It seems i'm the first. So this is me...

I'm 26 and have 3 girls aged 5, nearly 4 and nearly 1.

DH is in the navy and we are currently living on a married patch in redruth, cornwall. Though not for much longer. Due to the serious mining issues on the estate we are having to look for SSAFA (private rented in Redruth.

DH works on the Merlin's (helicopters) at culdrose and is an LAET.

Anybody else out there?

Hello All Better point out Hubby coming back from Sierra Leone every 3 months for two weeks and I will see him more often than I did at our last posting.

jocoxy · 26/06/2007 18:39

Hello Mylastrolo!! Normal people will never get what we have to put up with. My Sister in Law says "OOh I couldnt do what you do it must be so hard" but do they come and see me or check im ok ? NO!! Thank God we managed to get a house near my Mum. At least your Husband didn't do what mine did when he was in Iraq for our Anniversary. He wanted to send a card so much him and another bloke had a big argument over one at an American Nafi and my Husband ending up giving the other bloke £20 for it. Now eirther my mans a mug or he loves me very much or the other bloke cared more about the money than his wife!! I like to think it was because my Hubby loves me so much!!

kirstygem · 26/06/2007 19:36

Well DD only got me up every 2nd hour last night rather than every hour like the previous night. But I still woke up every hour expecting her to be getting up.. I am a teacher and am definately taking my tiredness out on my pupils
Also will be big fatty by time DH comes back if I keep up this level of chocolate intake!!

Katiekin what is melatonin, can you buy it over counter? have been frantically clock watching to see when can give next next dose of nurofen

saltire · 26/06/2007 20:31

Kirsty gem, how old is your DD? Have you tried Calpol and Nurofen together. You can give them both together as one has paracetamol in the other doesn't. We had to do this with DS2, we were being kept awake night after night (so were the neighbours)with his teething and the doc suggested giving them both. it worked a treat. What we did was we only gave him the 2 together at night, so he wasn't completely doped. It did make a difference.

My parents are 7 hours away as well. They used to be just 2-3 when we lived in Scotland

Scootergrrrl · 26/06/2007 20:33

Kirstygem - we're in Germany and they do some extreme teething gel at the American PX which is about 15pc benzocaine - three times as strong as Bonjela as well as homeopathic teething tablets with cammomile and other stuff in them which worked really well on DD.
CAT me your address and I'll send you some.

McDreamy · 26/06/2007 20:35

Evening all! Sorry to hear about your lack of sleep Kirsty, hope it improves soon.

We're sweltering over here, it's really quite unpleasant now . MIL left today after staying with us for a week.

Counting down until our trip to the UK in about 5 weeks

jocoxy · 26/06/2007 20:52

Wohoo!! Sorry to cut in but my youngest has gone to sleep on his own for the second night in a row!! He still gets up at 5 shouting to come in my bed but hey its a start!! Hope everyones well anyway.

kirstygem · 26/06/2007 21:00

Scootergrrl have CATed you my address, thanks for your kind offer.
DD is 13 months. Didnt know could give her Calpol and nurofen, definately give that a go tonight. Do you have to wait 3 hours between a double dose? Sorry for being a thicko!!
Just need to get to Thursday and then my mum and sister here for 4 days - oh to hear Scottish voices in my house, hurray!!

Hello Kirstygirl where are you from in Scotland. We have left a posting at Raf Leuchars near St Andrews in Feb.

jocoxy · 26/06/2007 21:07

Duh!! Kirstygem sorry got your username wrong!!!!!

kirstygem · 26/06/2007 21:24

We from Dumfries. Been posted in NIreland, Hampshire and now Norfolk. All too far from home for me

jocoxy · 26/06/2007 21:26

We went from Kent up to North Yorkshire then up again to Scotland. As Hubby away could choose where I wanted to go so came home to Kent again.

saltire · 26/06/2007 22:32

kirstygem,I'm orignally from near Dumfries. They had bad weather for their Gala ( I know it's not a gala, but couldn't spell it!)

jcscot · 27/06/2007 08:18

More Scots - hooray!

We're back in Scotland after seven years of moving around down south and it's lovely to hear Scottish voices again! We've (finally) bought our own place just up the road from my parents, which is great for our wee boy as he sees his grandparents most days. My husband finishes in his current post in August and then moves across to Edinburgh for two years which is commutable (just!) from where we live currently. After that, I suppose we'll face the joys of weekly commuting.

Has anyone else done that? If so, how did it work out?

tinytotmummy · 27/06/2007 10:04

We did weekly commuting for about a year and it didn't suit us. DH didn't like all the driving - 4.5 hours each way on Friday and again on the Sunday, and felt that it impacted too much on his weekend at home as by saturday night he would start to dread going back again, thus making him incredibly moody!

However, he did start doing shifts of week on, week off after and still did the commute, but we all found that much easier to cope with.

I suppose the distance was a major impact for us, if it had been half the journey time it might have been easier, and he may have been able to get home more often.

kirstygem · 27/06/2007 14:19

saltire, where exactly are you from?
I really wish my parents saw more of my DD as she their 1st grandchild and my poor mum crys her eyes out whenever we leave from a visit. She coming tomorrow though

saltire · 27/06/2007 14:58

kirstygem, I don't want to say exactly where I come from - in case anyone recognises me. It's in the east of the region, comes under the Annandale and Eskdale banner, not Gretna or Annan. i'm sure you'll guess.

kirstygem · 27/06/2007 15:04

Very mysterious Saltire. I actually come from just outside Lockerbie so not sure if that where you mean but it doesnt matter anyway, nice to have fellow Scots to chat with.

saltire · 27/06/2007 15:05

Well not Lockerbie, but it does begin with L. I shall delete this message once you get it!
