Not the end of the threads, just this chapter of life. We'll keep going, don't worry!

However! Not to be used until this one is done

Another C4 student who, found it hard. I’m outraged that the paper was leaked.

Dc took himself off to the golf course to relax, and actually put suntan lotion. Years of nagging has paid off!

After much debate as to where to go, went to a Chinese Restaurent to celebrate the end of A-levels and GCSEs . Lovely meal (although a little, pricey).

Dc2has six form induction next week, at two different schools, so the cycle begins again. One he wears a suit, the other smart casual, clothes. We went through his trousers and discovered that only one pair now fit him! He’s only worn tracksuits trousers or shorts recently, somhadn’t realised he had grown out of them.

doistayordoigo · 23/06/2018 08:03

DS said C4 was "alright" but when pressed admitted he hadn't answered all the questions, but that means it was "alright by his standards" Hmm

FP2 and S2 on Monday and then we're done. I'm hoping he'll sort out doing his driving theory test after that, and book his DSA needs assessment.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/06/2018 08:28

I've been loving prom pictures that have been coming up on my feed this morning. I woke up this morning and thought 'yes, I've had a good sleep at last' then realised I'd only been asleep four hours. Managed to go back to sleep though.

Monopoly sounds great.

It's reassuring to hear of others peoples reactions to the end, perhaps I'm not quite as bonkers as I thought Grin

Oh gosh I posted about prom pictures and monopoly on the wrong thread!
That should have been on the GCSE thread (where people were posting prom pictures!)

Luckily Third is on both so she could humour me!
Glad the monopoly was a success!

I apparently should not post after too many gins! Gin

TheThirdOfHerName · 23/06/2018 09:58

HesMyLobster Smile
I'm actually quite surprised that I've got through this exam season without accidentally posting stuff about DS2 on this thread (or vice versa).

DS2 (GCSEs) doesn't want to go to his prom and DS1 (A-levels) doesn't have his prom until the weekend after results day.

Petalflowers · 23/06/2018 10:02

So there’s a lot of us with double exam stress this year, although I think its actually easier with both of them doing exams and ‘revising’, then one.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 23/06/2018 10:58

I did wonder, Lobster! Grin

NoHaudinMaWheest · 23/06/2018 12:45

Dd's school doesn't have a prom. I have the feeling that there wouldn't be many takers.
They do have a presentation of the certificates they do in conjunction with the local university on Monday at the university followed by a cream tea. Parents are invited and it seems quite civilised.

GnomeDePlume · 23/06/2018 14:46

Spent the morning clearing DD1 from her student flat. It was like a car boot sale Generation Game with a human conveyor belt moving second hand kitchen and personal care gadgets from flat to car.

She is home and now thinking about next steps.

DD2 having been fairly sanguine is now starting to try and second guess her results.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 23/06/2018 15:56

Is dd1 finished now Gnome? Does she know her final result?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/06/2018 16:19

That sounds lovely NoHaudin :) Id love to go to a presentation thing. dds college does do a prom next weekend, but it's much less of an affair than her Year 11 one.

OP posts:
GnomeDePlume · 23/06/2018 16:38

NoHaudinMaWheest yes this was her final undergraduate year. She got her results at midnight, a first! She's now starting to think about postgraduate, an MSc or a PhD.

If it is any comfort to current y13 students she totally stuffed up her AS levels which restricted her final A level grades (previous system). But she did get on a course which she enjoyed and has had a thoroughly good time.

So the moral of the story is that A levels are a part of the journey not the end.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/06/2018 17:04

That is so awesome. Congratulations to your dd Gnome :)

Thank you OYBBK

TheThirdOfHerName · 23/06/2018 18:47

DS1 has been to the supermarket for beers & nibbles and is getting some garden chairs out of the shed for this evening's 'gathering'.

He has put loads of tealights in jam jars out on the patio... 😂

NoHaudinMaWheest · 23/06/2018 18:48

Gnome congratulations to your dd that is an excellent result.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/06/2018 18:56

Excellent Third Grin

We've had a lovely day today, went down to a local summer fete and listened to music. I had a massive ice cream cocktail thing.

That's fabulous gnome. Congratulations to your dd!

Dd has a prom, which she is going to, unlike at GCSE. It isn't till July though, a good 2 weeks after the last exam (which is on Monday). Leavers day is this coming Friday, which seems very late as well. Some of dd's friends have had time to go on holiday after their last exam and still be back in time for leavers assembly and prom.

I am currently out for dinner with dh, as dd2 is on a sleepover. I literally can't remember the last time we went out as a couple!! Is that bad? Dd is at home, fending for herself.

Downeyhouse · 23/06/2018 19:28

Congratulations to your daughter Gnome. And a good reminder that a level results are not everything.

Poor ds still plodding on with revision but is managing some odd glances at the football.

The thought of graduation week is pushing him on.

2/7 last exam
4/7 RESULTS DAY!!!
6/7 Graduation Ceremony
7/7 Prom with parents - graduates leave us at midnight and are bussed to another location for the «after party» which goes ok to 6.00 am!!!!

He will then prob sleep for a week!!!!!

Nettleskeins · 23/06/2018 19:28

had a not very satisfactory day. |Trying to get the kids to help is like pulling teeth.

However I did manage to get ds2 to do half an hour of watering and sweeping and clothes hanging out. Ds1 has been a lost cause, apart from a brief run (which for some reason he thinks of as "work for which I should pay him") Dd is only interested in preparations for her Prom. and is annoying me by her failure to move a large pile of stuff on the landing which has now been there for nearly two months!!!! despite having time to do everything else she wants to do.

I've made pear cake today, large rice pudding (a lot of milk was delivered whilst we were away Blush) borsch with two elderly beetroot, and negotiating a fair amount of aggro all and sundry. Hmm well tis be expected I suppose. Very difficult to plan holidays atm....

Nettleskeins · 23/06/2018 19:31

however, I think things will calm down soon. It is early days I suppose. Only a 5 days since ds's last A level exam, why am I worrying??

Nettleskeins · 23/06/2018 19:39

Did I mention that ds2's Prom was a fantastic success? Grin so I should be cheery. Just longing to get away from London and cannot seem to fit it in with all the little appointments that keep coming up Induction Days, Proms, World Cup..and dh work commitments of course AND all the jobs that seem to have been piling up over the last few months and desperately need to be done (like new mattresses) but then clash with any arrangements to get away...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/06/2018 19:51

It's really hard to switch off isn't it Nettle. And all the bits and pieces means there still isn't brain space.

What I'm struggling to get my head round is the fact that when dd finishes, I'll still have work. I've got it in my head that we are both finishing bizarrely. I'm going to be really resenting it I think!

OP posts:
Nettleskeins · 23/06/2018 20:24

I'm so lucky not to be tied to paid employment atm, so I need to use this opportunity wisely, which is partly why I am getting annoyed with everyone, poor creatures.
I've found a long walk for ds to do independently (by train) from Cholsey in Oxon, hopefully he will be glad to get out of the house. He has said he wants to do a really long hike across country, yet to see any signs of it being planned or any signs of physical fitness, but I feel better now that I've thought of something to suggest to him. He has to hang around until the 10th because of his Grade 8 exam, but there is of course plenty he could be doing here and there. He has just managed to pick a fight with dh over the German team, really it is too much to have to referee your own family!!!

Nettleskeins · 23/06/2018 20:38

sorry, what I just said sounds wrong,

I think if I had a job at this point it would be MUCH better, even if it was tiring, but it would probably inspire the children to be more helpful and motivated, and at this turning point when they are meant to be more independent it feels a bit wrong to be so tied up in their arrangements.

So, here is to DISENTANGLEMENT. Sits on leavers bench with some nice neatly wound balls of artisan wool in rainbow colours and a variety of textures and weights, and ten pairs of knitting needles. And some OS maps.
