Ah Ursula DD is considering going this year because of the lineup!

UrsulaPandress · 16/02/2018 21:12

Apparently twitter was alight with complaints.

raspberryrippleicecream · 16/02/2018 21:15

Yes I think DD is in a minority. If I've listened right its Panic! at the Disco and Fallout Boy that is the appeal to DD.

On the other hand, the loos might stay ok if there is no-one else there!

MsAwesomeDragon · 16/02/2018 21:26

I commiserate with all of you dealing with 2 year age gaps. That was me and my siblings (I'm in the middle), for quite a long time we all had exams at the same time (my brother stayed at home for uni too, so we had a GCSE, A level, 2nd year uni combo going). I have avoided all this by having a 10 year age gap Grin, although I'm not looking forward to dd2's teenage years as she seems more highly strung than dd1 ever was.

LoniceraJaponica · 16/02/2018 21:33

She is going again this year but I've no use why as the line up is pants. Apparently.

In DD's opinion it is better than last year. She is planning on going this year, but probably only for the day. The camping is grim.

raspberryrippleicecream your DD has a similar music taste to my DD Grin

Nettleskeins · 16/02/2018 21:57

DoIstay I only know that a friend's daughter had an offer from Oxbridge last year, missed her offer by two grades getting ABB and was rejected by Birmingham (who previously had given her unconditional, but obviously she had to make it her insurance as she had an Oxbridge offer) despite their conditional being AAB (only one grade more than she got) But that was for a very popular humanities subject beginning with E. But actually it didn't matter as she went to another RG she liked even better than Birmingham, via Clearing...to do a different subject than E...

Ds is in a very good mood now. He says he is writing an essay for his tutor who he is seeing tomorrow. The one who is teaching him Point Evidence Explanation or whatever that means. In between deciding who is going to win the Baftas.

Ds has never been to a Music Festival Blush There is a local one this year, and Reading is not far, but it has always seemed too scary without a group to go with. I think dd is going to get there before him, she is demanding a ticket to go with a large group. But we are saying stay local first, and then only day ticket to Reading next year.

MrSlant · 16/02/2018 22:09

Two year gap is doing my head in right now! Added in with the youngest being scared of his shadow and starting secondary in September I thank the lord for gin most nights. I'll have had 15 years of primary school come the end of this school year and be starting my second 7 year stretch of secondary. I wasn't thinking ahead at all. Got told today orangutang have a 7 year gap between children so they raise one completely before having another. The idea appeals.

Still half term starting today and I'm looking forward to watching the winter olympics spending time with my gang. Then Bangor and crunch decision time making our his choice.

Lucycat · 16/02/2018 22:36

raspberryrippleicecream my DD is also v excited by the Leeds lineup as FOB and PATD are playing amongst lots of other pop punk bands that she loves ( and interviews!) She is also going to Slamdunk in Leeds in May.
She is sitting on an Oxford offer, an unconditional from Birmingham and Lancaster and her beloved Leeds who need the same grades as Oxford.

Nothing firmed yet.. just sleep over half term I think

Nettleskeins · 16/02/2018 22:46

Lucy - the other piece of information that my friend with daughter who did not get into Oxbridge due to dropped grades...the RG unis like Leeds often want you even more if you are an Oxbridge miss, as long as you mention this fact when you ring up and ask for waiver on August 17, again another reason why they let you in with dropped grade. Indeed Oxford itself might let you in with a dropped grade if there is a good reason for it (ie very near boundary) So if your daughter really likes Leeds she should go for it. We need to look on last year's threads on results day don't we??Hmm But a uni like Birmingham handing out all those unconditionals, will be full up already with all their unconditional offers on results day and not have room for dropped grade candidates/not need them.

LoniceraJaponica · 16/02/2018 22:47

DD didn't like the Slamdunk lineup this year. I think we will be going to Sheffield food festival between revision sessions. It is less time hungry than Slamdunk.

What subject is your DD hoping to do Lucycat?

TheSecondOfHerName · 16/02/2018 22:58

DS1 isn't overwhelmed by the headliners at Reading, but there are other bands he likes playing on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so he'll probably go.

TheSecondOfHerName · 16/02/2018 23:00

His favourite bands are Nothing But Thieves and Slaves and similar.

UrsulaPandress · 16/02/2018 23:04

Dd likes Kendrick Lamar, Drake, ASAP Rocky and Eminem and the like.

Hmm
Lucycat · 17/02/2018 08:41

LoniceraJaponica DD is looking to read English- she prefers the flexibility (and modernity !) of the course at Leeds but the College that she has her offer from at Oxford is so 'her' in its ethos. She seems to think that it's just luck that she was made an offer. She's no idea how amazing she is.

Interesting about the Leeds info re dropped grades, she's on target to do really well and works 'smart' as well as v hard but we shall see. Ultimately it's up to her which is so hard for a 17 year old.
Lots of gigs to fit in before exams though 🙄

TheDrsDocMartens · 17/02/2018 08:58

Lost you all, thought you were quiet.

starfleet · 17/02/2018 10:31

DS is moaning still that he is missing Wireless as all his favourite artists are playing. He went to Leeds last year with a group of friends and enjoyed the experience.

He's not sure about Leeds this year as he isn't too impressed with the line up "I don't know if the ticket price is worth seeing only a few of the bands that I like".

Kendrick Lamar might swing it for him even though he went to see him last weekend.

spababe · 17/02/2018 16:41

I'm not a frequent poster but I'm here waves

I have a 2 year gap also with one DC doing A levels and Uni application and one DC doing GCSEs and a super selective 6th form application which will depend on results if he gets an offer.

Eldest DC has been to 2 applicant days and has 2 more to go which are his favourite 2 and probably the ones he will keep as his firm and insurance but we will decide after the applicant days.

starfleet · 17/02/2018 16:51

My sister and I both left for Uni the same summer. There is a year between us - I had to do an extra year at the local college after A Levels to complete an art foundation course before I could go and she went after A Levels. My poor mother was distraught.

Justeatthepotato · 17/02/2018 17:38

Hello, been lurking and thought I’d dive in as the nerves (mine!) are now well and truly kicking in! I also have the two year age gap with one in year 13 and one in year 11. DD1 (year 13) has hit a slump recently and lost some motivation, which is worrying. She has five good offers and has been to two offer holder days so far which has resulted in her crossing one off the list and wanting to firm the other. But the one she wants to firm is her lowest offer. I worry that she wants to take the easier option as it allows her to maintain her lack of effort so far Hmm

madnskint · 17/02/2018 17:40

DD has just applied for student finance- all offers are in. She just needs to get the grades now.

On the subject of festivals DD who has never been to a festival has chosen to this year go to a festival in Budapest as her first one!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2018 17:45

it's lovely to see the lurkers and occasional posters posting, welcome :)

I dunno what dd is doing in the summer. It's hard to see past the exams I think. Normally we are so organised that it feels a bit odd but if she ends up dossing around that's ok, she did a nuffield placement for much of last summer.

@flatmouse Did you check whether the email went into your spam folder? I can't think of anything else it could be, but I'm new to this tagging lark myself!

justeat welcome! You'll be in good company here!

Welcome back spababe and DocMartens

starfleet DD is desperate to go to Wireless but didn't get a ticket on the day they came out because she didn't have the money and then they were all sold out. She thinks the line-up is better for SW4 than Reading, but only knows a couple of people going to SW4 whereas loads of her friends are going to Reading.

Justeatthepotato · 17/02/2018 17:52

DD went to Reading last year. It was grim by all accounts Envy she woke up to the sound and smell of a girl vomiting on her tent!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2018 17:52

chocolate, we should have had you start the thread. You are being a much better host than me!
