , very proud of her.

TheThirdOfHerName · 02/08/2018 08:44

DS1's whole year group were given the MenACWY at school. His took three attempts as he is very needle phobic.

TheThirdOfHerName · 02/08/2018 08:45

bruffin well done to your DD!

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 02/08/2018 08:46

DS2 was sent the mega data sim as well but he's happy on his £5/month 1MB one.

I think he's had his Men ACWY jab. Confused Not sure about DS3 now...

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 02/08/2018 08:48

Well done Bruffin's DD

It did seem weird receiving DS2's BTEC results on an official certificate. Did your DD's come like that?

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 02/08/2018 08:49

Just read back. His certs were the first we knew about his results.

bruffin · 02/08/2018 08:56

Dd got that Sim as well.

Thanks, she worked so hard so she could leave early at half term and go to USA.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/08/2018 08:57

Hey :) Congratulations to your dd Bruffin :)

WIWIKAU is a good Facebook page. Lots of useful tips and support. (Waves to Stop).

Two weeks, today. Aargh.... dc wants to have a look through his wardrobe to see whether we need to buy anything before he goes.

Petalflowers · 02/08/2018 09:01

Well done Bruffin.
