It does seem daft that a one hour paper is worth 40 marks

UrsulaPandress · 12/06/2018 18:39

Erm. I doubt location was referring to the filmed version was it?

marmiteloversunite · 12/06/2018 19:05

Oh no Icouldbeknitting! So sorry that was an awful thing to happen to him. Is it the music paper on Monday. How did your DS do with his performance and composition? Hopefully some marks banked there?!

LoniceraJaponica · 12/06/2018 19:24

DD said chemistry (AQA) went OK.

Downeyhouse · 12/06/2018 19:39

Ds is doing a different qualification as we although we are British we live in Europe.

He came home saying that his 1 hr maths paper (worth 30%) yesterday was really hard.

Turns out 1/3 of it (so 10% of their total mark) was a question that was not on the syllabus!

Someone at the ram body has mucked up!

The various parent associations and teachers unions are up in arms and launching complaints. Let’s see what happens and if they discount that question!!

Downeyhouse · 12/06/2018 19:44

Exam not ram body!

FantasyAndHope · 12/06/2018 20:25

Just re-read your post knitting sorry about your DS
The worst has come, what we’ve both been dreading her period has come and she’s in a great deal of pain

littledrummergirl · 12/06/2018 20:27

Ds1 liked today's chemistry paper, he's been happy this afternoon. a bit different to the last biology- he's kicking himself that he made at least one silly mistake!
Next paper for him is Thursday.

Both Ds are starting to look past exams now, definitely on the home stretch.

Downey, I'm sorry to hear your news. Flowers

littledrummergirl · 12/06/2018 20:30

Knitting that's really difficult. Hopefully the school can explain to the exam board and ask for special consideration. Flowers

ifancyagreencard · 12/06/2018 20:51

Another meh exam for DD today . . . Dorian Gray and Little Stranger. She's quite subdued (v unusual) and already talking about Plan B if she doesn't get her grades.

History 2 tomorrow. As she thinks History 1 was a bit crap, it's an important day . . .

General feeling amongst the girls (all hard workers) is that their efforts may not be reflected in their grades this year.

Downey Flowers

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/06/2018 21:00

oh my goodness Downey!

Knitting, that's just really cruel. Your poor ds.

greencard I think it's going to be really hard to estimate grade boundaries this year. I hope your dd doesn't lose heart.

6 hours of cards raspberry? Shock you must be an expert by now!

Maths tomorrow S2.

knitting your poor ds Sad it must have been a horrific/paralysing 2 hours for him, he did very well to even stay there writing anything Sad It is also such a lonely place writing in an exam.

ursula no, I think he tried to focus on what was in the book having been warned not to talk about film versions and find relevant quotes, it was more that he was able to understand the question, ie that it was about settings and places and how they contribute. ie desolation in the arctic, monster's loneliness because he had watched the film (which he says is rubbish btw) and put two and two together. I think he talked about freedom in the mountains and Offred hiding in the cupboard/series of rooms where she is oppressed.

fantasy hope some very strong painkillers will get her through tomorrow and the History.

Nettleskeins · 12/06/2018 21:08

one hour equals 40 marks but that is only a proportion of overall marks, which is about 400 or something. So not 40 percent. Edexcel. Maybe Marmite will know.

UrsulaPandress · 12/06/2018 21:15

One hour for 40 marks and 2hours 15 mins for 60 marks seems a bit off kilter though.

Downeyhouse · 12/06/2018 21:15

Your Poor ds knitting. I can relate and feel extremely sorry for him.

My mom was terminally ill during my a levels and died a few days later.

It is so difficult to be a teen and struggling to do these very difficult exams whilst in the midst of grief.

I bombed my a levels but a wonderful admissions tutor let me keep my place despite barely passing.

I went on to get a 2.1 and have been lucky enough to now have a very well paid job in an international organization. All because she believed me. She told me at my graduation that she has lost her own mum as a teen and wanted to help me out.

I hope your son knitting will also find people along the way ready to give him a chance. I am sure he will prove himself at Uni and I wish him a very happy future.

FantasyAndHope · 12/06/2018 21:55

nettles
School have just rang, she has fainted Sad history is tomorrow is worrying her. She’s had naproxen and paracetamols and cannot have anything more.
She’s crippled she can’t go to the toilet at all
Very worried
downey
That seems tough, sorry to hear about your mum that must have been awful for you but you showed such resilience
greencard
Is your dd ocr?

raspberryrippleicecream · 12/06/2018 22:15

Knitting how absolutely awful. Your poor DS.

greencard I think we may have the same DD, though the books are different.

Good luck to all!

TheThirdOfHerName · 12/06/2018 22:21

knitting how unfortunate for your poor DS. Sad

marmiteloversunite · 12/06/2018 22:27

Oh Fantasy what a worry. Will tomorrow be a better day in her cycle? We were lucky enough to start contraception so that DD didn't have to deal with the sickness and cramps she normally gets but I know that your DD suffers much more.

There are so many other things that are happening in the kids lives as well as trying to revise etc. Even in this little group there are so many back stories which can affect the outcome of results.

I hope everyone who has had a bad day today feels even a little better tomorrow.

LoniceraJaponica · 12/06/2018 22:49

I just want to send good luck vibes to everyone for tomorrow and get well wishes to your DD Fantasy. Commiserations to everyone who has had a bad day today.

Apologies if I have missed anyone out as I am on my phone. I am as worried about all your DC as I am about DD.

likelyLilac · 12/06/2018 22:55

dd hated odays chemistry (ocr A) but she doesn't seem too upset by it.
Fantasy hope your dd is feeling better tomorrow! Periods are awful but I couldn't imagine having that sort of reaction to them, shes a brave soul for pushing through and going to school still!
dds periods are very stress sensative so she hasn't had her though it's been due for a while, she's said it means she has a build up of pms symptoms. She saw the advert for whinnie the pooh the other day and started full on blubbering!

FantasyAndHope · 12/06/2018 23:00

Her period will only get worse. Hopefully soon we will have the appointment to investigate further into what the cause is.
Dd has some Lucette pills although she gets very bad anxiety and hot sweats and migraines on the tablet. I think these symptoms are the lesser of the 2 evils. However, she has missed a night of revision. She said it’s not as severe now so plans to revise until 1 as it will worsen tomorrow.
Sad situation for her and I didn’t want this to occur...
lilac
Dd gets like that with her period too!

I sometimes wish she had done science subjects rather than essays Hmm

lashingsofgingerbeer · 12/06/2018 23:19

Knitting your poor DS reading that in his exam paper at such a terribly vulnerable stage right now. I do hope it gets taken into account by the exam board too.

Downey what a caring Admissions Tutor & thank goodness for people like her.

Fantasy totally agree with your comment about essay subjects! I hope your DD feels better tonight after fainting.

Hope tomorrow is kind to all your DC.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 13/06/2018 00:28

knitting that was really awful for your ds.

downey as it was so clearly a mistake hopefully the exam board will make adjustments since it mus affect everyone taking the paper.

fantasy your poor dd. I hope tomorrow is not as bad as she expects.

Dd's needs assessment was very good and very thorough but also very long and she was exhausted afterwards. I choose today as this is a light week exam wise but it has meant that she hasn't actually done any revision today so I feel quite guilty about that.
doistay we got the letter from SFE approving DSA within a week of applying. The assessment centre rang back to arrange an appointment the day after I applied. It might be worth chasing your application up.

UrsulaPandress · 13/06/2018 04:06

Another sleepless night. Too hot. Birds too noisy. Too much to worry about in the wee small hours.
