It seems i'm the first. So this is me...

I'm 26 and have 3 girls aged 5, nearly 4 and nearly 1.

DH is in the navy and we are currently living on a married patch in redruth, cornwall. Though not for much longer. Due to the serious mining issues on the estate we are having to look for SSAFA (private rented in Redruth.

DH works on the Merlin's (helicopters) at culdrose and is an LAET.

Anybody else out there?

I don't want to be snotty, but could we avoid using the phrase "Navy widow" etc please? I know too many real ones

iesha · 20/06/2007 10:55

wabbit, I see what you mean, never thought of that. I also call myself the sky dive widow and that seems too real sometimes. I just hope I never have to live up to the name.

Is Dishforth in North Yorkshire? We were at Linton-on-Ouse for a bit and loved it. York is an amazing city. It was pre children though so not sure I can be much help. I did have dd1 at the York District Hospital though and they were wonderful. Had a water birth there. V good midwives, at least they were 4 years ago.
We moved to Cyprus when dd1 was 4 mths old and loved it there too. There was an excellent toddlers, and baby group and my dd1 adjusted to the heat much better than both her parents did (was Aug when we got there and heat was ridiculous). We loved our time there and would go back. It would be a different tour with older children. We loved it though. Great sense of community etc. Lots for the children to do and the most child friendly country for going out etc. We had dd2 out there. HTH.

Hello, my DH is Navy. He is currently on Chatham but due to sit his Fleet Board in Sept and be based in Collingwood, YAY!

We have 6 children, id twins 8, dd 6, ds 4, ds 2 and 3 week baby boy. Living in MQ in Alverstoke, Gosport. Cant wait for him to be back here with us

Just skim read the thread and am so pleased to have others to talk to. Only just finding my feet here, we moved in August last year. found it very hard to adjust, have no family near either.

Am counting myself very lucky though as have just been reading about the long deployments, it is such a miserable time. My Dad was Navy for 25 years so i remember the moves well too.

Skyler - Dishforth is in North Yorkshire about 10 miles away from Harrogate and about 15 miles from York. I think Linton is just down the road. Were going there cos its the nearest REME base to my parents, they live in Hull. I might try and get booked into York then if its good. I really am running out of time now! Do you know if York do epidural and C section etc? I had to have both with the birth of DS1&2.

Hi. Dishforth is a great location then! Harrogate is just lovely and York is fab fab fab. So many lovely places to eat and see etc. And Betty's tearooms. York District was good for me. It is a big hospital and did everything so you would be in good hands I would say. There were three sections and me on my ward. No pressure to leave at any time and help b'feeding etc. Fab church/cafe in York, very child friendly gorgeous homemade food on the pedestrian bit near Specsavers and Game I think. Will think on a bit. Great part of the world to be and I am a real southerner!

I'm SAHM to 3 Boys, married to dh, who I met out in Germany, when he was posted out there, for 11 1/2 years or so. He is still in the regular Army, but is working within TA (in Leuicester)....he is theoretically finished next April, but we are hoping he gets an extention, should know soon.
My dh is Assault Pioneer Seargant and is in the Royal Anglians, Infantry, regiment.
He has just come back from Afghanistan. Bit prematurely, as he was meant to be out there till August, but the TA asked for him back, as he is the only one with the right Qualifications for all their exercises, lol!

MamaD · 20/06/2007 16:07

3andnomore - there is a good chance that I will have heard of your hubby, R Anglian is one of the units I help to administer. Small world!

3andnomore · 20/06/2007 16:31

especially the cyberworld

largeginandtonic · 20/06/2007 16:31

He is! Has done the gruelling Dartmouth stint and doing his ship bit. He is a bit delayed as we had a baby and he broke his foot so they have extended his ship time till September.

They moved me here in August last year, i was in Plymouth. We did have a lovely MQ in Dartmouth but lost it on some daft technicality of him being 'in training' so not eligible for a quarter!!! Despite being in the Navy for 7 years Anyway they gave us one eventually but here as this was his next posting. They then gave him a Plymouth based ship I give up.....

Lovely here though, right on the beach and lots of play space for the kids.

I saw the Crapstone quarters mentioned earlier they are soooo lovely. I have a friend in the commanders quarter in the very corner. It has a field like garden and is just FAB! If anyone manages to get one ask for the corner plot

Must do tea now, baby will start again soon.

I did go back to Plymouth to have him. Very glad i did too, he was 12 days late in the end!! DH was working in Drake as he couldnt go on the ship due to his broken foot. It was fab, he was home at lunchtime most days.

He went back to work on Monday but should be back at the weekend. He goes to Holland over our 1st wedding anniversary and ds#3 birthday, bloody typical! Summer leave coincides with the kids summer hols though so hooray!

A meetup would be fab, i could do with a trip out and really need to make some friends
