Downey I hope the exam goes well for your ds tomorrow, and I'll be thinking of you both in the evening when you're delivering the bad news about his friend Flowers

We've got 4 exams this week, but none tomorrow. Tuesday is physics (the one about practicals apparently), Wednesday is maths C3 (she's not worried about that one), Thursday is chemistry (physical and organic) and Friday is Maths C4 (not worried about that one either).

She's still got 3 more to do after that. One chemistry and 2 Maths (D1 and M2)

Good luck to everyone for this week!

LoniceraJaponica · 11/06/2018 06:29

DD's chemistry is tomortow (AQA)

LoniceraJaponica · 11/06/2018 06:29

Tomorrow

Icouldbeknitting · 11/06/2018 06:40

Good luck for everyone this week, some of you have a really exam heavy week ahead. I had forgotten how much of a slog GCSEs were. This time next week I will be cooking sausages for the last exam day, he only has one exam this week and it's a subject he likes so I'm hoping that it is a chilled week. He's spent the weekend revising (shock horror) and is going in for an optional revision session. Alien abduction is the only explanation.

I have bought a tin of masonry paint and am diverting myself painting the planters. I painted them Ground Force blue in 2002 and they were smart at the time but are looking tatty now.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 11/06/2018 06:56

Here we go again! And so another week starts. Porridge for comfort & substanance here.

Knitting 'alien abduction' Grin

Good luck everyone's DC.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/06/2018 07:08

morning all. 'Ground Force Blue' Grin

It was really hard to get out of bed this morning after my body first decided 4am was the correct time to wake up. So I was a bit surprised that dd woke up all bouncy.

Just two more mondays after this then that's school mornings done. It is awful to wish away time but goodness, these exam days are going slowly.

Biology today, Chemistry tomorrow and M2 on Friday...hopefully some revision has happened over the weekend, but I've not been here all of the
time to see it. Went to a 100th birthday party on Saturday, and spent several hours yesterday morning typing out algebra revision questions for DS2, who will be GCSEs next year, but is taking it very seriously.

Good luck to those who have exams today.

UrsulaPandress · 11/06/2018 07:42

No exam today, then English prose on Tuesday, History Italy on Wednesday, psychology on Thursday and romantic poetry on Friday. I think English prose might only be an hour long on Handmaid's and Frankenstein. Dd could probably write for hours on Handmaid's.

Good luck to everyone for the week ahead.

adrinkofwater · 11/06/2018 08:33

Biology this afternoon and Chemistry tomorrow for DD. Feeling very nervous (me not her!)

Also wondering if I've got my weeks muddled MsAwesomeDragon as that C3, Chemistry, C4 schedule of days is what I think DD has next week, not this week! Or it could be just different boards I guess??

Nettleskeins · 11/06/2018 08:39

yes, it is only an hour long (though ds gets 15 mins extra!! what a treat Hmm)
Inadvertently ds has touched on an aspect of Handmaid and Frankenstein that I hadn't considered, in amongst all that textual analysis. They are both adventure stories, "will she escape?" that sort of thing. Because he approaches everything from tv series point of view, the cliffhanger at the end is for him always an invitation to Series 2. He is not in slightest fazed [ph?] by flashbacks, they are bread and butter to his narrative experience (tv and film) but the idea of "letters" in Frankenstein has completely thrown him, the idea that someone might write a letter - seems quite odd to him, in fact he said Mum who ever heard of a novel with letters in it?

well, an education if nothing else.

Nettleskeins · 11/06/2018 08:44

I was discussing with him whether La La Land (his favourite film ever) 2 would be possible, and I think he is beginning to realise a work of art doesn't necessary need a sequel even if it ends like that, with a cliffhanger. Still, I wouldn't mind a La La Land 2, it is unbearable to think that's it!

Anyway, lots of housework and prodding to catch up on. I woke far too early, Ileft curtains open so I wouldn't miss the alarm for 6.45 or if it failed, but that was just too much too bright Shock

lashingsofgingerbeer · 11/06/2018 10:03

Nettles I too loved La, La Land & would like a sequel - in fact we could all do with a bit of La, La Land right now I think.

Clock watching tick-tock-tick-tock unbearable - must start doing some work!

NoHaudinMaWheest · 11/06/2018 11:22

Good luck to those with exams today and heavy weeks ahead.

Dd only has physics3 this week which gives her lots of time to revise. It never was her favourite paper and the difficulty of physics2 last week has thrown her even more.
(Repeat many times 'she only needs a B and would probably be ok with a C.)

Nettleskeins · 11/06/2018 12:58

Nohaudin it is a relief when the exams aren't back to back isn't it.

I cannot believe it, just when things were so peaceful we just had our first bust up between ds1 and ds2. Ds2's legs are hurting so I went to get some voltarrol, giving him strict instructions not to distub ds1 watching a particular programme which he watches once a week. And of course, just whilst I am out, ds cannot find the xbox controller which in my innocence I had tidied away (forgetting it controls the online telly) so he screams at ds2 who is lying on sunlounger after his biology having decided that ds2 has purposefully hidden it and then tips him off the sunlounger. Finallly he rings me up to ask where it is at whch point he apologises to ds2. Now both are in a sulk.

I cannot leave the house for one moment!!!! grrrr

HardwickWhite · 11/06/2018 13:05

Not a bad week for DD this week; only today and tomorrow. Next week is a killer though 4 (or possibly 5) exams, plus "clearance day" at school, where they need to clear their lockers and return any school text books they might have. Only the Stats paper the week after though. So much to get through, and yet I feel it will fly by!

She is very calm and breezy again today. Either she has learnt to mask very well, or the many hours of CBT are paying off. I hope for the latter!

FantasyAndHope · 11/06/2018 13:53

DD has had RS questions were nice but she wanted to write so much more but didn’t have the time. I told her 16 pages with double line spacing was good for 3 questions for 2 hours
She said there was a lot more she could have wrote. It seems that in RS 3 exams in 2 hours is quite hard.

English gothic tomorrow dd’s favourite. So she’s taken to revising history today.

Goodluck to everyone this week!

HesMyLobster · 11/06/2018 14:56

Drink DD has C3 and C4 next week too.

Nettles your DSs remind me so much of my own DBs when we were that age! Grin

Hardwick I'm so glad to hear your DD is calm so far, I really hope it continues

I love La La Land too - would be perfect to sit down and watch that tonight.(heavy day at work - exams for 6 year olds - don't get me started!) No chance of that though - I'll be dragged from one desk to the other all night testing on History and Chemistry! Hmm

Which History topic is your DD doing on Wednesday Fantasy?

Have I mentioned how glad I'll be when this week is over?!

FantasyAndHope · 11/06/2018 15:12

lobster
It’s early Stuart’s and origins of civil war. Dd hates it
She’s taken to realising there’s always a question on James and Charles so has just revised James really although they may do 2 questions on Charles she’s praying there’s one on James

NoHaudinMaWheest · 11/06/2018 15:50

Fantasy it sounds as if RS went well so that is a relief.

Hardwick glad that your dd seems calm and happy.

Hardwickwhite · 11/06/2018 15:57

On Biology “that was not a nice exam, but everyone said the same, so it’s ok”.

She looked exhausted, but you probably should by ALevel. I’m more concerned that her eyeliner is smudged which usually means she’s been stressed. Deep breath!

LoniceraJaponica · 11/06/2018 16:02

Which exam board has 4 chemistry exams?

DD is doing AQA and has 3 exams of 2 hours each.

likelyLilac · 11/06/2018 16:05

MsAwesomeDragon what exam board are her exams, dd is doing all the same subjects and exams but on different dates! worried I've got ours wrong now Confused

catslife · 11/06/2018 16:25

The new linear A level sciences are all 3 exams for the English exam boards i.e. AQA, OCR and Edexcel. If (which may be possible given her username) MsAwesomeDragon is welsh then WJEC (Welsh) A levels have 4 exams.

Gretol · 11/06/2018 16:51

Hi fantasy dd also had RS today and was really happy with it. I predicted business ethics would come up and it did so dd thinks I'm a genius Grin She also said some of her mates misread one of the questions as "can you define god?" when it was "can you define good?" Shock

She felt well enough to ride her horse after but is now flat out snoring on the sofa.

FantasyAndHope · 11/06/2018 16:56

Another update from dd, it didn’t go aswell as she thought nohaudin I’ve told her not to worry
She said she did the correct definition for hypoethical imperative wrote hypoethical then changed it for hypocatergorical imperative but it was hypoethical and I know she knew it because I tested her yesterday
Apparently as she defined catergorical imperative right they’ll see it as a spelling mistake
Also she thinks she didn’t mention ‘recta-reasoning’ but her A02 has gone well just not A01 but there’s 40% marks for A01 and 60% for A02
She’s just a little stress pit. It’s worrying with RS as know one knows how they’ll mark
Gretnol
I’ve seen a few tweets similar on twitter
It seems with RS kids panic
