Dolcelatte

Blue Stilton
Buffalo Mozzarella

Mmmm. On posh crackers

Threelittleducks · 01/03/2010 11:28

This a baaaad thing for me to do - I am trying to cut down on the cheese (what, I'm a vegetarian! I need my protein!)

  1. Orkney Cheddar
  2. Wensleydale
  3. Lockerbie Cheddar
  4. P. O. O Feta
  5. Jarlsberg

Mmmmm.....I'm off for a cheese chunk right now.

bowbluebell · 01/03/2010 12:04

Mmmmm, cheese! I'm not patriotic about many things but I like a spot of English cheese....

  1. Brock Blue (sublime goat's milk farmhouse blue from Lancashire)
  2. Norfolk Dapple (and luckily, it's made near us!)
  3. Cashel Blue
  4. Tomme de Savoie (FIL has still not forgiven us for the aroma that still pervades his chalet!)
  5. Stinking Bishop (for when Tomme's a bit tame!)

Look's like it's nearly lunchtime....

Whoamireally · 01/03/2010 12:09

OK I have been inspired by this thread to try new cheese.

Today's cheese is... tetilla. (It was reduced in Waitrose so thought I'd give it a go).

Will report back.

Blu · 01/03/2010 12:13

Vignotte
Wensleydale
Reblochon
Caerphilly
Brie

lucykate · 01/03/2010 12:21

jarlsberg
very strong mature cheddar
blacksticks blue
halloumi
parmesan

Whoamireally · 01/03/2010 15:15

Tetilla very good - a bit like brie only firmer and creamier...might start a 'what cheese have you tried today thread

MrCSWS · 01/03/2010 15:40

Chaource
Comte
Roquefort
Manchego
Creamy Lancashire (on toast)

also

Beaufort
Pie d'angloys
Port Salut

in fact all at once would be great - the more the merrier

always like on Nairn Oatcakes

Fanfare · 01/03/2010 15:40

OMG Whoamireally, they do tetilla in Waitrose?? I've never been able to find it in this country, always resorted to bringing horrendously heavy whole ones back from Galicia. Thanks for the tip, that's made my day!

Whoamireally · 01/03/2010 19:30

Fanfare Yes, it was the Kenilworth Waitrose - will def be buying it again, it was gorgeous and even my 8 month old liked it Happy cheese hunting!

pixierara · 01/03/2010 19:32

Has anyone mentioned Vacherin (can only be bought around Christmas as it spends the rest of the year maturing). It is utterly gorgeous but very stinky and is amazing with quince!

Midge25 · 01/03/2010 19:38

OMG this is the best thread ever. But how to choose?

  1. Blue blue blue stinky runny yummy stuff. Stilton/Roquefort that's been left out for a good while
  2. Stilton/apricot
  3. Wensleydale/cranberries
  4. Goaty goodness...esp. that one rolled in ash
  5. Manchego

But so many to choose from! Can't beat mature cheddar...and that Creme de St Agur dip stuff which is so good it is not even funny....

PavlovtheCat · 01/03/2010 20:38

St Agur (prefer non dippy/creamy, but if that is all that is on offer, it will win)

Followed closely by a good Gorgonzola or dolcellate left out for a while.

Camembert, stuffed with cloves of garlic and shoved in the oven for a while.

Stilton, with grapes.

Plastic cheese - can't beat a nice slice of plastic cheese on a burger. Can't be anything else imo

(not a huge fan at all of cheddar unless it is on toast, but even then blue cheese wins hands down).

willybreeder · 01/03/2010 21:21

DH and i love cheese so much we had a cheese wedding cake with layers of the stuff! Started with a huge round slab of brie and worked it's way up to something blue. My friend even put one of those china Mr & Mrs on the top and we had grapes round the base.
Yum!

Mytholmroyd · 01/03/2010 22:02

Jarlsberg
Cornish Cruncher from M&S (Vintage cheddar with salt crystals - love it!)
Roquefort (with pears and walnuts)
Old Amsterdam (vintage Gouda)
Beaufort (I can only get it from my local deli Cherwicz but its gooood)

But couldnt do without parmesan I guess. Love cheese, cheese on toast, cauliflower cheese, cheese and wine, cheesecake....

happystressedmum · 02/03/2010 13:52

I agree with some of you - 5 is just not enough. I love cheese but you really have to have a glass of wine to accompany!
