I hope your answer was something like "C - it's always C in multiple choice questions"

Nettleskeins · 08/04/2018 23:22

I read a very interesting book once about Nazi Germany which described the systematic dismantlement of the legislature as being an important part of the control Hitler had. So not the army but the laws. Although possibly the judiciary were also being given their "orders" so I suppose it is chicken and egg.

Ds has asked me to wake him at 9.30 tomorrow Shock We were a bit more hardline this evening and offered him no supper as he clearly was refusing to be a member of the household by staying in bed all day..He still seems very cheery though, perhaps he just loves the peace and quiet of home Hmm

UrsulaPandress · 10/04/2018 13:39

You'd slipped off my TIO again.

English coursework needs 400 words shaving but then ready to go. Teacher thinks it should be an A.

History coursework now at nearly 2000 words..............

chocolateworshipper · 10/04/2018 13:53

I'm glad that BTECs don't have a minimum/maximum word count. For one subject, DD's teacher kept telling her that he was confused because the course guidance told him that the answer would normally be of X pages long, but DD had managed to cover all of the criteria in less pages. He clearly hadn't looked at her GCSE English grade.

FantasyAndHope · 10/04/2018 18:53

Dd has to hand English coursework in today she’s got to do it tonight
Instead of doing it today she went on a date with a boy Hmm

UrsulaPandress · 10/04/2018 21:01

I feel your pain. DD stayed at the boyfriend's last night, then today we had a trip to Dunelm for a new quilt. She is working now but I'm not convinced it's enough. Sigh.

TeresasGreen · 10/04/2018 23:07

DD seems to be hitting her stride! She has been working on maths both at home and at the coffee shop with a friend. They’ve been working through a PowerPoint set of Qs set my their teacher, and she got cross today when her friend wanted to stop after 3hrs. Better than that she went to the cinema tonight with a small group of friends.

Both these things are a big positive step for her, and I am increasingly optimistic she might be well enough to go to uni this year.

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/04/2018 23:16

You dropped off my tio again.

I was away on a school trip last week, so dd was left to her own devices all week. Dh was still here, but he was at work so didn't see much of her. She worked 2 days, then she tells me she did past papers the rest of the time. I'm not convinced, but she's old enough to do what needs to be done on her own. I'm taking a big step back.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/04/2018 23:31

That's good news Teresa :)

I fear we may need to send our girls to a convent Ursula and Fantasy. dd is also being distracted by a lad at the moment. It's amazing how flexible a revision timetable can suddenly become...

HesMyLobster · 11/04/2018 00:47

That's brilliant news Teresa, I'm so glad for her, and for you.

I almost wish DD would be a bit more sociable - she didn't really see friends over the whole of the holidays apart from the few who work at the same place.

Her best friend has got quite serious with a boyfriend and suddenly has no free time (she used to be round here most evenings after school) which I think she's finding tough. That's the problem I suppose when they rely too heavily on one friendship.
At least she's getting revision done.

And no need for convents at the moment thank goodness - DD is "talking" to a boy but luckily unfortunately he lives about 3 hours away so the chances of them seeing much of each other over the next few weeks are slim!

UrsulaPandress · 11/04/2018 08:04

Dd doesn't really see much of her friends. They talk all the time on snapchat or whatever but they don't hang out together like I did way back when. A few went out for a meal the other evening but dd and several others turned down the invitation to study instead.

Oh dear OYBBK. Now is not the best time for a blossoming romance is it!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/04/2018 08:10

Not really! Still, what can you do....

OP posts:
FantasyAndHope · 11/04/2018 09:34

kitten
She seems happy and it doesn’t seem like the last relationship
He’s a year older than her dd is 19 and he’s 20 he’s at uni and he paid for her drinks yesterday and they had a good chat about politics and Brexit

TheSecondOfHerName · 11/04/2018 09:42

TeresasGreen that sounds really positive

DS1 is capable of being organised and motivated when it comes to his social life and booking tickets for gigs and festivals (he had managed to book tickets to two festivals where Arctic Monkeys are playing, even before they announced their UK tour).

When it comes to his academic work, he is beginning to get there; he created a revision timetable yesterday.

There is still work to be done with getting him to take responsibility for his own health (remembering repeat prescriptions, keeping track of doctors' appointments). He hates making phone calls and has a tendency to bury his head in the sand. If he wants to go to university in September (and stay well while he's there), he needs to work on this.

starfleet · 11/04/2018 13:28

DS was at a gig on Sunday night and then went to London yesterday for the day with a friend.

Other than that he has been revising and finally pressed the button for his university choices. Just waiting to hear back so he can apply for accommodation.

Nettleskeins · 11/04/2018 13:38

ds is asleep...zzzzzz
he's been playing a lot of chess with ds2..hmm
and discussing Daniel Day Lewis films with me...hmm

the twins are revising... I heard this weird sort of mumbling from the playroom and ds2 was listening to the hypnotic tones of some science revision video. He is using paperclips!! to sort things into sections...

Ds1 is sitting in a sea of paper watching the Walking Dead..Confused by contrast..

Littledrummergirl · 11/04/2018 23:00

Ds1 and I went to an offer holders day today which confirmed his decision. He has now firmed his offer! Shock

It's really happening isn't it? Now to look at accommodation.

I'm so glad romance is off his radar at the moment - he met up with some of his NCS group from a couple of years ago on Saturday and is slightly shocked that one of the girls is now a parent. It seems a world away from his own choices but like a good mum I gave him the contraception talk again.

TeresasGreen · 12/04/2018 08:37

I’m just about to head off to offer holders day with DD. Did you try to keep apart from your DS Littledrummer? DD has based some of her decisions so far on the people she has interacted with. I’m torn between wanting to hold her hand (she has massive social anxiety amongst other MH problems) and needing her to figure out if these are people she will be happy with for the next 5 years.

marmiteloversunite · 12/04/2018 08:57

Teresa my DD1 went by herself for offer days but I totally understand about the social anxiety as DD2 has that. DD1 tried to concentrate on the general feel of the place and the lecturers/course because the other students might not end until going to that university. Also good to talk to students already in the course if possible.

catslife · 12/04/2018 13:31

dd now back at college after the Easter holidays. She needed a break (and so did all of us).
I think I mentioned a few months ago about the death of our dog. We now have a new puppy who is sixth months old and full of energy!
We really need to fill this thread as dd starts her first exams in 2 weeks time so a lot more than half way through Y13 now!

UrsulaPandress · 12/04/2018 15:40

Sorry but I don't believe you about the puppy. Need a photo to prove it
......

MsAwesomeDragon · 12/04/2018 15:49

Photos to prove the puppy exists. That's a very good idea Ursula!!!

2 weeks seems very early for exams to start. It's all getting real again isn't it? Dd starts hers mid May. She turned down the opportunity to visit cousins today in order to revise. Physics past papers today apparently. Then chemistry past papers tomorrow and maths at the weekend.

flatmouse · 12/04/2018 15:53

DS college is putting up exam preparedness messages on FB - including how all subjects will have a 6 week plan to ensure students are best prepared. I'm hoping that 6 week plan includes finishing all the outstanding topics/modules!

raspberryrippleicecream · 12/04/2018 15:58

DD still juggling revision with English and History coursework. DS1 has been home from uni, also doing revision for 2nd year exams so its been a very quiet Easter.

She is going off to an offer holders day next week so hopefully will then make a decision. She will have to soon anyway!

She is also 18 in couple of weeks and was very excited to get a polling card for her first election at the beginning of May

catslife · 12/04/2018 16:15

The exam in 2 weeks is an Art practical exam. These are earlier than the written exams. There is also a controlled assessment for the health and social care A level that has to be finished by 5th May.
