This is the first time that I have posted a photo on MN but here is a photo of the new puppy.

Nice puppy Grin

UrsulaPandress · 12/04/2018 16:35

History coursework rather than revision being done here.

At least English is all but done.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/04/2018 17:07

awww, puppy :)
Yes we do need to fill this thread.

One month before dd has her first of many papers. I'm starting to feel anxious about it and life in general. Insomnia is kicking in again.

Gorgeous puppy. 😍

DDs visit day today mentioned that they have had therapets visit this year. It hadn’t really occurred to me till then that she may really miss our menagerie. Especially her 15 year old cat, who uses a special mew when he ‘talks’ to her.

TheSecondOfHerName · 12/04/2018 18:27

V.cute puppy.

TheSecondOfHerName · 12/04/2018 18:31

DS1 is more worried about missing the cat that any of the humans in the family. He has asked if it'll be possible for the cat to Skype him.

Icouldbeknitting · 12/04/2018 19:00

DS wants a cat and I did briefly consider filling the house with kittens in an attempt to brighten his life. We talked about it and that I thought he would be upset by "his" cat thinking it was my cat after his four years away. He's going to wait until he can have a cat of his own which is good because I have no cat experience at all.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/04/2018 19:58

dd is going to miss our cats terribly, especially the one closest to her. They will miss her too. I'll have to put a sheet or something over her bed to cope with the cat hairs.

Teresa, yes I tried to seperate myself from him but he was more than happy to stay near me.
He saw a few people he knew from summer school who will hopefully be starting the course with him so chatted to them a bit.
I would also hold back at times so that he could speak to the students. This seemed to work well.
He is very happy and had all of his questions answered which was the point for us.
I'm happy because I think he is going to be happy. Smile

Aww, the pets are so cute. Bear

TeresasGreen · 12/04/2018 20:55

The visit went very well. They did the parents and DC separately in the afternoon, which was perfect. They had one to one chats as well as a tour and coffee and biscuits with the faculty before home time.

She met a boy again who has had exactly the same offers as her, and the same rejection, and it really cheered her up. She had met him at interview day for one of the other offers, and has come it seems to similar conclusions.

A good day!

UrsulaPandress · 12/04/2018 20:59

DD goes away. The horse goes back to his owner. Which will I miss most?

Nettleskeins · 12/04/2018 21:58

we have three cats, all between ages of 5 and 9. Ds is fond of them but in a rather detached way, whereas they drape themselves over dd's bedroom at every opportunity. Ds's bedroom was so terrible at one stage they took to peeing on his long drapey curtains(no doubt presuming them to be some sort of flowerbed), which absolutely served him right..I then washed them and they are now rather short.

knitting a kitten now for you ? I had my first cat - a sixth month old rescue (my very own cat) when I was 22, we had family cats before though, but never kittens oddly enough. My first kitten was when I was 42 and dd was 7 And then a sibling pair later on. The siblings get on very well, but they don't get on particularily well with the older cat. Honestly every morning I am happy to see them, jumping around the garden, lying in the oddest places (they love cardboard boxes and laundry baskets, or failing that piles of laundry..) The oldest cat stands sentinel in the street sitting on neighbour's cars and generally making friends with passersby (lots of schoolchildren pass) The youngest is currently lying on the floorboard under which the hot water pipes runs Smile

Nettleskeins · 12/04/2018 22:06

Teresa oh how I wish ds would meet some lovely girl to discuss his offers with Hmm I suspect I am not going to hear much about his social life at any point, if he finds any he is going to keep it very private. He gets terribly bashful.

Having a very frustrating time watching (or should I say spying) on ds revise. I finally could bear it no longer and took two thick printouts that school had provided on the set books back in Year 12 out of the bookcase where I had neatly put them back in category about six months ago (and hadn't been touched since), and waved them at ds, saying you do realise you have to READ THESE, THEY HAVE ALL THE INFORMATION. WHY DON@T YOU LOOK THROUGH WHAT YOU MISSED OUT IN TODAY@S EXAM??? no response. eerugh.. other than that he has been very pleasant and helpful doing errands and chores for me etc, we had visitors this evening.

MsAwesomeDragon · 12/04/2018 22:27

We don't have dogs or cats, although I would love a dog. Dd will be thrilled to leave the Guinea pigs behind as she won't be expected to share any crunchy veg (they squeak like mad if she dares to eat an apple or a carrot. I want to turn her room into a walk in Guinea pig herd, dh days I've got to leave it so she can come home occasionally 😉🤔

Apparently dd got somewhat distracted from her revision today, but has done a couple of papers.

Littledrummergirl · 12/04/2018 22:53

MSD that sounds like ds1. He wants a room in his house dedicated to Cavies complete with outside run.

I think if he finds a partner she will have to love animals!
Grin

Icouldbeknitting · 12/04/2018 22:57

When we had guinea pigs they lived in the dining room where they learned to listen for the fridge door opening. Their veg lived in the salad drawer and the opening of the fridge was therefore an exciting event that needed much wheeping. They moved on to squeaking whenever I turned the kettle on because they worked out that the kettle came just before the fridge door. I was only going in there for the milk...

HesMyLobster · 13/04/2018 00:15

Ahhh loving all the pet talk, and especially the pet photos!
Cats your puppy is adorable! Those eyes!!

We have a 10yr old beagle who is like an indulged younger child in our house - everybody dotes on him and he's very spoilt. He's taken to sleeping in DD1's room and hanging out there with her while she studies. Perhaps because she seems to be the person most often in the house but also I think maybe he knows she's going soon.
It also might be because our 17 year old cat passed away a few months ago and DD was definitely "her" human and she misses her horribly, so the dog is maybe offering comfort.

I did consider a kitten for DD's birthday next month, but I decided the same as you Knitting, best she waits til she can have one that's really all hers now.

DD's first exam is French speaking on 3rd May, so only a couple of weeks away now, then she has her Latin GCSE exams the following 2 weeks and then the rest of them start with a vengeance.
It's feeling very close.

Icouldbeknitting · 13/04/2018 06:54

I have thought about getting a dog to fill the house from September but I thought I ought to wait to see what sort of a life I have then. If I'm going to be out and about then it wouldn't be fair to get one.

UrsulaPandress · 13/04/2018 08:03

The dog will be my only solace come September, but they are very tying but a bringer of joy

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/04/2018 08:05

That's so sweet knitting! I loved the guineas we had, but they lived outside.

Sometimes I've thought about getting a dog, but they are quite a tie aren't they. I'd hate not to be able to go out for a long day without worrying about them. I'd have to have one that came everywhere with me, which would mean there were lots of places I couldn't go.

OP posts:
puppypower1 · 13/04/2018 09:17

We've got 2 dogs. Couldn't be without them. They bring such joy. 🐶🐶

Still waiting for decisions to be made.....although one uni reached out (via a final year student) to answer any questions about the course, uni life etc, which has been v helpful (and positive in DS's mind) - better than the poster received from another of his uni choices!

I now have a strong opinion on what he should do......and am trying to keep it to myself! Grin

MsAwesomeDragon · 13/04/2018 09:20

knitting our gps live in the dining room too and have learnt to squeak at the sound of the back door (someone will have brought them cut grass), dh's voice (because he's a soft touch who will bring them treats whenever they squeak) and any noise whatsoever from the kitchen (because while you're there you may as well being us some salad). I love them dearly but they are very demanding 😁

I would love a dog, but I know we don't live the right lifestyle to have one. We are all out of the house 8-6 on a weekday which is longer than I would want to leave a dog.

raspberryrippleicecream · 13/04/2018 09:42

DD is intending to fill a house with cats and dogs as soon as she has a house of her own, she has wanted either/both for years. I am

She has had hamsters. Sadly the second of her pair of dwarves passed away this week. She won't get any more now because of going away.

Though DH had a hamster at uni (second year). Apparently he used to take it to his Auntie's on the back of his motorbike for the holidays as it was much nearer than home.

catslife · 13/04/2018 14:28

Pleased you like the puppy.
dd burst into tears of joy when she first saw him. He needs to be careful though as trying to chew her slippers etc may reduce his popularity.
Puppy now asleep on my knee as I type this post.
We are going to beginners dog training which is hilarious. It basically works by positive reinforcement i.e treats (food) when the puppy behaves the way you want.
Am not sure if there is an equivalent for teens and revision.
