nettleskeins - DD covered Henry II through to Magna Carta. Her fab teachers bunged 8 Sixth Formers in a two cars last October H/T and did an Angevin Kings road trip around France. It was apparently like a combination of The Italian Job and Thelma and Louise Grin

Icouldbe - flipping good point. Ours is with Lloyds; I will check the Ts and Cs later . .

Hope all those having a rough time have a decent weekend Flowers

flatmouse · 14/06/2018 12:13

@starfleet - I helped DS sort his travel insurance and we read the small print on gadget cover. Because I bought DS phone/currently pay for contract, it wouldn't be covered by gadget cover on his insurance.

GnomeDePlume · 14/06/2018 12:33

The report from the coal face was that 'physics was fine'.

M2 tomorrow then its Chemistry and lots of lovely maths (according to DD2). Final paper is on the 25th. Following day is year 13 prom - it could be messy!

Keep going, we are nearly there.

starfleet · 14/06/2018 12:52

flatmouse - the phone account is in his name so covered. I did double check and like you read the small print before buying insurance.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/06/2018 13:17

That's a good point knitting. Will check.

I've done my sensible deed for the day and checked my own national insurance contributions to if there are any gaps for my state pension. Heartily relieved that it looks ok. I've a gap during my student years and a years gap when I was a kept lady but that's it.

I remember getting my NI number and ruminating that I had to work for ever to get a pension Grin

DD came out of her Psychology exam punching the air with a big grin on her face - best yet apparently. Only one girl wasn't happy. She burst into tears and didn't bother with her extra time as her brain had gone blank! Poor love.

Only two to go now, and they are her favourites.

Whooppee.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/06/2018 13:36

That's great Ursula :)

Physics was fine. All maths now....

marmiteloversunite · 14/06/2018 13:37

Fab news!!

Thesearepearls · 14/06/2018 13:39

DS came out quite upset about physics - he said he got a 3-mark question wrong and didn't have time to re-work it plus something went wrong with a 6-mark astrophysics question. It doesn't sound like the end of the world though.

Two maths papers tomorrow.

Glad we're all seeing the light at the end of the tunnel :)

lashingsofgingerbeer · 14/06/2018 14:02

Geography exam under way now after a cheese toastie, extra ketchup & fresh pineapple - her choice! DD drove herself to the exam so I insisted she texted me when she arrived & got parked ok!

Today I am feeling exhausted & my tank is well & truly empty, no extra mileage in me whatsoever! Do others feel like that? Maybe I'm about to come down with something Confused

Hope the Physics DC all ok - sounds like a bumpy ride!

Kitten you will delight in scoring off all those exams as they pass. The touch line will be in sight soon, but in the meantime plenty of Gin or Cake to get you through, or both!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/06/2018 14:14

That's a shame pearls. I think though when it comes to recalling individual questions that went a bit wrong, it's generally ok.

Interesting lunch choice lashings Grin I'm utterly worn out too. I have no idea how dd is trucking on still. She's at a revision session at the moment.

Two tomorrow, five next week, then two the week after then done.

UrsulaPandress · 14/06/2018 14:17

I'm exhausted too. Poor hound is getting very truncated walks.

TheThirdOfHerName · 14/06/2018 14:28

knitting we've bought DS1 a year's worth of travel insurance for £28 (off the top of my head it covers everywhere except the U.S.) He is off to Belgium in a couple of weeks and then South Africa the week after.

Nettleskeins · 14/06/2018 14:37

The gcsce rs are nearly done (physics tomorrow, dd's just finished the last Spanish paper today) They are both happily revising not stressed at all anymore.

I have to say we have all gone off the boil. I know nothing about ds'sMusic A level so I cannot get involved Grin with this weekend's revision except to lob him nourishing food. Tomorrow is very soon, for Poetry Eng Lit, so I cannot do much about that either..

We've been having lunch in the garden a quatre and it is an hour and a half of World Cup at 4pm which ds insists on watching with ds2. Not my idea of concentrating but hey.. He's been into a long English Revision session in school so back on a decentish time clock with regard to rising by 8am.

He's going to be home alone next week for two days whilst we go abroad to see FIL. It will be odd, but the first time he has ever been alone in the house; I think it will do him good to have some independence - I seem to have been nagging him for several weeks now.. Anyway next week is a bit of a blank, frightening, but we will all have to get through it. Then two proms at the weekend for the gscers. Something cheerful to plan for, ds2 is obsessed by the suit we are supposedly meant to be buying for him. He was looking intrigued by tartan or suits with tropical parrots - is this a "thing" or are prom suits for young men meant to be very regulation smart? Moss Bros does a brocade jacket. Ds1 would never be seen in such a thing but ds2 seems to be showing a bit of Cavalier flourish in his taste.

Nettleskeins · 14/06/2018 14:39

South Africa coo!!

UrsulaPandress · 14/06/2018 14:42

I'm trying to decide whether to book flights to South Africa for next Easter based on dds first choice Uni Holidays. Would that be jumping the gun?

Icouldbeknitting · 14/06/2018 15:13

Ursula Do they have much difference in holidays? I know when DS starts and that's as far as I got.

Nettles I have some misgivings about music. There's a shortage of past papers with it being the first presentation, it's a new teacher too. I think we're past the stage where bullshit and G5 theory will cover up a deficiency in knowing Actual Facts although it is possible that he's been doing some real revision and I'm worrying about nothing.

The saving grace is that the exam is only 30% of the marks and even if it's the worst case scenario (if the musical equivalent of the unseen text is a piece that was on the order of service) that will be the second question rather than the first so there's a chance to have picked up some marks before the wheels fall off. It will be what it will be, hopefully it will be fine because if it isn't there's the chance of it pulling down Law in the afternoon. There is nothing I can do about it and worrying won't help anything so I'm going to divert myself with yet more painting of concrete pots.

UrsulaPandress · 14/06/2018 15:29

The Uni seemed to get 3 weeks, the insurance just 2 which quite frankly is not enough for my plans 😉. I have a big birthday next year and I wanted to celebrate it by driving up and down the Kruger Park for which I will need at least 2 weeks.

PandaG · 14/06/2018 15:49

Can't keep up with the pace of this thread. DS happy with physics, and currently doing a maths past paper ready for tomorrow, when he has 2, one straight after the other poor thing.

Hope ill DC get special consideration, and better v quickly.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/06/2018 16:41

I'm keeping an eye on the post count in the thread. Won't be long before we need another one.

It's interesting hearing about breakfasts. I don't eat it and it's never been a big deal in this house. DS2 very averse to food first thing so have been making him giant mugs of tea until he discovered hot chocolate with cream so I've been making him a milky hot choc with cream and marshmallows just happy to get some calories in him. DS1 likes to chill and prep his own bagels and eat undisturbed. I think I'd be sick if I made a cooked breakfast early in the morning!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/06/2018 17:53

It's funny isn't it. I didn't used to eat breakfast until I had dd and decided I should set a good example. Now I can't imagine not having it. But I'm normally a muesli and yogurt sort of person.

Nettleskeins · 14/06/2018 17:58

Ursula I've looked up ds1's firm and he gets 4 weeks at Christmas and only two at Easter. So ski-ing is available for the first time ever at a cheaper rate (ds1 cannot ski atm, and I can, barely) I've written off Easter as usual, it is never available. Years of being stuck in the state school holiday system and still no time off at the most beautiful time of year (early May)

I've always wanted to go on holiday to Med in mid September, that is now open to ds1 at least (but not for me and the Year 12's next year)

TheThirdOfHerName · 14/06/2018 17:59

DS1 usually watches current affairs, US dramas and satire.

After four exams in four days, he is now curled up on the sofa watching Shrek.

Downeyhouse · 14/06/2018 18:08

Glad to hear it’s been a positive day.

Ds texted that geography went “pretty well”. I’ll take that!!

He went into the city after his exam with his fellow geographers and is already back in the city with classmates letting their hair down. They all now have a nearly 2 week break until the oral exams.

He is running on 3 hours of sleep so must be due to hit the wall soon. Could be messy.
