All this talk of the amount your DC's are doing is stressing me...I still can't see any evidence of DS doing any revision, and his mocks are this week, first proper exam in a month Shock He had two Maths mocks yesterday, and said they were harder than he thought...great thought I, maybe he'll realise now that he needs to do some work. But no, apparently it's okay because everyone thought they were hard and he finds Maths the hardest anyway, so his conclusion is he still doesn't need to do any work for the other subjects. And he still hasn't firmed his uni choice. I could scream Hmm

UrsulaPandress · 17/04/2018 07:36

Gosh that's late for mocks.

FantasyAndHope · 17/04/2018 11:07

kitten
They do have a lot expected of them and it’s sad in a time where mental health crises are higher than ever especially in young people

Last night dd had some issues on social media with the girls in her year, reported to HOS nothing has being done Confused

Dd has rang to say she’s vomiting and has stomach cramps and has Had a severe reaction to new medication, currently waiting for a gp call back
All she can think about is the work she should be doing and she won’t listen to me saying it’s fine don’t worry

marmiteloversunite · 17/04/2018 11:55

Fantasy how horrible for your DD and worrying for you. I hope she feels better as the day goes on.

marmiteloversunite · 17/04/2018 11:57

So I have taken back the gold sequinned number this morning and found a really pretty dress to bring home for DD to try. What's the betting she hates it?!!

FantasyAndHope · 17/04/2018 12:37

marmite
Dd is just fed up I think

On a brighter note she has history coursework back and it’s a grade B, 4 marks off an A and if she sorts the referencing out it could go up. So dd when feeling better is going to go and speak to the teacher of how to improve etc?

marmiteloversunite · 17/04/2018 12:53

That's great Fantasy! We haven't had the dreaded history coursework back yet.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/04/2018 21:02

That's really good news about the History Fantasy!

puppypower1 · 17/04/2018 23:11

Well done Fantasy's DD. Great news.

TheSecondOfHerName · 18/04/2018 07:19

doistayordoigo he sounds like DS1.
Don't worry, the people on this thread have a range of DCs, from the conscientious and organised to the other end of the spectrum.

doistayordoigo · 18/04/2018 07:30

Second DS is definitely at the other end of the spectrum! I assumed he was revising all last night as he has two maths mocks today, went in to see say goodnight when we went to bed at 11.30, no evidence of any books etc, so I asked if he'd done any revision. Answer? No, because I don't have any exams tomorrow! Erm, yes you do!? He insisted he didn't. I produced the google calendar (on the laptop he'd been sat looking at all night!) and showed him the two maths exams. He said it must be wrong, he'd checked his exam timetable, produced the timetable and then realised I was right. So two exams today and presumably no revision done for them at all. It's a good job I asked him last night or he wouldn't even have gone to the exam room this morning Hmm But apparently I interfere too much and I should just leave him alone. I despair Sad

chocolateworshipper · 18/04/2018 13:51

doistay - being a parent means you can do no right!

Update on DD:
Subject one: signed off although teacher hasn't finished marking the last unit, so she's sitting at 5 Distinctions out of 6 units.
Subject two: 5 Distinctions out of 6 units. She needs to finish the last unit (despite promises to herself that she'd get it all done over Easter)
Subject three: 2 Distinctions out of 3 units. At early stages of unit 3.

catslife · 18/04/2018 14:03

Congratulations to chocolate and fantasy's dds.
No more teaching in Graphics for dd now as the Art studio is all set up for the exams. Students are taking the exams spread out over several days to allow them to attend as many other lessons as possible.
Am not sure what revision/preparation is supposed to happen before Art exams. dd has managed to choose 3 subjects none of which require conventional revision!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/04/2018 14:08

crumbs doistay. Keep on the ball through the exams at least! Then set your ds free after. Good job you are keeping track of stuff.

Chocolate, your dd is doing amazingly!

FantasyAndHope · 18/04/2018 17:54

Thanks all! Hopefully she can boost it up to an A before Friday
Still ill and not attending school, very tired and no energy to work
I’m starting to get a little worried for her
Well done chocolate
doistay
That’s sounds like dd a little

Nettleskeins · 18/04/2018 18:05

Ds1 suddenly announced that one of his mock exams had come back at a low B! Praise heaven. Not holding out much hope for the English mock though, we had much the same as you DoIstay anything but revise and then start revising only to realise the depths of ignorance, then rapidly abandon attempts as hopeless...take exam and come out saying he blagged it..

It is the most beautiful day here, hot sunny, I'm having mostly happy flashbacks to all the summers I spent revising on my parents' lawn..or uni lawns, the cool of the examination halls after the bright sunlight outside, that odd feeling when all normal classes suspended and it all rides on a few hours supercharged genius! Ds is complaining he is too hot already. I tried to talk to him about "pressing the button" but he said he was too tired and too busy to think about it..oh dear

TeresasGreen · 19/04/2018 09:20

So, though I thought we had DD ready to decide on firm and insurance, she said this morning that she is still not sure, and wants to do a "pros and cons" spreadsheet. I give up. If she choses her "second" as her favourite, she won't really have a choice, because her "first" is a slightly higher offer, and she has discounted the other offers for various reasons.

Just click on the bloody button!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/04/2018 09:41

I'd forgotten about those days Nettle, revising on the grass, with the insects humming and everything feeling a little sleepy.

Once they have (finally, hooray!) pressed the button, what happens next?

OP posts:
marmiteloversunite · 19/04/2018 09:59

Kitten I think it is student finance next and then looking at accommodation.

Nettleskeins · 19/04/2018 10:23

teresa ds suddenly started saying he prefers the "other one" as well. I think the offer grades are completely distorting in his mind where he actually wants to go. He keeps thinking the more difficult offer is automatically preferable, just because it is higher (a status issue?) whereas in fact the lower offer might be a better bet for him.
And suddenly he has lost confidence that he might make the cardiff offer at all, so I cannot determine whether he even wants to go there if he DID make the offer.

It is a bit like choosing a life partner perhaps, when you are presented with three suitors at once, one has a flat, one doesn't but might make lots of money, one is incredibly attractive - who on earth do you choose, let alone which one makes you laugh...and lives round the corner..Hmm It really is absurd. I have no idea, ds has no idea, all the choices are good, but all have cons...

Nettleskeins · 19/04/2018 10:27

I've suggested we go back on this lovely sunny weekend and visit even just one of his choices just to "see" how he feels on his second visit. Nope, not budging, don't have time mum, I'm working. I think he wants to just leap and not think too much, possibly even toss a coin...

I'm panicking and feeling he should be round the corner Hmm a hour a way. so tempting to push that choice. But then..Yorkshire will be so wonderful...I know nothing about it, but what an adventure for him...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/04/2018 13:13

Thanks marmite. Finance is sorted. Phew and her first choice don't do accommodation until after results. Her second choice only let you do accommodation if you've firmed with them.

Sometimes, I've had to tell myself when struggling with a difficult choices that that means there is no perfect choice therefore. Somehow it takes the pressure off me to get it right then.

When I was a student I listed all the things that were important to me and assigned a score for each uni for each one and the uni with the biggest score won.

ds has decided on Oxford Brookes. Dh is taking him there again on Sunday, as there is a big Book Fair on the premises. All I can say is...it has been a long road to deciding and we could have decided about three months ago when he first received the unconditional, but it is better to decide after lots of humming and haahing and know you have weighed things up properly.

at least if he bails out we will be only two hours away door to door, by public transport no less! only a hour if he ever learns to drive.

Nettleskeins · 19/04/2018 18:42

We finally sat him down in the garden shed, lots of snacks and he talked himself through the issues, and admitted he was very unsure about making the Cardiff grades.

HesMyLobster · 19/04/2018 19:18

Ah that's brilliant Nettles so glad he's decided!

No accommodation until after results for DD's first choice either. She has been having a look online at the different options and has decided which she'd most like to go for. Not sure how much chance she has of getting what she wants though.

I have ordered and paid for her yearbook today! I had no idea the school did them until I received an email.
I always wished we had yearbooks here when I was a teenager watching American movies!
