marmite if it makes you feel better ds1's music teachers (who have clearly only just graduated from uni by the looks of it, one has a nose ring) wear quite unsuitable clothes for concerts. Think Amadeus!!
I wish ds1 even wanted to wear something unsuitable, I am waiting for his fashion sense to kick in.

We have dd's prom dress saga to come. My sister is taking her to Debenhams with 16 year old nephew in tow to give advice hopefully this will diffuse the mother daughter dress confrontations.

UrsulaPandress · 15/04/2018 19:22

DD announced earlier that she didn't want to go back to sixth form. I pointed out it's the beginning of the end of this phase of her life and to get on with it.

Over the top.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/04/2018 19:23

Such a milestone Catslife. Happy Birthday to your dd and to you too.

Ds is 18 in a few days. Chocolate similar feelings although I know you have been through much more than us, for me it is mixture of panic that anything should happen to him and longing that something [good of course] should happen to give him the chance to move forward and become independent. It is difficult to explain how time consuming it is to be so involved with them, but in a way do nothing, they have to do whatever needs to be done, themselves.

I am feeling a bit like those documentaries of coastal birds teaching their fledglings to fly where they lead them to the edge of a cliff and persuade them to jump off.

Nettleskeins i was just worried if she actually tried to sing or play the violin in the dress she would be exposing herself! This is a child who wears sports clothes, hardly brushes her hair and never wears make up. I don't think she is quite ready for fishtail dresses with sequins! But what do I know?!Smile

marmiteloversunite · 15/04/2018 20:21

Ursula perhaps not going back is a way not to face the reality of the last term and exams? Probably most of them feel that way. Might need to get in some extra Gin

UrsulaPandress · 15/04/2018 20:31

That and not wanting to get up early!

raspberryrippleicecream · 15/04/2018 20:49

At DD's school the sixth formers wear school uniform for music concerts. Black trousers, white shirt, school tie. (They don't wear it everyday). They introduced a blazer this year, and a school skirt but year 11 up don't have these.

There was a suggestion the handful of sixthformers in the bands should buy blazers when the school took part in the local music festival last month, but strangely parents weren't keen!

DD's 18th birthday also approaching here.

raspberryrippleicecream · 15/04/2018 20:51

There is also no Y13 prom. They do have 'formal' next December , presentation of GCSE/Alevel certificates in the Cathedral followed by a dance/band.

marmiteloversunite · 15/04/2018 21:09

Raspberry it is an upper sixth leavers concert where all of the musicians perform a solo piece. They are allowed to wear a dress rather than the normal black skirt and white shirt concert uniform. Some years are really dressy and other years more smart casual so getting the balance right is difficult. I was thinking a pretty cocktail dress rather than full on Shirley Bassey. Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/04/2018 21:18

We still don't have any info about prom. It's a bit odd.

dd freezes every time she realises it's near the end now. She's so happy at college.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/04/2018 22:09

Fortunately as I'm a bit crippled I can't go. DH is accompanying her. He's had to buy a new suit. Thank goodness I don't have to compete with the 'school mummies'.

UrsulaPandress · 15/04/2018 22:26

I mean I could go but too much walking and standing for me. The Palace is not being disablist.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/04/2018 22:29

that's a shame, you'd be able to compare ailments with Prince Philip Grin

That's a real achievement Ursula. My DH still reminisces about getting his Dof E award at the palace. He took his Nan who dined out on that for months afterwards. Bless her.

UrsulaPandress · 15/04/2018 23:44

It is in the gardens. The invitation advises sun cream or a brolly depending on the weather forecast. I've told dd I'll get her one of those rain hats my gran used to have.

derekthe1adyhamster · 16/04/2018 07:03

That is so exciting pandress!
D'S had his 18th last week. A friend made a huge cake for him. We're eating cake for breakfast in an attempt to get through it all!
Took DS back to School last night. It 's getting scarily close to the end of an era. Tools him to make sure he has fun this term (as well as working hard) hopefully his GF won't make this too difficult for him
